I am writing this letter to you to inform you about the concerns that I have regarding the issues in the classrooms of our public schools. It has come to my attention that students are not getting a proper education. Too many students are being left unprepared for the world or work. Teachers, you play an important role in students daily lives form kindergarten to high school, therefore, it is in the students best interest that you, teachers, use effective teaching strategies to make the subject interesting, positively impacting students academic performance by encouragements, and empowering students with your knowledge and guidance to find their career oaths.
We all know that today’s classrooms are over packed and it can be very overwhelming

Students that are highly motivated and are eager to learn should often be recognized by their teachers to show that their hard work is acknowledged. From my high school experience, I remember teachers constantly trying to find that one troublemaker to pick on the entire semester. In the article, “Idiot Nation”, Michael Moore talks about the failing education in America and his own experience when he transferred from private school to public school. In the article he states that public schools had one mission, “Hunt these little pricks down, then cage them until we can either break their will or ship them off to the glue factory… Do this, don’t do that, tuck your shirt in, wipe that smile off your face, where’s your hall pass, THAT’S THE WRONG PASS! YOU-DETENTION!!!” (127). I believe that constantly picking on students can discourage them and can take away the excitement of learning. You can easily change this; instead of constantly pointing out the flaws of the student, you can praise them and their work. Reward them when they’re on their good behavior, acknowledge all the efforts that they put in their work or assignment, teach them how to behave appropriately. If they are being rude or disruptive, call them aside and educate them about their behavior instead of calling out on them in front of all the classmates. By creating a fun and exciting learning environment will keep the students of the streets. Remember that one teacher that you absolutely loved and couldn’t wait until the next day to go back to school? You can be that teacher as well if you choose the right teaching techniques and compassion for your
Then she says “I sometimes look at the options in teaching and wonder why such an important job is so poorly compensated yet it receives more criticism than respect in America.” She points out how much work teachers have to do even when their students are on vacation, and she wants her readers to sympathize with how hard teachers work. She points out that teachers don’t exit school the day that students are released and confirms this by saying “There are reports to complete, rooms to organize and lesson plans to write,” and “Teachers spend hours writing lesson plans and aligning them to the standards.” Myra ends the letter by comparing teachers with doctors on this sarcastic quote, “I cannot think of another profession, even medicine, that mandates 100% success, pays little and then harps when a person takes a day off – personal, sick, or otherwise.” This articles serves the purpose of finding a way to understand why teachers may want a day off and why the public should stop being so harsh on
Only now is evidence emerging testifying to the fact that much of the criticism leveled at public schools is exaggerated and misplaced. It is easy to forget that schools reflect what is happening in society, not cause it. Schools of today have recently shown that they are performing better than ever. Unfortunately, the traditional challenges confronting schools have increased dramatically and broadly as the world and students have changed. Now schools are facing drastic change -- necessary change that must take place quickly so students are able to cope in a dramatically changing world of the future. All of the criticism creates fear in teachers and administrators rather than a desire to embrace change.
I feel the areas that I have touched in this paper along with my personal philosophy statement, reflect my views and opinions as a future educator. I have spoke about areas that are of importance to me, and ideas that I feel will make a difference in someone’s life. As a teacher, I truly want to make a difference and teach students the importance of an education, and the opportunities that are available to them. Education can take people places and I feel more people need to come to this realization.
I can guarantee that punishment is not the answer. Punishment is a suggestion made by reformers (Postman, 311), but it is the absolute worst decision that can be made in our schools. When students get out of school suspension (OSS), they treat it as a vacation day and most of them use it to play video games, and they still get to make up the work they missed. A countless amount of kids in my high school did exactly that. On another side of that, punishment is giving a student attention. Not a great kind of attention, but attention nonetheless. If a student really wants attention, it won’t matter to them what kind. If something is awry in the classroom, it should be ignored. Usually in situations where students are causing a disturbance, it is because they crave the attention. Punishing them is falling right into their
There are many ways for how to promote positive behaviour with children and young people. It is important that children grow up to be good adults and therefore they have to learn from a young age how to behave in public. As a teacher it is important to be a role model to the children. Those children see you every day for a couple of hours and they see what you are doing.
As an educator, I understand that negative impact of not having a highly qualified teacher in every classroom. In the last decade, people have decided not to study education and many educators have left field. Therefore, I believe it is of the upmost importance to identify future educators at an early age. Moreover, this project will have a positive impact on students at Jefferson County High School. As a life-long learner, I believe it is crucial that I set the example for my students. It is my desire to make this a great experience for them and to learn new things as we matriculate through the program.
1. I think the most common way I see the teachers helping the children is by being a role model. Showing the kids how to act towards peers and authrity figures. Kids are very intuative, they pick up on things very easy. So if you showing the children respect the kids will take that with them and show respect to others. I noticed anytime a child was having problems one of the teachers would always get down to their level and talk to them, making sure to make eye contact and not to talk above them but instead to talk to them. Asking the child if something was bothering them and just working on focusing on that child and respecting how they felt really seemed to help the kid to mellow out and realize that arguing and pushing to get what he wants isnt the best way to handle things. After the teacher talked to him I noticed he was being more polite to other children and even ofering to share his toys with other kids he was previously arguing with. I think it also helped that not only was the teacher respecting the child but she was doing it in a loving way. She wasnt acting like she was better than the child or knew more she was just listening and talking to him on his level. I think it helps to model acceptiable behavior but to also do it in a loving way. Watching the teachers respect each other and work with each other to better the classroom, listening and working off each other advice about certain problems, or changes they think might need to be made. Having the teachers work together and respect each others advice and imput shows the kids how to work with their peers.
I try imparting into them the importance of an education and how they contribute to the growth of our society. In my classroom, I am in control. I draw a clear line between what and how much my students are allowed to do in the classroom. In the first week of school, I establish my authority and I clearly and explicitly express my classroom and outside the classroom procedures that will be followed and the rights that every student has in the classroom. Some examples, all students have the right to learn, all students have a right to be heard, and all students have a right to be respected. There are consequences for those that chose not to abide. This set the tone for my classroom environment for the entire year so, that learning may take
Have you ever tried to open your front door with your car remote? Have you ever thought you were the best employee, only to be betrayed by your boss? These are examples of how intelligent people can be stupid. Whether in the workplace or at home, peoples’ intelligence, ability, and competence do have an impact on others. This paper will examine the terms of “smart” and “stupid”, fallacious beliefs, and managerial competence and the affect they have upon others.
Education is meant to be the key to a successful life. It is supposed to inspire great ideas, and prepare each and every generation for their future. However, school for today 's generation fails to meet those requirements. Every student knows education is important, but when school is not engaging or in some cases, even relevant, it makes learning difficult. Improving the school system is something educators attempt to accomplish every year. Despite their best efforts, there are numerous flaws students see, but adults overlook. There is a lack of diversity for students to learn, an overabundance of testing, and students’ voices are being ignored on how to create a more productive learning experience.
Going to school and getting a great education is important for a successful future in today’s world. Years ago, many children did not go to school and many young adults opted to work instead of attending college. In today’s society, gaining a high level of education is almost always mandatory for many jobs. There are many changes being done to the education system along with new items and ways of teaching in the classroom. There is a growing amount of changes in the classroom such as technology, teaching time, teaching styles, and freedom of space.
President George Bush’s “No Child Left Behind Act” fails to focus on the recruitment and diversity within the profession. He sets a goal for the year 2005 for every classroom to have a quality teacher but no goal for retaining these teachers. The improvement of the profession requires a national step-by-step effort. The purpose of this paper was to gather and explore information on the teaching profession and with it explore the shortage within in order to educate and strike up reform. It is clear, that reform will require a lot of time and money. The end product however, will show success within the profession thereby equaling success in the classroom. Success comes when present in the classrooms are caring and committed teachers, all with the goal of education and diversity is among them. .
Our nation’s education system strives through the hard work and dedication of its educators. Often great teachers, principles and supporting staff are drawn to the profession because they possess the desire to empower, inspire, nurture and watch young people grow - not only academically, but also emotionally. These people are there because they want to make an impact upon our society and the lives of whom the reach. Highly effective teachers are those who have taken learning to new heights by accelerating student learning, closing achievement gaps that persisted for decades, and promoting a mindset of change. Moreover, the presence of highly effective teachers in classrooms today continues to manifest as a result of the support from strong school leaders (U.S. Department of Education, 2013).
With the proper guidance and support, teachers can achieve academic excellence in the classroom. They follow their principal’s vision and share their goals. Teachers also serve as leaders in their classroom. They share their vision and goals with their students promoting positive attitudes in the classroom. Just like it is important for principals to respect and understand what their teachers need, students also need the support, understanding, respect and empathy from their teachers. When teachers demonstrate commitment in the classroom and set high expectations they raise the level of learning in the classroom. Teachers that work with the students and their parents to understand and meet their needs will achieve positive academic outcomes. Students engage in learning with positive attitudes and strive for high achievements. Teachers work together with their leaders to improve their teaching
Education has played an important role in people’s lives and receiving the best education is a right to all humans, but now in days we can see that our education system is in deep distress. This is made evident by the low rate of graduates; that’s why our education system needs to be improved. Many people think that our government is responsible for our bad education system, However, teachers are the real issue even though many teachers are saying they 're doing their best, they’re not. How do we improve our education system? For a start, we need to provide better teaching programs for teachers to improve their skills and make them earn their tenure instead of just giving it to them.
