The roads are all “perfect”, the people all hold high morals and values, the children are all given the same kind of education, the houses are all lined perfectly down the roads and are built identical, there are beautiful flower gardens throughout the community, there is little to no crime. Does this sound like a community you would want to be apart of? The community of Colby is a beautiful community to live in as it is full of happiness, structure, and good morally bound people. But, how would you become a member of this community? Well you simply couldn’t, you would have to be born into this lovely community named “Colby”. Colby is categorized as a semi- integrated community. Once every three years the community votes and appoints members from within the community to be on the counsel that rules the people. It is not like a Presidential election anyone can be appointed into a spot on the counsel without “running” for a position. The counsel votes within itself on issues that pertain to the community and what is in the best interest of the people as a whole. The people are given a “rule book” once a year with the rules of Colby so they know and can obey the rules. If the rules are broken, the counsel votes accordingly on what should be done to that individual. The punishments range anywhere from community service to death. The children of the community wear uniforms everyday that they attend school to keep the “order” in schools. At age seventeen the children are finished with school and have all the tools needed to blossom as a successful adult in Colby. They are able to choose their jobs, but must be hired by the time they are eighteen or they will be appointed a job by the counsel and will be stuck with that job for th... ... middle of paper ... ... services and any other religious gatherings put together by the counsel for the people. There is no exceptions unless you are to ill to attend and at this time they must have a note from the community Drs office. The power structure of the community is based off the counsel. The counsel is composed of 10 community members that are voted into counsel by the majority vote of the people. The counsel runs the community in its entirety. It is not a dictatorship but sense the people of Colby voted the counsel into their positions all the trust is given to them to make the right decisions. The people obey them for this very reason. The counsel has no other job but to be a counsel members and the jobs they once held are given to the younger generation. After their term as a counsel member they are able to return to what ever perspective job they held before their term.
Every neighborhood has both positive and negative situations. It is whom every choice to decide on where to live. Gentilly is a family neighborhood. Memories have been built here for centuries. It is one of the most historical places. It wouldn’t get any better than to live in a neighborhood that has great food, universities, and has tons of history.
Driving through Charlestown will take you just three minutes. The kids on street corners will stare at your car, while adults will yell out your name and wave. The friendly atmosphere can make you feel welcome if you are a part of the neighborhood. But it vanishes if you are an outsider or a local victim of a crime.
Here it says that there was a secret selection. Nobody had any control of what their leaders were going to be. The most important people in the community elected themselves because of the power they have.
remove the juvenile from the home or not, the “attitude” (Elrod & Ryder, 2011) of the juvenile,
First off after analyzing the census data, the total population of Laurelhurst is 7789 which is only 1.2% of Seattle's absolute population as a whole. Laurelhurst also has a similar ratio of male, and women but when it comes to age group percentage wise Laurelhurst has 9.65% more teenagers than Seattle in general. This may link to the household data of Laurelhurst since 74.5% of the households are family households. Although, this residential neighborhood is a majority of married couples being 65.48% as opposed to Seattle being 40.35% currently married. So the likeliness of couples settling down in this neighborhood, and starting a family is high. Therefore, these families may have desired to live somewhat close to work that they didn’t have a high commute while at the same time still being able to live in Seattle. Although, these families have an increased dependence on vehicles for transportation.
Camden County is a town in complete and total ruins. They are over run with corruption and violence. Hedges' article does a good job of portraying just how bad off the town truly is. The economy is suffering, the education system is lacking in several areas and the police force is a joke. If changes are not made soon Camden County, they will no longer be a town that ant one will want to live in or visit.
In “The man behind Abercrombie and Fitch.” An interview conducted by Benoit Denizet-Lewis displays a glimpse into the life of Mike Jeffries and his views of his company only hiring “good-looking” people and targeting “good-looking” people to wear his clothes. This has been done in order to force his audience to recognize that the issue of acceptance one’s peers and exclusion of a community mentioned by Mike Jeffries, is a result of cultural perceptions and individual self-image. Denizet-Lewis skillfully shows that while Jeffries remarks of not wanting the “not-so-popular” kids to shop in his stores, it poses a question to consumers asking what change in our attitudes will come or if there will be any change at all. Thus comes the issue of how consumers today have a shift in the reasoning behind why one buys clothing and the motivating factors that influence one to buy certain clothing. Denizet-Lewis also demonstrates the different messages that controversial advertisements and statements affect different groups of people and how what they project is really what people desire, though deemed by many people as unacceptable or inappropriate. The author also examines how in the news media, the image has become more important than the message and how images have taken precedent over actual issues and character. As a result of this, various communities have formed by the construct of selling to “beautiful people” and how popular appeal has become an extension of a person.

Social control can either be informal (parents etc.) or formal (police etc.) and without these controls, juveniles become more susceptible to delinquency (Shaw,McKay,1942). In the city of Erie, there are a lot of neighborhoods in which are breaking down, especially the one around the Boys and Girls club. On my last day at the Boys and Girls club, a young girl was jumped just a few blocks down from the center; she was just walking home. The city of Erie itself has pocket communities of poverty which are in close proximity to communities which are more prosperous. From others who I had talked to at the club, those who worked their often had to deal with parents who did not care, were not around, or were negative influences in the child’s life. A few of the older kids at the Boys and Girls club had been involved with gangs, drug abuse and selling, and have been effected in some way by the violence in the low income neighborhoods they lived in. Staff had notified me that sometimes the programs in which the schools or juvenile
On March 7th, I spoke with Father Mark Emroll, explained the course assignment and requested his permission to attend the service. He briefly explained the prohibition for taking communion and that if I wanted to speak with either he or Father William Redmon it would need to take place after the service. Father Emroll explained the church
The Utopian land is divided into two main terrains: farmland and cities. The farmlands, of course, are where most of the country's resources are produced. The services of the economy, smithing, carpentry, clothmaking, etc., are mainly produced in the cities. Iron is the only resource which must be imported abundantly. All of the resources, except iron, that the nation requires, it produces on its own.
Due to the many meanings of the word community, people have learned to substitute community for other words. Most of the definitions are common has in a society linked by common interests but, would you really say a buffalo community? Of course not, you would say a herd of buffalo. Unfortunately, community is really only used if someone were to be talking about where people live. Even the meanings of community don’t announce themselves when people use the word. Working with a service agency (YouVote), community is used quite a bit. We worked a lot with the community of Michigan Sate University. Would Michigan State University students all have common interests? We all have the common interest to come here but, not common degrees, or classes. If it’s different at MSU would it be different everywhere else?
Community engagement is the active participation of local residents and community groups in the decisions that affect their lives (Herefordshire Council, 2013). Therefore, community engagement should be about engaging in open communication to ensure the council understands the needs of the local community.
“The Internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow.” Bill Gates. The Internet is vast and is just getting bigger. It has its own community that is open to the public. The Internet is becoming a platform all on its own. It is a stepping-stone in a direction that is unknown. The Internet has become so vast that there are now different versions of it. The different versions of the web are Web 1.0, Web 2.0, the main focus of this paper, and Web 3.0. Web 1.0 is all about sharing information. It is very bland and just gets the point across of what was needed. This how the Internet had started. Web 2.0 is sharing information with interaction. To me this means social media in some fashion. The website that was accessed has a way of interacting with the users whether it be through comments or giveaways on the web. Web 3.0 is the server interacting with the individual on a particular website. Amazon is the best example of Web 3.0 because it gives recommendations based on items that have been searched. “Among American adults 87% use the web, 68% connect...
Everyone has their own perception of an ideal community. For each person the factors of an ideal community will vary depending on their upbringing. My understanding of a community is a place where a group of people live, and socialize. Everyone is caring, thoughtful, and respectful. In my community people take care of each other they think before they act, and are respectful to one another keeping in mind equality.
