Everyone has their own perception of an ideal community. For each person the factors of an ideal community will vary depending on their upbringing. My understanding of a community is a place where a group of people live, and socialize. Everyone is caring, thoughtful, and respectful. In my community people take care of each other they think before they act, and are respectful to one another keeping in mind equality.
The physical aspect of my community include: parks, sidewalks, roads, houses, hospital, bank, community garden, restaurants, school, emergency responding units (EMU), walls (around the community for security), and a recreation center. The reason I have smooth, and clean sidewalks, green parks, and high-tech gyms is because I would like everyone in my community to exercise, and live a healthy life. The buildings and structures in my community are architectural marvels that are breath taking, and one of a kind. The reason I have brick walls as tall as palm trees surrounding my community is because I would like the people in my community to feel safe however there are als...
Community is defined as a group a people living in an area under the same conditions. Realistically, a community is so much more than this definition. It is people and their different beliefs that form a community. In the town of Milagro, Amarante Cordova, Ruby Archuleta, and a town coming together to rescue a fellow community member from jail exemplify the true spirit of what community is.
The initial community meeting has a great impact on the tone of the community. During the meeting, I would like to tell my residents our ultimate goal, having a good community. Then I would explain what a good community is. A good community is one where we share the resources and seek to improve the environment. Characteristics of a good community would include clean and safe environments, equity and social justice, diversity, mutually-supportive relationships and eager participation of residents. I will achieve this by encouraging residents to be part of the process of establishing expectations. By this way, they would become more invested in the expectations as they help create them or otherwise they may see these expectations as imposed from above.
A community is the feeling of togetherness felt in a setting with a group of people who share similar characteristics. Living in Scott Hall my freshman year of college, shaped my view of community quickly. Going to organized events, socializing in common areas and interacting with my Resident Advisors gave me an ideal
Democratic societies are were the people are involved in the decision making of the government and have representation. In Thomas Paine’s Thoughts on the Present State of American Affairs, Paine desired for the colonies to go to war against Britain to gain independence, while having the feeling that Britain was exploiting the colonies. Paine explains the disadvantages of the colonies being connected with Britain. In Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Divinity School Address he brings forth a moral argument. He discusses the relationship between man, soul, God, and the church. In Henry David Thoreau’ On the Duty of Civil Disobedience, Henry believes in the act of civil disobedience, in which man does not need the government as much as they think they do. Henry promotes the idea of individuality, in which man could do better than the government in various situations. Thomas Paine, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau, were American writers who generated their own ideas of an ideal American society, where people have involvement with the government or church.
A community is comprised of a group of goal oriented individuals with similar beliefs and expectations. Currently the term is used interchangeably with society, the town one lives in and even religion. A less shallow interpretation suggests that community embodies a lifestyle unique to its members. Similarities within the group establish bonds along with ideals, values, and strength in numbers unknown to an individual. Ideals and values ultimately impose the culture that the constituents abide by. By becoming part of a community, socialization...
The Utopian land is divided into two main terrains: farmland and cities. The farmlands, of course, are where most of the country's resources are produced. The services of the economy, smithing, carpentry, clothmaking, etc., are mainly produced in the cities. Iron is the only resource which must be imported abundantly. All of the resources, except iron, that the nation requires, it produces on its own.
How would someone define the word community? A community could be anything. If one were to listen to an everyday conservation, the word community, would probably be used very little. The word community has multiple meanings, ranging from communist or socialistic society (Emerson) to the quality of appertaining to or being held by all in common (Oxford).
A Community can be defined as a group of people who don’t just live in the same area, but also share the same interests, experiences and often concerns about the area in which they live. Often when individuals have lived on a street or in an area for a while they become familiar with each other and the issues surrounding them. Children often attend the same schools and grow up together, again sharing similar experiences. In some instances adults may work together, and quite commonly all community members will share the same doctors, dentists, hospitals, health visitors and other public services and facilities.
As described by Hatwin and Percy-smith a community profile is ‘A comprehensive description of the needs of a population that is defined, or defines itself, as a community, and the resources that exist within the community, carried out with the active involvement of the community itself, for the purpose of developing an action plan or other means of improving the quality of life of the community.’ (Hawtin and Percy-Smith, 2007, p10). A community profile is a useful and effective way of discovering and developing and understanding about a specific geographical area. Community profiles help to improve service provision and make new plans to reduce health inequalities.
While trying to examine how my community has changed economically since the 80's, I found myself pondering what my community really was. I have had the unfortunate experience to understand how a person can feel as if they don't really belong. Since I had moved about nine times within my life, and I am only eighteen years old, I became stuck, without any ideas of what to write about. While facing this assignment, I realized that I did not know if I had a place I would consider my "community," or even my true "home."
What is your idea of a healthy community? Provide specific examples. What do healthy communities have in common? How would you provide care for a community if your idea of a healthy community does not match your community 's definition of a healthy community?
The Role of Community in Society Communities are an essential part of our society, because we all depend and interact with each other. Communities are groups of people that help an individual to learn and develop new ideas. A society is where people’s relations with each other are direct and personal and where a complex web of ties link people in mutual bonds of emotion and obligation. The idea of community has provided a model to contrast to the emergence of more modern less personal societies where cultural, economic and technological transformations have uprooted tradition and where complexity has created a less personal and more rationalized and goal directed social life.
What do you imagine when you think of your personal utopia? What are the people like, what system of government is there, where is it located? Well, in my utopia, the people wouldn't need a government, and would live mostly off of the land, there would be no money and the people would trade with each other, and it would be in an environment that would be easy to live off of.
My dream place would be a house on a Galapagos Island. My land will be located on the Isabella Island. It will be nice and relaxing because it has a constant weather all that time, perfect environment. Also I will have a nice 2 floor cabin. The cabins will look like the ones that you see in forest. My whole family will live there after I am 75. But before that I will spend my time gathering all the money to buy a piece of land, a plane, a boat, and some vegetable seed (lot of them). I want my dream place to be nice and relaxing where you can enjoy the environment and very peaceful weather.
...bly support the inhabitants without degrading environment, economy and social in the present and the following generations. Beside, carry capacity contains the ability for the area to provide our basic needs such as clothing, food, medical care in order to offer a decent and reasonable life quality. Therefore, government should cooperate with the developers to renew some used land in order to supply more public housings, which can let more needy to live in the area to meet the overpopulation problems without harming the precious environment. Taking Tak Long Estate as an example, its area is about 300 hectares with the capacity of 90000, which can settle more than 10% of total population in Hong Kong. It illustrates that the government may use reasonable size with well planning to develop large capacity to meet housing problems without cutting green belts area.
