Garret McEvily is your average 17 year old boy. With not many job opportunities open to him, he chose to pursue a part time job at a local fast food place. He works at Papa Vito’s in Millstadt, IL. Even though Papa Vito’s is a pizza joint he mainly spends time crafting salads. Garret said that he has many reasons for working there, he said the main reasons were the social atmosphere, good management, the pay, and his opportunity to move up. The main reason that Garret wanted to work at Papa Vito’s was because of the employees that were already their. He told me that he knew most of the employees that are working at Papa Vito’s before he got the job. He has an overall fun time with his work and his friends at work. The managers at Papa Vito’s are very fair with everything they do, from scheduling hours to assigning workloads. They always make sure that no one person has too much work to do at one time. Garret has always said that they never over scheduled him. His managers always try their best to respect each and everyone of their employees’ schedules. Garret recalls a certain time when he needed to change his hours, because he wanted to go to his high school's homecoming dance. He told me in the interview, “Three days before belleville west hoco, I asked to be off for home coming and they took me off the schedule.” This is just one example that Garret could think of immediately when I asked for an example of when his managers were flexible with his schedule. He assured me that he could name off several more occasions where his managers were flexible with not only his, but his co-workers hours also. Garret says that he could not ask for a better manager. Although his managers are very flexible with their employees hours, they always make sure that everyone is doing their job. According to Daum, “Amazing Bosses know efficiency can be the enemy of efficacy in the long run...” The managers at Papa Vito’s know this very well. They want to make sure that the customers is satisfied with the final product that is created by the Paps Vito’s staff. The article also states that, “Amazing Bosses create an environment where people are …show more content…
Garret makes minimum wage at Papa Vito’s. Even though he is still in high school he is happy with whatever money that he can get through working. He uses his money for things he likes and has his parents buy the necessities like food. Garret wants to be able to buy his own items that he wants and that is the main reason that he got a job. Garret says that he tries really hard to do his best when he is working so that he can continue working there. Garret does have to balance his work hours with his classes though. Because Garret has homework during the week he can’t work long hours during that time. He mainly tries to get long shifts during the weekend to make up for all the hours that he missed during the week. Garret understands that taking these shifts during the weekend limits what he can do for fun, but he always finds ways to use his free time to have

Etzioni states that when people work at fast food businesses, it sets an nonacademic standard of working conditions. Workers are being taught specific roles in the workplace that are mapped out for them the way it is required to be, which leaves “[...] no room for initiative, creativity, or even elementary rearrangements” (Etzioni). Etzioni shares his idea that fast food industries are training “robots”. These “robots’ follow commands mindlessly, whether it be cutting into homework or family time, dropping out of school, or doing whatever it takes just to keep a job that is supposed to be the initial training ground in work experience.
In the essay, “Working at McDonald’s,” Amitai Etzioni shares his strong belief that working, especially at McDonald’s type restaurants, is bad for teenagers. I would agree that working is not a good thing for teenagers under some circumstances but at other times it is good. First, jobs affect school involvement and attendance in bad ways. Second, jobs often provide “on the job experience,” but much of the time the experience taught is useless. Third, fast food jobs may provide a disadvantaged status. Fast food jobs can also provide an advantaged status. Finally, workers can learn to manage their money by making mistakes with money before they get into the Real World.
I used to work at my local McDonalds for three years during high school. At first, I thought I was there just to make an extra quick buck to fund my weekend adventures, but later would turn into a key cog at the store as the crew trainer and starting to be prepped for a managerial spot. It was exciting, learning how to place orders for the store, make the work schedule and cycle counts among other things. Soon however, I started to realize how replaceable my coworkers a...
I just got a job as a night guard at the soon to be opened horror attraction based on Freddy Fazbear's pizza chain. They scavenged for anything that remains of the restaurants. Well, let’s get this job started. I walk into the office to find a prerecorded message waiting there for me. Someone talks about the mysteries behind Freddy Fazbear’s pizzerias. Then says they found some old training tapes and left me to listen to one.
Summary: In the essay, “Part-time Employment Undermines a Student’s Commitment to School” by Laurence Steinberg, it explains how studies show that teenagers that work while attending school are more likely to loose their commitment to school. Steinberg tells the effects on students when they work more than twenty hours a week. His theory was that students are more susceptible to losing their interest in school, while working. They may have to work in the evening time, which can interfere with homework, sleep and diet. Steinberg also elaborated on how these students that work receive money that can make school seem less desirable. Also because they do receive money, they can use their extra money to become associated with drugs and alcohol.
Workforce Challenges: Unlike the competitors TP did not try to make pizza delivery as easy as possible. In order to cope with a high employee replacement, TP instead sought to upgrade both its entry-level employees and the responsibilities they handled. Together with performance measurement systems, employees could be evaluated.
My background in the fast food industry starts with my first real job. I began working at Wendy’s when I was sixteen years old. I kept to myself for nearly a year. I was working for one thing, and that was to satisfy the customers. After exactly three years, the choice to move on and change was a hard decision to make, my hours were steady, and the managers were pushing me to move up in the chain of power and become a shift manager.
Richards goes on to blast the American Health Care Act using hyperbolic language regarding its supposed hatred of women. She feigns concern about mothers bonding with their babies, and claims the bill is a punishment for women. Once again masked by innocuous language, her true concern begins to shine through.
