The easiest part of working on a team was the teamwork. The phrase “two heads are better than one,” played a key role all throughout this project. Having five minds set on a specific goal, you have more access to ideas. Looking at everyone’s perspectives can expand the likelihood of quality innovation. The ability to communicate is a very important skill and a vital part of the job. Nurses speak to people of varying educational, cultural and social backgrounds and must do so in an effective, caring and professional manner. Communication in the nursing profession is not that simple. The possibility of sending or receiving incorrect messages frequently exists. It is essential that we know the key components of the communication process; a sender, a receiver, and a message. An example would be, when an elderly patient presents to the emergency room with confusion, the health care team will do what is necessary to diagnosis this patient. The Certified Nurse Assistant may take the patients vital signs, the Registered Nurse will obtain the urine specimen to assess for a urinary tract infection (UTI), and the physician will determine if it is an UTI, what antibiotic, and treatment will be needed.
Nurses today need to have excellent communication skills. Receiving information from patients is the most important aspect of nursing. If nurses are unable to communicate with their patient then they would not be able to have a relationship with them. Communication is where two or more people interact with each other, by using sounds and words, this is verbal communication. Some individuals have different behaviors where they try to express themselves to others without using spoken words, this is non verbal communication.
