As a resident of the Setters Leadership and House FIG, my passion for serving the community has grown even more. I view my RA as a leader in the community—a person that I can entrust and seek if I ever need help. Those who currently uphold a RA position in the residence halls that I have built relationships with have inspired me to become a RA. The RAs that I got to know helped me adjust to the different environment here at Pace. With that difficult transition from Hawaiʻi to New York, I know how it feels like to be culture-shocked. I like to socialize with a lot of diverse people from different backgrounds, in which if I am selected to be a RA, I would be able to socialize and communicate with residents personally on that level. The social aspect is one of the main reasons that I am interested in being a RA. I believe my personality fits well with it because I love to meet new people and as a previous representative and ambassador of my former high school, I have interacted and met a lot of people and was able to find common ground with each person in some form. RAs are leaders in the residence halls and I want to continue expanding my leadership skills professionally and this position will allow me to do so. I also believe that it would be biased if I didn’t mention this, but I also want to become a RA to receive the benefit of free housing because it will help me to cut costs on school education financially. My family has been struggling to keep me at Pace for the first year and if I do earn the honor of this position, the money benefit will help me to continue my education here at Pace and it would lessen my financial burden on my …show more content…

RAs know a lot about the school and resources that students can resort to if they ever need help. RAs can also be a person that a resident can talk to about anything because we are all students at Pace and going through the same experience as each other, so it makes it more comfortable and easier for a resident and a RA to get along. A RA is a mediator if roommates or suitemates aren’t getting along well and they are expected to help sort out the situation between roommates/suitemates. With this role, a RA has to be willing to listen and give constructive feedback on what he or she believes is right to do in order to handle the situation at its best. A RA is also an informative person that lets the residents know what is going on in the upcoming weeks such as sport, club, community, and residential events. Flyers posted in the hallways or on the bulletin board and slipped under resident doors are a few ways that a RA can inform their residents. Not only do RAs inform their residents, but they also need to report back to their supervisor or the RDs to ensure that there are no conflicts in the dorms.
