As a young child, I had always aspired to work in the medical field. The intricacy of a hospital, the wide range of health professions and the prospect of being able to help so many people has both overwhelmed and excited me. As I matured, I realized that my motivation to pursue a job in the medical field is tied to the challenges that lie beyond the stethoscope. I continue to be fascinated by the prospect of being a medical professional who gets to utilize my passion for science, create relationships with patients and also work in the engaging environment of a bustling hospital. My sanity is always questioned when I state that I love molecular biology. But it is true. Learning about macromolecules and ATP is something that I absolutely love to do. While my teachers lecture about oxidative phosphorylation, I watched in fascination, awed at the notion that I now knew how muscles worked. This characteristic cannot be taught at a lecture. This characteristic cannot be created into a tangible item. This characteristic can, however, create a strong relationship. As a healthcare professional, I must be able to gain the trust of my patients, treat them with respect and give them high quality care. Today, I because I possess a strong sense of compassion, I am able to understand situations both emotionally and logically. This allows me to be an excellent problem solver.
