3.3 Public transport In terms of low-carbon transport system, the development of public transport, encourage walking, cycling, and other low-carbon travel mode is an important alternative way to promote the city's carbon emissions. To provide residents a convenient and comfortable way to travel is also planner and policy makers’ duties. In addition to expanding public transport network, planning by promotes the capacity and quality of public transport services and other measures to enhance the attractiveness of public transport, thereby reducing carbon emissions by transportation sector and ultimately achieve the goal of energy efficiency. 3.3.1 Optimize road network Different forms of road network determines the development pattern of the …show more content…
Appropriate infrastructure forms an important part of the customer experience and helps to make public transport a competitive, viable alternative to private vehicle travel. In order to achieve this, high- quality infrastructure needs to be matched with efficient and reliable services. Therefore, distribution of quality infrastructure is a key element of the public transport system. The purpose of the distribution of transportation infrastructure is to ensure that high standard of infrastructures, such as transit hubs, road intersections, stations and associated road isolation facilities and parking facilities, are planned and delivered to meet the needs of public transport system. Further promote the integration of public infrastructure development, and guide urban functional arrangement. While traffic should contain more detailed design, such as the size of the vehicle lanes, traffic intersections, as well as on the reserved space for walking and cycling, to develop a high quality and frequent public and active transport network linked to regional activity centers and to support walking, cycling and public transport use with new infrastructure and improved …show more content…
Accordingly policymakers should investigate the basic volume of passengers to ensure a sufficient width sidewalk in order to support passengers’ movement and safety. Access to the public network It is essential to provide convenient access to public transport. To assist this, public transport infrastructures prioritize passengers access to stops and stations in order of walking, cycling, transferring from other public transport service. Crime prevention through environmental design Passenger safety is fundamental to the successful use of public transport infrastructure and service. A passenger should feel safe using public transport at any time of the day at any location. Therefore, a presence of surveillance mechanisms and creation of defensible spaces, for example, effective public lighting, enhance visibility, legible defined space and effective signage, should be incorporated when planning public transportation infrastructure. Signage Well placed signage help to ensure easy access for passengers. Additionally, signage must be easily interpreted as well. Disability access
...ay of laws and reasonable policy. Dr. Williams is obviously an individual of knowledge and pride, however, his education may not provide the key his views of positive policy. Instead of viewing the governments? attempt at safety as a negative authority, he should reflect on the physical benefits instead of the intangible conflicts. Therefore, the ?Click It or Ticket? article described one way of viewing a current law of governing safety. Dr. Williams clearly disagrees, but an audience should generally view the attempt at safety as the proper acts of government as opposed to the negative. Safety is a necessity for a civil society, and click it or ticket laws allow for a safer than nothing transportation situation. This should be appreciated and will eventually quiet all critics by accurate statistics of saved lives while maintaining a reasonable spending platform.
By the 1900’s some of the first graphics appeared for transportation involving posters and signwriting, for instance, the London Underground. At the start, many people found these difficult to understand and follow but did develop around 1915. 1916 saw the beginning of the iconic typeface, which could be seen throughout many station signs, directions, posters and various information. The typeface was created by Edward Johnston and is used throughout all of the Undergrounds property and publicity. The poster was one of the main advertisement methods of the underground and could be recognised by the typeface. Many posters in the early era of the Underground showed people being happy and busy a great example is the poster ‘Brightest London’, but this design will be discussed more clearly later. Frank Pick was a major contributor to the design and industries association. However, forty says His plan was to bring together people to help create a coordinated environment and efficient system, which required help from others. Picks intentions were ‘to entice the prospective traveller indirectly’ (Green 1990 p.10). Meaning his goal was to promote the underground by using the imagery of theatre, concerts, etc. Posters, map design and signs were useful towards his completion of the Underground. His intentions were to make the designs for the London Underground uplifting especially in

Specific Purpose Statement: To inform my audience how to insure their safety, and the safety of others, while on the road
One is the cost of the project. The office might consider the money could be used towards other upgrades such as the playgrounds, the pool, or other necessities. Another is the construction. The office might not want to have to block traffic when residents are trying to leave or come home. Furthermore, will the residents and others actually use the crosswalks when finished? However, the money should be spent on crosswalks because of a safety issue. Spending the money on the crosswalks can end up saving residents’ and others’ lives preventing further tragedies from occurring. As far as the construction, whomever is putting up the crosswalks can split the road up into different sections to keep the traffic flow. A detour could also be created having drivers go around the opposite way to their house or wherever they need to go in the neighborhood. The neighborhood office should send out a letter to all residents addressing the crosswalks are for their safety and should be used at all times. As for all non-residents to help them understand the importance of using the crosswalk, put a banner at the entrance stating a certain date all crosswalks will be utilized when crossing the
The positive effects of bike sharing is mostly focused on environmental sustainability and the health benefits that are experienced by the users. As the main aim of this bike sharing system it is able to help in “greening” the city, ideally with more bikes it will lower the purchase rate of cars, leading to the reduction of greenhouse gases and helping out with goal warning and improvements in the air quality of high population cities. Bike sharing reduces the dependency on fossil fuels, carbon emissions and other harmful pollutants. Walking and biking does not produce any carbon emissions, when the metro, public bus and private cars produce more than 0.2 pounds of carbon emissions.
Transport is a political factor as it is controlled and affected by legislation. This will impact on the staff and opponents (travelling to the stadium) as the accessibility of transport will impact on travelling times – both positively (may avoid traffic on a train e.g.) and negatively (trains, buses etc. may be cancelled or delayed). The price of transportation will also affect the mode of transport that these groups of people may use. Similarly, price and accessibility of transport will affect the consumers also. The view that consumers hold on transport, therefore, is likely to impact on the business i.e. effort to travel, money to travel etc. as this will influence how often they will visit, what they will spend during their visit etc. According to (Mintel 2011,) the amount of people using train as a mode of transport is on the rise, mea...
Traffic engineers and planners need information about traffic. They need information to design and manage road and traffic system. They use the information for planning and designing traffic facilities, selecting geometric standards, economic analysis and determination of priorities. They use this to justify warrant of traffic control devices such as signs, traffic signals, pavement markings, school and pedestrian crossings. The also use this information to study the effectiveness of introduced schemes, diagnosing given situations and finding appropriate solutions, forecasting the effects of projected strategies, calibrating and validating traffic models.
For formulating a more efficient transport pattern, there are some specific strategies. Firstly, government can encourage people to pay more attention to public transit. The actual data about transit use from most cities indicates that transit use is growing in many cities, in addition, some developed cities have been reducing their car use and pay more attention to the public transport (Newman, 1999). Encouraging urban citizens use more public transit is effective in reducing the quantity of private cars. It is generally known that private cars have brought great pressure on urban traffic. Secondly, government can restrict cars based on the “odd-and-even l...
Most of cities that people live are sequentially growing, daily routine of many people are also adapted for surrounding in the present. A lot of people have to spend most of their time with travelling though long distances to get from one place to another for connecting their businesses or other purposes by transportation. Most people use public transportation such as BTS and MRT to go each places while many people are using their own cars to travel. Thereby, both transportations have the same destination that is taking and moving people. People can choose vehicles from alter reasons depend on how people are responded to their needs by public transportation and private car that are different in convenience of travelling, expenditure of money and security of travel.
As the roads are very busy nowadays, the public transportation disciplines are safety. Waiting at a bus can be a little risky and unsafe because students can be in a vulnerable location. Some of the bus stops are hidden, so not many college students are going to be around that area. This is a safety concern because students must know what is happening around their surroundings. A good suggestion of safety always brings a cell phone or a partner, especially taking the bus at night time. Moreover, buses are always crowded on a regular daily basic, and most of the time students might have to put up with being very close to abnormal
Most people take the urban public transportation system for granted. It is used in every aspect of our daily lives: work, education, medical necessities, recreation, etc. It is also important for the transportation of goods and services, which aids the growth and maintenance of our economy. Urban public transportation is the critical component of our quality of life and economic stability. The MBTA, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, is Boston and Eastern Massachusetts’s major transportation service.
We all use vehicles for transportation. People usually go to their desired destination either by driving their own cars or traveling in public transportation. Actually, it might be tough to choose that which one is the best selection for people to travel. Many people choose one of them according to their comfort while traveling and both of them have advantages and disadvantages in different conditions. Public transportation and driving own car both shares differences and similarities in many aspects, such as facility, cost, and comfort as well as traffic jam and accident occurrence.
The development of every nation hinges on the effectiveness of their transportation systems. Movement of goods, services and people to and from locations is made possible by transportation systems. The importance of effective transportation systems cannot be over-emphasized. Many countries face transportation problems and my country Ghana is no exception. A trip of about 30 minutes usually takes about an hour or more due to traffic jams. This is seriously impacting productivity and has become a topical issue in the country. The situation is the same in Uganda where I currently work. To this end, Transportation Engineers are needed to design roads/ highways that will stand the test of time, plan effective traffic management systems to reduce
Rail transportation is a transportation in which for movement of people and goods which from one location to another destination. Rail had been takes the important role in physical and economic development of town and cities in a country and it was developed over the world. Rail transport can be made a property value in a country increase and it must be needs improvement in transportation network expanding (Goldberg, 1970). Thus, the railway services need to be done with continuous improvement and it is important to the rail passengers of the range and quality of facilities and service on stations and trains (Gleave, S. D., 2000). The future development to a public transportation is a key to affect
