Planned Parenthood and women
Planned Parenthood provides much important health care to women in the United States. Therefore the Government (State and Federal) should continue to fund the organization. PPFA (Planned Parenthood Federation of America) provides a high variety of service at affordable pricing to women, men, and teenagers. Planned Parenthood has been categorized by some government representatives as an organization that misspend funds as well as some religious systems that oppose abortion. PPFA have also supply communities with guidance, health services, abortion services as well as referrals for adoption.
Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization that receives federal as well as state government funding. As per Lori Robertson’s article on factcheck.org, she states that “Planned parenthood’s 2008-2009 annual report states that it received $363.2 million in” Government grants”(Lori Robertson) As per government representative Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah and a member of the Republican Party he believes that the grants that the federal government have been providing PPFA have been mainly used on abortion service and not on health services. While being “In a senate floor speech on Aug.3, Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, who cosponsored a failed bill to fund Planned Parenthood, also said that “abortion account for 94 percent of Planned parenthood’s pregnancy services”” (D’Angelo Gore). The organization also have antiabortion groups who also wants the funding to be cut. One of the allegation that Monica Miller a rally organizer made against PPFA is that “ The kind of sexual ethic that Planned Parenthood promotes is sex for recreation, sec for mere pleasure”(Monica Miller). Meanwhile, we also have the religious groups that beli...

...my child up for adoption here are some of my personal reasons. The main reason cannot afford to raise a child, I would want to give my child all the necessary support,( emotionally & physically), might just be a set back as far as educationally and professionally and last the child was conceived while being in an abusive relationship.
In my personal point of view, none of the negative claims that some individuals have against PPFA are true. I do respect everyone’s personal point of view about some of the work that this organization does, but we see the goods and the bad, I honestly think that the goods outweigh the negative claims against them and as I mention before none of this allegation have been able to be proven with concrete fact. Their movement has not just focused on one specific thing in the United States the same services are given to other countries.
There is a common misconception that Planned Parenthood is a center for abortions, and that is it. The truth is, only three percent of Planned Parenthood’s services relate to abortions. Planned Parenthood receives $500 million in federal funding and it is illegal to spend any of that money on abortion services. In CNN ’s article, "Planned Parenthood, by the Numbers”, there are clear statistics about how Planned Parenthood manages the money they receive and how a majority of their work focuses on
Planned Parenthood is non-profit and has been around for over fifty years. Planned Parenthood offers many services to women, other than abortions. A few of the services offered to women are free health care, such as anemia testing, cholesterol screening, physical exams for employees and for sports, flu vaccinations, aid in quitting smoking, high blood pressure testing, tetanus vaccinations, and thyroid screening. The many other services they offer include free birth control, emergency contraception, testing for STD’s (Sexually Transmitted Diseases), breast cancer screenings, cervical cancer screenings, pelvic exams, free information to women, and a number of other things.(“General Health”) Under the Hyde amendment that passed in 1976, there has been a legislative provision prohibiting the use of certain federal funds to pay for abortion unless the pregnancy arises from incest, rape, or to save the life of the mother. During the fiscal year that ended in June 2014, Planned Parenthood affiliates around the country received $528.4 million in government funds. It has been estimated that 42 percent of their services went towards STD/STI testing and treatment, 34 percent went to contraceptive, 11 percent to women's health services, 9 percent to cancer screenings and prevention, 3 percent to abortion, and 1 percent to other services. During a time in which white supremacy was being challenged by an ever-increasing African population, a woman named Margaret Sanger “sought to purify America’s breeding stock and purge America’s bad stains” (Planned Parenthood). She set out to establish the American Birth Control League, which eventually became the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). Sanger’s actions provoked much controversy because at the time not only was contraception illegal in the United States, but it was denounced by almost every major religious denomination (Contraception History). Margaret Sanger set out on a mission to overcome first the church and then the state in order to “stop bringing to birth children whose inheritance cannot be one of health or intelligence,” (Planned Parenthood) and to impact women’s sexual freedom.
There are many reasons, some families choose this option. For starters, many women want to experience the joy of carrying a baby in their womb, and embryo adoption can allow them to do that. (Christian embryo bank, 2016). There is also the added benefit that embryo adoption is much less expensive than regular adoption ranging from 6 thousand to 10 thousand dollars (Christian embryo bank, 2016). This is good news for families that might not have the financial means to go through with a traditional adoption. Traditional adoption is also becoming much more difficult of a process, international adoption is more difficult than ever and it is now more acceptable for people to have babies out of wedlock, so there are fewer babies now available for adoption, making embryo adoption a viable choice for many couples coping with infertility (Embryo adoption,
The common misconception about Planned Parenthood primary does abortions but that is simply not true. According to the reports from Planned Parenthood of America only three of all Planned Parenthood health services are abortions and not every Planned Parenthood clinic provides abortion services (Planned Parenthood Federation of America). A recent Pew Research Center poll recorded that two-thirds of voters under thirty believe that abortion should be legal in most or all cases (Laguen 2). This poses a bigger question, should the government be able to govern over women’s
We all know that Planned Parenthood is a charitable association that researches into and gives guidance on contraception, family arranging, and regenerative issues. However, society and especially the American people need to realize what Planned Parenthood does to the unborn children. Some think funding Planned Parenthood is a good idea without looking at the affects that is will cause and then there are others that see likewise and want to defund Planned Parenthood. When arguing the point on defunding Planned Parenthood the liberals and conservatives has two different perspective and argumentative points which both goes a long way trying to get society to understand both their views. However, both sides feel that their perspective of defunding
Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that aims to provide healthcare for women and educate people of all ages about sexual education. Their website (www.plannedparenthood.org) allows both women and men to learn about reproductive health, find a health center, and discover more about the “mission” of Planned Parenthood. “Virginity” (https://www.plannedparenthood.org/teens/sex/virginity) is the title of one of the articles in the Info For Teens section of the website. This article loosely defines virginity and addresses some of the common fears teens may have about the subject. Another article, “Am I Ready?” (https://www.plannedparenthood.org/teens/sex/am-i-ready), serves to give advice to those who are thinking about having sex for the first time, or just being physically intimate with another person for the first time. Both of these articles leave very little out in terms of different sexualities, genders, and other minority groups. They also both explore the ways power relationships (in this case, boyfriend and girlfriend) can affect sexual relationships. As a result, Planned Parenthood creates information that can be applied to almost any person, male or female,
Parents have the tendency to overlook how lucky they are to have had the ability to create their own children. Many do not recognize what a true blessing it is to have kids, and that others are not fortunate enough to experience that miracle. Ten percent of couples endure infertility (Advantages) so they must consider other options. A very popular choice is adoption. It is not only a good alternative for the couple, but also for the child who needs a loving home.
President- elect, Donald Trump, and Vice President- elect, Mike Pence, have stated their views on Planned Parenthood and how it should be defunded; especially Vice President elect, Mike Pence, who has a history of trying to defund Planned Parenthood. In 2007, Mike Pence introduced a bill to defund Planned Parenthood, and kept pushing for it until it passed in 2011. "If Planned Parenthood wants to be involved in providing counseling services and HIV testing, they ought not be in the business of providing abortions," Pence told Sarah Kliff in 2011. "As long as they aspire to do that, I’ll be after them." So after this troubling statements and bills, I decided to set the record straight. Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit reproductive health care organization. It’s services provide STD testing, pregnancy prevention, contraception, counseling, cancer and HIV tests, and abortions. Planned Parenthood is a well rounded health care organization for men and women. They use their resources to help you not the other way around. Planned Parenthood is a program designed to help all human beings. Planned Parenthood shouldn’t be defunded; instead it should be keep being available to all human beings visiting or living in the
One major controversy in America today deals with the corporate company of Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood is an organization that provides health care, sex education, and information pertaining to anything in reproductive health care to men and women around the world. Over 1.5 million people get provided with sexual education every year through Planned Parenthood, and 2.7 million people in the U.S alone annually visit Planned Parenthood, and over 5 million men and women around the world. This company’s main goal is to prevent unintended pregnancies, and inform young and old on the measures to take if and when unwanted pregnancies happen. There are many different view points with this organization today, and currently it is a major controversy in the eyes of our government.
Abortion is a one of the most controversial issues in this country, and those who aren’t in favor, or pro-life, think that is morally wrong, and because of that reason they believe that the government should no longer fund Planned Parenthood. Those who oppose Planned Parenthood argue that their tax dollars are paying for these abortions by the organization by the government funding them and they claim that isn’t right. Another reason would be that abortion is the main service they profit from and focus on, and because of that they should be defunded. Others argue that even though funding does not directly go to abortion services provided by Planned Parenthood, that it frees up money from other services to be directed to abortions (Rovner). There has been progress for these groups, for they have lobbied state and national government, which has, lead some legislators to propose legislation that reduces or expelling funding in certain states. Amongst these states that have been affected are Tennessee, Indiana, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Texas, Kansas, and North Carolina (Keen). The state most affected was Texas, as Planned Parenthood was defunded completely, and 47 billion dollars were cut the organization (Keyes). Many groups also have pulled funding from Planned Parenthood, as a result of the controversy with the controversy of their abortion services. Many seem to believe that
(plannedparenthood.com) Abortion has been an ongoing issue since the 1820s where people have been debating should abortion be acceptable or should be banned this issue has caused two different groups of form. These two groups are know... ... middle of paper ... ... ason to. At some point you got to take responsibility for what you have done and look at other options which is where I feel like Planned Parenthood does a good job at because they help the client weigh out there options and think of other ways to deal with the situation.
“Listen, honey, if men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament.” Gloria Steinem, a renowned feminist and abortion advocate (“Changing the World…”). Indeed, the truth is that women are marginalized material in a male-dominated society. Abortion is the right women should have accessibility towards, whether she wants to abort or not. In the past, the right to have an abortion was limited to those who could pay or had a supportive husband. Yet, today, women still do not have an equal right to have an abortion. As a feminist advocate, I am addressing why every woman in the United States should have the right to an abortion without being judged.
It is hard to define the motives of someone who wants to adopt a child from foster care since it is truly hard to fully understand the intentions of anyone. When people come into the foster home, the people who work at these homes want to believe that the future parents looking to adopt these children would provide them a loving place to stay and that the sole purpose for their adoption is to provide a better home for the child. Sadly, this is not always
Or what about a situation where a child you closely know is in need of a loving family? Maybe you were adopted, or your life has been deeply touched by adoption. Wouldn 't you want to benefit others lives in the same way? Now of course there are numerous hardships and dangers of adoption as well. The process of adoption can take anywhere from quite a few months to several years. You must connect with adoption agencies, complete home studies, submit important documents, and fill out possibly endless amounts of paperwork. The financial implications can also be quite large for the different required services to become an adoptive family. Also, when adopting, you don 't always know what you are getting yourself into. What health or behavioral issues will my new child have? Will they be strong and healthy? Or was their birth mother irresponsible during pregnancy causing developmental issues? All these aspects from how to adopt, why to adopt, and hardships of adoption will factor into ones decision to adopt and pursuing that decision, or
