Richards goes on to blast the American Health Care Act using hyperbolic language regarding its supposed hatred of women. She feigns concern about mothers bonding with their babies, and claims the bill is a punishment for women. Once again masked by innocuous language, her true concern begins to shine through.
“Imagine you’re a woman here in the U.S. who wants to wait to become a mother until you’re ready. You now have to do so with a head of Health and Human Services who thinks women have no problem affording health care like birth control,” she wrote.
This hypothetical woman who wants to “wait to become a mother” is of course truly a woman who wants to kill her baby. As often as Planned Parenthood attempts to prove that abortion is truly
amongst women with respect to the issue of birth control. According to Davis, a woman. viewpoint on the matter was highly influenced by their socio-economic status. She explains that the cost of having a child is much more of a burden for the women of the labor class due to the lack of financial stability. For these women only the most dangerous forms of birth control are available.
The fact that the only physician to support contraceptives was a woman speaks volumes about the disconnect between the male and female perspective on the issue. It begs the question: Can a man objectively weigh in on this issue? Since inarguably both the physical sacrifice and emotional burden of carrying to term and caring for an unwanted child lay solely on the
Cook, Selig, Wedge, and Gohn-Baube (1999) stated that an essential part of the country’s public health agenda is to improve access to prenatal care, particularly for economically disadvantaged women. I agree with this statement because access to care is very important for the outcome of a healthy mother and child. Improving access to prenatal care for disadvantaged women will not only save lives but also lighten the high financial, social, and emotional costs of caring for low weight babies. Some of the barriers that these women face are mainly structural where the availability of care is limited; the cost of care is a financial burden; and the time to seek care is problematic due to being single mothers working more than one job (Lia-Hoagberb, 1990). Additionally, there is the issue of prenatal care being delivered differently depending on one’s race. A study found that White mothers delivering ve...
I believe, that if you don’t think you are capable of giving your child a decent life, that they will be able to be successful in, you should consider your all options, maybe being a parent isn’t right for you. Every child deserves happiness and I hate seeing people treat their children poorly, abusing them, and neglecting them. If you do not want kids, you shouldn’t have them, no child should live feeling unwanted. I also stand by the fact that it is no one’s business unless you include them in the fact that you are having an abortion, I see few ways in how it may affect the rest of the world, if you decide not to have a child or not. All women reserve the right of privacy, and of course a choice. It isn't up to the government to tell women to give birth or not, and that’s why the law is the way it is. According to ("EsMBA." Five Major Pro Choice Abortion Arguments. N.p., n.d. Web. 25 Aug. 2016. )Most women were using a method of birth control that didn't work properly. By denying women abortions, who never intended to have children or become pregnant, forces them have children they don't want. Unwanted childbirth can have a severely negative impact on a person’s life, forcing them to raise another human, and take time away from that person’s necessities, and effecting every single day
We all know that Planned Parenthood is a charitable association that researches into and gives guidance on contraception, family arranging, and regenerative issues. However, society and especially the American people need to realize what Planned Parenthood does to the unborn children. Some think funding Planned Parenthood is a good idea without looking at the affects that is will cause and then there are others that see likewise and want to defund Planned Parenthood. When arguing the point on defunding Planned Parenthood the liberals and conservatives has two different perspective and argumentative points which both goes a long way trying to get society to understand both their views. However, both sides feel that their perspective of defunding
With all the work put into finding ways to prevent pregnancy and help the pain of menstrual cycles, it is a shame to see it denied to women working for big companies. The amount of girls and women who use any type of birth control is very high and continues to stay this way because of the benefits and the percentage of birth control working for these women. Taking away working women’s access to affordable birth control is unacceptable and I hope that one day soon all women will have access to affordable birth
Planned Parenthood federation of America (PPFA), is widely known as Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that provides reproductive healthcare and family planning services. Planned Parenthood is the nation 's leading sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate (Planned). Planned Parenthood receives federal funding from the government to help practice the services they provide, but some groups believe that funding this organization is morally wrong. Specifically, in the recent Republican Presidential debates, defunding Planned Parenthood and Abortion rights have been the central topic. However if the government were to move forward with the defunding
Planned Parenthood provides much important health care to women in the United States. Therefore the Government (State and Federal) should continue to fund the organization. PPFA (Planned Parenthood Federation of America) provides a high variety of service at affordable pricing to women, men, and teenagers. Planned Parenthood has been categorized by some government representatives as an organization that misspend funds as well as some religious systems that oppose abortion. PPFA have also supply communities with guidance, health services, abortion services as well as referrals for adoption.
There really cannot be a discussion about being pro-life or the pro-life movement without first discussing Roe v. Wade. This monumental Supreme Court Case, which was decided over forty years ago, is what has put the pro-life, pro-choice debate front and center. Some have even said that the two sides are “ensnared in a violent and deadly war” (Tomlin, 1994, 423). With the decision the pro-lifer’s were now in opposition to the status quo, while putting “pro-choicers within the established law” (Vanderford, 1989, 167). The case originally had its origins four years before the final decision in 1973. Norma McCorvey, aka Jane Roe, was the anonymous plaintiff in this case. She had become pregnant, and had been unable to obtain an illegal abortion. McCorvey was refereed to two young female Texan attorneys who eventually brought the case forward in 1969, when they decided to challenge Texas’ abortion ban (Munson, 2009, 83).
Being a mother is a lifelong job that requires copious time, energy, and money. There are myriad different reasons in which a woman would consider getting an abortion. The decision is often tragic and painful for the mother. It is one of the biggest choices a woman will make. Many people have strong beliefs about abortion, and if a mother makes a decision that they do not agree with they sometimes turn against the mother, and enkindle egregious feelings about their decision for the rest of their life. Indeed a woman may not get an abortion for selfish reasons or out of convenience, but out of a desire to protect certain important values such as her own health or a decent standard of living for the other members of the family. Additional intentions for having abortion include rape, financial difficulties, obligation by family members, or danger to the baby’s health (Roleff
Abortion advocates ask “What about the mother?” and the prolife advocates answer “what about the baby?”- The Feminist Case against Abortion. Serrin M. Foster. Sept 2015. Web jan 2015. http://americamagazine.org/issue/feminist-case-against-abortion. This is a very serious subject in our society today. Almost 42 million induced abortions happen all over the world each year. This is 42 million unborn children that never had a chance or even a say in what their futures would hold. This is not preventing poverty; we have proved that, this is our country not holding anyone responsible for their actions. Those that have supported this action are just as guilty as those that have committed the injustice act. These children did not ask to be made
While Pollitt states the claims made by the abortion opponents, she informs the reader on possible solutions to helping pregnant woman, instead of degrading them and making their life worse. Pollitt’s mission is for a woman to have control and rights over their own bodies with no government involvement, no one to say what women can or cannot do with her body, including her husband or family. A woman goes to great lengths to get an abortion and she would not do that if she was not positive on her decision being the right one. Pollitt discusses that instead of the republican’s and anti-abortionist trying to remove abortion availability and make abortion illegal, that the government should increase health care for everybody, birth control should
One story that does go against the grain is the one of Planned Parenthood. The shooting that occurred in Colorado left three dead and nine injured which does not constitute as a mass shooting. Due to the fact that Planned Parenthood has always been a part of controversy among the nation, this story was big enough to make the front pages of the news. All news outlets covered the story from ABC News to Fox News and all their articles show similarities and differences. In the ABC News story there was twenty-seven mini paragraphs deciphering the occurrences that day. They covered who the shooter was, how long he was in Planned Parenthood for, and how many people were dead and injured. The article also added some background information here and there. Then turning to the FOX News article, there are five mini articles and a video with the news coverage. They
Many women describe it as a privilege and miracle, while others consider the act of conceiving and carrying another human being as an inexplicable feeling. Those women that enjoy the opportunity of being a mother cherish every moment and appreciate it as a wonderful gift. Although this stands as a beautiful thing, there exists women choosing to abort. Women of all ages may face the decision of whether or not to terminate the life that they carry in their womb through the abortion process. Nevertheless, late-term abortion results in terrifying consequences.
Family-planning policy in the United States has recently taken a dramatic change in direction. Over the last decade, the pace of legislation designed to restrict access to abortion services has accelerated [1]. At the same time, public funding for contraception has been singled out as the specific target of ideological opposition [2] and has become newly entangled in the abortion debate. Although abortion has long been controversial, this shift in attitudes toward contraception is both surprising and recent. It marks a striking change from the 1950s and 1960s, during which the family-planning movement generated strong bipartisan support for widespread voluntary access to contraception [3]. This era culminated in 1970 with a Republican president,
