In this paper, I will be primarily focusing on the importance of feedback in learning. Practise is important to achieve goals but it cannot act alone, in order for a student to accomplish his/her goals he/she needs to practise; while practising it is important to receive feedback. By the end of this paper, I will try to prove why “Feedback is so important in learning”? According to University of Reading (2012), “Feedback can improve a student's confidence, self-awareness and enthusiasm for learning.” Feedback is important because it helps student understand their progress whilst achieving goals. Goal can be anything for instance to pass with good grades, to learn and understand the topic etc. Feedback helps to identify your strengths and weaknesses. For example, imagine yourself learning to play basketball, you have a coach who is guiding you and providing constant feedback on your progress versus you teaching yourself; big difference in terms of monitoring and feedback isn't it? The author describes feedback as a gift and if we view it that way it would change our mindsets when receiving it. In conclusion I feel that using effective assessment methods throughout any course allows tutors to give feedback at the right time to allow the correct progress for the learners to achieve. I have experienced feedback many times as coach and more recently as a teacher and feel it has only helped me to improve and to keep wanting to improve so I can inspire others to achieve.

Cells have evolved to use feedback inhibition to regulate enzyme activity in metabolism, by using the products of the enzymatic reactions to inhibit further enzyme activity. Metabolic reactions, such as anabolic and catabolic processes, must proceed according to the demands of the cell. In order to maintain chemical equilibrium and meet the needs of the cell, some metabolic products inhibit the enzymes in the chemical pathway while some reactants activate them.
One prime example of a dangerous positive feedback loop is melting artic ice. Before global warming the sun would hit the ice and most of the heat would be bounced back into space rather than being artic ice is starting to melt. When this happens more land is uncovered and the ice becomes water. Both land and water absorb the suns energy which amplifies the issue of global warming. Another great example of a positive feedback loop is our ocean’s warming. With our ocean waters warming it releases methane (fish create it in their guts and plants produce it) which is a greenhouse gas. With this excess methane in the atmosphere it is causing earth to warm. Both of these feedback loops are a vicious nature cycle that is very hard if not near impossible to reverse.
From how I behave to my studying practices, the behaviors and the information I have learned from this class I will take with me into my everyday life – positive or negative. I try to get my work done on time and some lessons are easy for me. I appreciate having teachers that offer extra credit for those that complete their work early and could become bored. Making sure students stay motivated is something that all teachers should be aware of. The points mentioned in chapter nine are very interesting, especially in regard to what statements can be used to motivate students. Students that receive hollow feedback such as “excellent”, have no encouragement to improve. In one of my classes at MSU the teacher would praise students for speaking out even though their answers were incorrect. I did not like this and I think that teachers should provide meaningful feedback that encourages students to keep learning. Teachers should always encourage students that there is more they can do. In this paper I will be discussing the information I have learned from the article “From Positive Reinforcement to Positive Behaviors”, by Ellen A. Sigler and Shirley Aamidor. The authors stress the importance of positive reinforcement. The belief is that teachers and adults should be rewarding appropriate behaviors and ignoring the inappropriate ones. The authors’ beliefs are expressed by answering the following questions: Why use positive reinforcement?, Are we judging children’s behaviors?, Why do children behave in a certain way?, Do we teach children what to feel?, Does positive reinforcement really work?, and How does positive reinforcement work?. The following work is a summary of "Positive Reinforcement to Positive Behaviors" with my thoughts and reflection of the work in the end.
The positive feedback provided me with things my respondents believe I should continue doing. Some respondents noted that I am confident and motivated. The results also showed that my respondents think I am efficient. Another response was that I adapt to change well. Other words like cheerful, encouraging and fun to be around were some of the positive responses received. Great communication is also something noted that I should continue to do. My responses showed that I am a hard worker. According to the respondents of the survey, I am a good listener and very supportive of others. These responses helped to boost my confidence because they helped me to know that there are things that I am good at and things that I should continue doing. It is also nice to known that people notice little things about you that are positive.
It is a teacher’s responsibility to properly prepare and educate their students. In some cases this can prove to be difficult for an educator. As a student, you may find that your teacher may not be giving you enough attention or specific one-on-one time. This is where student grading could come in handy. Many educators might fear negative feedback because they often do the best that they can with the abundance of responsibilities they already have; but others strongly believe that teachers shouldn’t be above criticism, and should ask their students for this constructive feedback on their performance. This could help improve the nation’s educational system if conducted properly. It would also help the students and the teachers to sort out their true priorities in the classroom. The importance of constructive feedback allows for many positive opportunities. One important element is that feedback provides a foundation for positive student and teacher relationships. By providing appropriate feedback, the students understand the teacher is genuinely concerned about them and their education. This component also enhances a student’s self-efficacy and provides an avenue for motivation.
We need to continuously assess and evaluate our students so we can set appropriate goals for each student and individual instructions. Each child learns different, so as a teacher we need to have different styles of teaching for positive reinforcement.
