Based on the Community Development Self-Assessment Tool Based on the Foundations of Practice Core Competencies Component One and Two I have found there are several competencies I do well along with skills do not do well. This assessment is a way to understand what competencies, skills and knowledge I do well and what skills I can work on to become a better community developer. I will discuss a variety of competencies of the assessment and components of them.

I have involved in the planning and implementation of educational programs in a variety of locations throughout Indiana. I have been able to work with community members and strengthen the Park Place neighborhood of Anderson, Indiana through an after school program. I have also implemented a variety of programs through Lake County, Indiana 4-H by working with mini 4-H members through one day educational camps as well as taught showmanship clinics and workshops to 4-Her’s third grade-twelfth grade. I believe these competencies are essential to my work and I will need to work on these to become a better community developer. I will look at how I can gain skills to become more efficient in these competencies.
I do not know how to determine a community’s readiness for a community development program. I think looking at research on how to certain a community’s readiness is essential as well as talking to other community developers and non-profits to see how they have determined their community’s readiness. I think also completing an assessment of different communities would also give me the knowledge of what communities need and how receptive the community is to change.
I do not understand different group purposes nor am I able to design appropriate meeting processes accordingly. I think I need to research and observe how other meetings processes work. I only have experience working with the 4-H meeting process. I have ran meetings using this process but do not have the experience for a less formal process. I believe looking at how others run meetings will be helpful. Overall, each experience will enhance my

At Community Boards, the skills and disciplines that I learned was that I was able to handle clients through phone calls more effectively and in a manner in which I can be neutral. I also learned to be very patient with some clients over the phone, where some phone calls had spent over an hour of the client’s time talking to me about their issues at their residence. I was able to cultivate the skill of being able to use different communication styles in order to deal with certain people and their styles, for often I would have to deal with people that very emotional, because of their situation, whether they be angry, sad, or hopeless, I had to alter my style of communication to accommodate their needs and try to calm them down. According to Allender, Rector, and Warner (2014), public health is a combination of both an art and a science (2014). The mission of public health nursing is to promote health, prevent disease and ultimately prolong life (Allender et al., 2014). In order for this to occur an assessment must take place. An aggregate or community assessment begins with a collection of data. This includes: the community’s health needs, risks, environmental conditions, financial resources through local census data, and a windshield survey (Allender et al., 2014). Through public health nursing, communities can collectively come together to help promote an overall better health standing.

A community can be defined as a group of people, who live, learn, work and play in an environment at a given time. (Yiu, 2012, p.213) There are many factors that may influence the community’s development and health status. These can include resources available, accessibility, transportation, safety, community needs etc… These influences may combine together to form community strengths and as well as community challenges or weaknesses. As a community health care nurse, it is significant for us to assess and identify these strengths and challenges within the community in order for us to intervene and provide the appropriate needed health care services for the community members. This individual scholarly paper will explore and focus on one challenge issue identified from our group community assessment.
My personal objectives for the following time spent with R.K. is to finish up the core competency activities and begin to brainstorm on a community partnering project. On the first visit, October 5, R.K. recommended that we continue to work on the overall core competencies and the activities needed to achieve my desired objectives. My purpose for the selected competencies is to further my knowledge and development

While working or while looking for work there are certain skills sets that are universally important. No matter what job or career path you have chosen these skills make it easier to obtain your goals, whatever they may be.
As someone who has many aspirations in life, I understand having both long and short-term goals is important. One of my long-term professional objectives includes being a community service manager at a health center. With this I am hoping to work with many other healthcare professionals to coordinate health programs and initiatives to improve the health of communities. Having a background in health promotion alongside the leadership and management skills and the real world experience that I intended to gain from this program will give me all I need to make this

In this report, I will reflect on my professional development throughout this module, from when I started in September, to now. According to Beausaert et al. (2011), ‘the art of self-evaluation is an integral element of reflection and involves critical insight into understanding one 's strengths and limitations’. Therefore, my aim is to identify my learning needs and to recognise my personal skills and capabilities, as well as identifying areas of my skill set that need to be refreshed or extended to stand out in the competitive job market. By doing this, I hope to demonstrate knowledge of the skills that I have gained during this module.
Initially a profile of a community will be drawn up using research methods, surveys and statistics that will highlight the issues faced by the community. Then a plan...
The difference between the skills needed on the job and those possessed by applicants, sometimes called the skills-gap, is of real concern to human resource managers and business owners looking to hire competent employees. While employers would prefer to hire people who are trained and ready to go to work, they are usually willing to provide the specialized, job-specific training necessary for those lacking such skills. Most discussions concerning today’s workforce eventually turn to employability skills. Finding workers who have employability or job readiness skills that help them fit into and remain in the work environment is a real problem. Employers need reliable, responsible workers who can solve problems and who have the social skills and attitudes to work together with other workers. Creativity, once a trait avoided by employers who used a cookie cutter system, is now prized among employers who are trying to create the empowered, high performance workforce needed for competitiveness in today’s marketplace. Employees with these skills are in demand and are considered valuable human capital assets to companies. Employability skills are those basic skills necessary for getting, keeping, and doing well on a job. These are the skills, attitudes and actions that enable workers to get along with their fellow workers and supervisors and to make sound, critical decisions. Unlike occupational or technical skills, employability skills are generic in nature rather than job specific and cut across all industry types, business sizes, and job levels from the entry-level worker to the senior-most position. Job readiness skills are clustered into three skill sets: basic academic skills, higher order thinking skills, personal qualities Employability skills are those basic skills necessary for getting, keeping, and doing well on a job. Employability skills are teachable skills.
