Figuring out questions to ask my teacher in the part II teacher interview assignment was a lot easier than the part one because this time we were interviewing a veteran who has had the experienced and been through it all. Every question I asked this teacher he gave me clear and well thought answers on what stuff he did throughout his career. This man I had interviewed was a big time veteran at my former high school Lutheran. He was one of my favorite teachers out of my whole high school career and his name is Neil Meyer. Mr. Meyer is a history teacher and he also teaches other subjects like Math and English. However, he has been teaching for over 50 years and does not plan on retiring anytime soon. We were talking for hours about mine and his social life, but when I bring up the questions about my assignment for the teacher interview he was not pleased by it or interested at first. The reason for that was because he did not want anyone knowing his business of teaching or anything that was dealt with his career. But, when i told him it was for me and how it will benefit my dream on becoming a teacher he automatically changed. One of the first questions I asked was, “How is your teaching lessons taught weekly and are your kids enjoying and learning your old school teachings”? He responded saying, “Oh they better love my old school lessons, and also kids will learn anything it 's based on your teaching methods and how much time and effort you put in with a student, because in the end if they understand your lesson they will eventually start to enjoy you and your class”. The second question i asked him was how did you deal with the misbehaved students that never followed your direction? He said, “Just give them detention until they start behaving right or take their lunch privileges away”. My third question I asked him was, “What were your main goals every year from start of your class, what did you want to accomplish?” He said to me, “I want to understand each student 's goals for their future and to figure out who is who and what things might I do to help these student
I’m interested in the teacher cadet program because I feel as if this is one way that I can get some experience in the field of work that I would hope to someday work in and that it will help me know for sure that this is what I want to do. I made up my mind at the age of five that I wanted to be a teacher and for as long as I can remember,that’s what I’ve wanted to do. I love helping people, whether it’s showing them how to do a math problem, or teaching them to tie their shoes. Whenever I was a younger, my favorite thing to do was to line up all of my babydolls and stuffed animals, I even had a whiteboard hanging in my room so that I could write on it and “teach” them things from the old textbooks my 1st grade teacher gave me. I loved being able to “teach” my bear and show him how to do math problems.
When I walked into the school, I was greeted by the receptionist who kindly showed me where to sign in and then directed me to the teacher I would be observing for the day. The staff was dressed very appropriate for the day and on Friday they were able to wear pink because it was October. Although I did not see much interaction with factuality with each other, I was able to witness when the teachers of a certain grade would come to pick up their students. I saw how the teachers interacted with Mrs. Lee and they were very respectful. The student’s behavior varied from class to class. Most of the classes were well behaved with only a few students causing disruption. Mrs. Lee had warned me that the kindergarten class is normally noisier than other classes, but to her surprise the students were very quiet and did their work independently with no interruptions. Mrs. Lee did a wonderful job at keeping the students disciplined within the classroom. She would give positive re-enforcement and correct students when they would do something incorrectly. She worked really well with the students and they students responded in a respectful manner to Mrs.
In this interview I conducted with my host teacher at Benton STEM Elementary, I talked about the various ways that she explores strategies inside her classroom for how students are provided access to mathematical learning experiences. My host teacher has been teaching elementary education for eleven years now and is currently teaching 2nd grade. Talking with her about the various methods that she uses in the classroom really informed me of how I want to teach as a future educator. When conducting the interview, we talked from the differentiation practices that she uses in her classroom when teaching mathematics. I will be connecting this interview to chapter 5 by Jo Boaler that I read on tracking in the mainstream classroom and how students mathematical abilities are affected by this.
I sat with her every other day for the first four months of the past school year, and gave her specific expectations and examples to ensure extreme clarity. This teacher became one of our most requested staff members this year, due to her successful implementation and the step-by-step planning of the newly adopted Common Core State Standards. She truly respected the time that I took to work along her side, even though I hadn’t taught Language Arts or History at the Middle School level. The wealth of instructional strategies that I provided, alongside her content knowledge served her Steadiness Personality and Behavior style that is motivated by cooperation and sincere appreciation.
It’s just like a normal day, but he then calls me to his desk with a previous work sheet in his hand with why written all over it. How does he have this why does he have this. He then asks me what this means, I hate being put on the spot so I just shrug hoping he will just ignore this. With a new teacher i want to have a good first impression so when i ignore him when he tells me to read he won’t get suspicious at first. The worst thing I could imagine happens he says since this happened he wants me to write a paragraph about myself I can’t write either.
Correcting this issue will be difficult, but possible. Throughout high school I did not have the best values that I have today. I did what other kids thought was cool like any other high school student trying to fit into a new place. In the future, I plan on pursuing a career in education. I plan on demonstrating the values of equality very thoroughly. Making a safe and pleasant environment is what I am hoping to accomplish. A teacher can impact a student’s life heavily. For example, my sophomore year theology teacher Mr. Finnochio, was a man of integrity. I never met a nicer, more thoughtful person in my life. The way he spoke to the class and respected everyone else’s opinion was extraordinary. He never judged or excluded anyone from anything and he impacted my life greatly. Mr. Finnochio is the reason why I would like to fulfill a career in education. I have experienced it and I know teachers can make a difference in this
For the lead teacher interview assignment, I had the opportunity to sit down with and interview my son’s EC teacher from last year, Mrs. Hamm. Since my son started at the school last year, Mrs. Hamm has helped him in so many different ways. Mrs. Hamm has been teaching for over 20 years from her home state of Pennsylvania and more currently at Mount Energy Elementary School in Creedmoor, NC. Mrs. Hamm has been teaching at Mount Energy Elementary School in Creedmoor, NC for the last 12 years and recently awarded “Teacher of the Year”. Mrs. Hamm, up until this school year, was the main EC teacher for all grades Kindergarten through fifth grade at Mount Energy Elementary School. As of the present school year, the school district made the determination that she was over the acceptable number of students. As a result, they decided to hire an additional EC teacher and assistant to teach grades 3-5th and Mrs. Hamm would teach grades K-2. Mrs. Hamm was the teacher of 18 students until this decision was made, now with grades K-2, she has 9 students in her class.
As an education major at State College, I’ve decided to become a teacher for several reasons. As I progressed through elementary, middle, and high school, many of my teachers were great role models for me. This has inspired me to become a role model for someone in the near future. My love for science and math has also influenced my desire to teach and make a difference in a child’s life. I want to teach students the subjects that I love so much. I want the feeling that I helped a child accomplish or learn something they couldn’t understand. One of the main reasons I want to become an educator is because I feel education has really lost teachers who truly love teaching and those who truly love teaching and those who have the desire to make a difference. I feel I can really help make a difference in the education world and bring back the love to teach.
Teacher Interview summary: I had the pleasure of interviewing the 3rd grade social studies teacher Mr. Columbie. As I observed Mr. Columbie on a weekly basis, I would constantly ask him questions on how he taught social studies in his classroom and what strategies he uses. Mr. Columbie informed me that he teaches social studies in his classroom once a week, but now that the students are preparing for the FSA test he has not been teaching social studies. He explained that the schools main focus is that every teacher is teaching and building students math and reading skills. He also explained to me that he can get in trouble with the principle if he were to teach a full social studies lesson in his classroom. He told me that for social studies he is giving his students reading passages and the students are answering comprehension questions at the end of the reading.
Once I took chemistry and the ACT test, I knew I wasn’t necessarily cut out for being any type of doctor, so I decided to consider teaching. There was one teacher that really inspired me to be overall a good person and now that I look back on her teaching styles, I want my future classroom to be just like hers. She made me actually enjoy the subject english. I chose to do my teacher interview in my home town at Richard D. Crosby Elementary School. This K-3rd grade building is very new, it was built in 2010. It has 4 pods, one for each grade level and has a large discovery center in each pod. The school is very colorful, with each pod a different color so the children find it easy to go from area to area. I did my interview with Mrs. Doe, a special education teacher. Her room has a lot of materials for learning and is set up to have several work stations for group activities. Mrs. Doe shares her students with other special education teachers and also has a special education classroom aide. My research question is how does a teacher’s perspective on learning reflect theories and concepts in educational psychology? Mrs. Doe is faced with many challenges in her classroom, overcrowding, multi-cultural differences, learning disabilities, several students with low socioeconomic status and English language learners. There are many challenges for Mrs. Doe to deal with, but she has been teaching for 21 years and has a lot of experience. She started out as a regular classroom teacher, but switched to special education and has done so well that when she asked if she could return to the regular classroom setting, the Superintendent begged her to stay in the special education department because of her success.
Principals have a lot on their job descriptions. One of those tasks principals must do is evaluate teachers. Some principals are good at doing this, while others are not so great because they lack the experience or put it off towards the end of their ever-growing list of tasks they must complete. In order for principals to make this a priority, they must do trainings related to teacher evaluations. I think school district need to do a better job at training school leaders get the proper training and use teacher evaluations to benefit both the teachers and students.

My cooperating teacher has been employed in the field of education for 19 plus years. She has been in her current position as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at the Lighthouse Learning Center for 12 years. Observing a teacher who has so many years of experience in the classroom is very beneficial. She shared with me this week her teaching philosophy that has evolved from her many years in the classroom. The components of her philosophy include a focus on people, strategies, and tools.
The role and responsibilities of a teacher is very complex. Teachers are responsible for making sure their learners acquire the knowledge they need, but also achieve their qualification by the end of the course in a safe learning environment, so they have the skills and experience they need to start their careers. To achieve that goal a teacher must be creative, professional, flexible and knowledgeable enough to deal with daily challenges and find different ways to help their learners needs. Establishing a safe and stimulating environment for learners, creating mutual respect and set goals that stretch and challenge learners of all backgrounds and abilities.
