The Unknown Impact of Cell Phones Cell phones have changed the way we go about life in many ways. They change the way we interact with people in our everyday life. They hinder our physical aspect of life without us even knowing. One of the biggest issues I see is the changes it creates in our classrooms from an educational standpoint. Cell phones have been negatively impacting our lives in some very important ways. A huge area of impact that cell phones causes is that they change the way that we interact with people. My dad used to tell me how when he was a kid he had to ride his bike to his buddy’s houses to see what they were doing that day. Now all a person has to do is text them a simple “what’s up” to see what they are doing and …show more content…
Cell phones are harming education and causing grades to be lower than what they could be. The other day I got out of class early in the business building, as I usually do. I was walking down the hallway, back to my dorm, as I walked across a classroom that I happened to look inside. As the professor was in the front of the classroom giving his lesson for that day, I noticed that about fifteen of twenty students had their phones out not paying one little ounce of attention to the professor. I do not know about you, but I can not read a status on Facebook and retain the information that my professor is giving me, but that is just me. We have been allowing cell phones to impact our lives in negative ways. Our everyday life changes every day because of these cell phones and how we use them. I have noticed in everyone’s life, including mine, that it is hindering us socially and physically. My biggest concern is the negative impact it is having on our education and students allowing them to get in the way of their education. We need to get a hold on these cell phones before it gets any more out of hand, but I think it is too
The cell phone is an evil that is blocking the young adult from absorbing any information. The newer the cell phone, the more of a consumerist attitude the student will have. If college’s penalized students for using cell phones in class, like they are supposed to, then maybe it will crack the student and allow them to see what they are missing. Trying to find a solution to the consumerist student problem is very complex, but it does focus on the lack of students paying attention.
Do you think cell phones are a distraction to kids and some adults? Well imagine if kids were allowed to use their cell phones during class. It would affect their education and get them off task with the internet to explore in. Then next thing you know their grades are dropping and then the phone is taking over your life at home and school. Sometimes not all the right answers are on the internet too, like Wikipedia, which people can edit the page and put whatever they would like to say. Plus cheating could be way easier and kids would take advantage of it. They could just text their friend in the same class and ask for what answers they got.
However, they could also save your life. Today, cellphones make it a lot easier to get help. If you are in trouble and need help all you have to do is say “Siri, call 911” on your cell phone. Instead of going to the police office after an incident you can report it while or even before it happens for immediate help. It wasn’t always that easy though. We used to not be able to get help before cell phones. “We had to literally call for help from our own voices instead of a cellphone” said marc Bodnick from /www.quora.edu/ they can be easily used for natural disasters, being attacked, or health emergencies as
Cell Phones have many advantages two of them being they are wireless and easy way to get a hold of family when needed. There are also disadvantages to them. Things such as they are a leading cause cancer because they
Cell phones have made a big impact on the world, for example, people are using them daily, and they have influenced science, politics, and many more fields.
The cell phone is a great thing. Did you know that about 90% of the population owns a cell phone(Madrigal, Alexis C)? Our society is affected greatly by the use of cellphones in such ways as; sleep deprivation, communication, and Distraction. There are many things that the cell phone is good for but there are just as many negatives that come from them, if not there are more. The number of people who own cell phones has gone up about 27% since year 2004(Madrigal, Alexis C).
Ever since I have been in high school, increasing amounts of people have acquired cell phones. They are causing more disturbances in school because of the cellular devices. Students are using them to harass other individuals. There should be a phone provided for students to make important calls. And lastly, cell phones have even opened new doors for cheaters. There’s really no good reason for a student to use their cell phone during school hours.
To begin with, cell phones are problematic in classrooms because they become distractions to both the students using the phone and to those that are trying to learn. In either case, they will both miss out on the opportunity to learn. According to M. Beth Humble-Thaden, “Cell phones ringing during a class time present unwanted distractions and, for some students, sending or receiving text messages can lead to cheating” (10). The usage of cell phones will also cause students to go off task and not give their school assignment the attention that it deserves,
In a study publish by the Marion Institute; Dr. Mercola states, “ More people in today’s world have cell phones than they do toilets. Cell Phones and other technologies have completely taken dominance in today’s world (Falk, 2013). Likewise, in today’s society it is undeniably rare to find a classroom that has distanced itself completely from technology. Today’s classrooms are filled with student taking notes on laptops and tablets, PowerPoint presentations, and the oh-so-sneaky students who seem to think that no one is noticing them as they use their cell phone. The overwhelming question is, is this helpful or harmful? There seems to be many distinct assumptions and opinions on this topic. Some are completely for the integration of cell phones
Students constantly use their phones or devices in school and as a student, I do it myself, but some students use their phones as curricular devices. NEA Today, reported “in 2016 that 70 percent of districts across the country that had once banned student phones reversed themselves ad now allow them.” Students always have a way to get away from learning and always have something to distract themselves from the teacher or what is being taught. There is always a mental or physical block of learning and phones can make that more challenging towards the teacher, but if rules are put in place and schools can adapt to the ways that phones can and will be used. Phones should be allowed in schools because they can and are used in much more ways than to use snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, or games. The schools need to learn that phones will always be used and rules should be set in place to make and problem better than they already are. Students can always find their way around the rules but if students and staff cooperated, students might be able to learn more and teachers won’t need a challenge to get the students attention and have them focus on the lesson, when it could all be avoided and set rules and boundaries to make the whole problem better and find a
Have you ever heard of the gruesome Columbine High School massacre? This incident occurred on April 20th 1999 and involved two students embarking on a shooting rampage, killing twelve students, a teacher and wounding twenty three others. Unfortunately during this incident, the school's most easily accessible phone was on the other side of the school in the library. Perhaps some of these lives could have been saved if the students in this class had cell phones that they could've used to contact the authorities more quickly. The issue we are addressing today is the use of cellular devices in educational facilities. I believe that cell phone use is of extreme convenience, and has academically beneficial aspects, among it's so called "faults".
Furthermore, as more people get cell phones and spend more time using them, the number of injuries will increase. Not to mention, when people are on their cell phones the number of times a participant looks right or left decreases by twenty percent and the risk of getting hit increases to forty-three percent (Lazaros). Granted, people are not only talking and texting while walking, but also being perturbed by social media and playing games, too. Moreover, cell phones are distracting to kids’ education. Of course, students in school are distracted in class when they send and receive text messages. Additionally, cell phone use in class can lead to difficulty in school and a decline in grades ("The Cell Phone Zone"). The question still remains rather or not devices should be allowed in school or not. Additionally, text messaging can be used to cheat. Students who are texting are not able to pay attention in class and can disrupt everyone. Although cell phones are very convenient and a
Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology.
Cell phones have created one of the biggest social changes in human history. We as people have gone from speaking face to face, to call each other on the phone occasionally, to today where we all carry a computer in our pockets that can do anything you want it to. We as people have gone from being social with one another to posting things on social media. It’s crazy to think that just 25 years ago you couldn’t communicate with someone else across town without being at home using the telephone. Cell phones have changed us socially in a drastic way. It has changed the way we communicate with one another, it has changed how we interact with others, and it has changed the way we act in public places and social gatherings.
Finally, cellular phones have also affected our lives and the media. What would the world do without cellular phones? The real question is what would I do without my cell phone? People are using these devices to talk all day without actually saying a single word. Isn't that just amazing? You can do more with a phone now than ever before. You can lie in bed all day and accomplish as much stuff with just your phone as if you went into your office and used your computer.
