Summer Orchestra
I hate orchestra. Technically I hate anything that I am being made to do and requires a lot of practicing. I am fine with practicing stuff I like, but if I don’t like it, then why would I bother trying to get better at it? This is why I got very annoyed when my mom signed me up to do a thing called Summer Orchestra for 6 weeks in the middle of summer vacation. I already didn’t like orchestra when I had to take it for school, but now I had to wake up early for 6 out of 12 weeks of summer vacation just to go sit for an hour and move my arm back and forth, back and forth! Now I know what you’re thinking, This is so sad! It couldn’t possibly get any worse! RIGHT? Sounds like it’s about as bad as it can get. Nope. At the time I didn’t think about this, but who in their right mind would WILLINGLY give up half their summer to kill their arms holding an instrument and playing for an hour, IF not forced to. The answer; people who like playing music. *Blech*. And do you know what that means? It means that they want to work hard and have a challenge when it comes to songs and music playing. Yuck. The first day I went, my mom pulled up to the curb in front of the Saline High School. I took my cello out of the truck and said goodbye to my mom. “Do I have tooooo?” I whined. “Yes, and you might want to hurry, they are going to start soon.” she said.

We turned into that room, and I saw a bunch of kids older than me sitting in seats warming up. I took an empty seat next to girl that looked like she was in 8th grade (I was going into 6th). She smiled at me, and I started unpacking my cello case. I took out my bow and instrument and kind of awkwardly set up, because everyone in the room seemed older, taller, and better than me. At least I recognized my friend Cami and the teacher, Mr. Briar, who was one of the two Saline Area Schools orchestra teachers in Saline. I was glad about that because he is really
“Hmm… Your ankles are getting stronger. Would you consider going to Patterson's before our next session to purchase a pair of pointe shoes?” she asked, examining at my feet.
Music is virtually everywhere we go, no matter if it is background noise in a coffee shop or singing along while shopping for groceries, we can find music somewhere. The event I attended was the Flint Symphony Orchestra on October 8, 2016. I have never attended a symphony before so I was excited to go, especially since I had invited my friend to attend with me. For this event, I was already informed by my teacher that the symphony will be formal so we needed to look the part since others will be dressed fancy. This made me curious how this event will turn out. Walking past the ticket area and through the doors to the lobby made me feel instantly memorized at how grand it was on the inside. I went downstairs and there were a vast
What thoughts and feelings did you have as a result of the music performance experience?
I have played an intrinsic role in my school’s band and orchestra department through helping organizing performances, teaching classes, and tutoring individuals. On a regular basis, I am responsible for directing and teaching classes including beginning band, with grades ranging from fourth to twelfth, and more advanced ensembles like concert band and marching band. I also play an important role in their performances sometimes by directing and other times by contacting venues to organize dates and times for the shows. I also dedicate time during the week to help beginning players

"Oh", he whispered. "You better get going then or else the boss will be furious."
The Philharmonic Orchestra performed at Lindenwood University Friday March 3rd at 8 O’clock. The Orchestra was under the direction of Robert Hart Baker. I have never attended a live orchestra performance so it was eye-opening to listen to the beautiful sounds that arose from the array of instruments in the orchestra. There were about ninety members and more than half of the members were string players which consisted of a lot of violins, cellos, and basses. Behind the strings sat the brass and woodwind instruments which consisted of trumpets, trombones, tubas, clarinets, flutes and oboes to name several. The percussion section was aside the woodwinds and brass. A choir followed in the last piece played and were placed behind the wood winds and brass.
Music has always been one of things I excelled in. In elementary school it was required to be in music but second in 5th grade you have the option to be in band. I was in band for 6 years before I stopped and I went to 5 honor bands. I played tenor saxophone and was 2nd chair all six years. Jazz band was something we had in middle school and high school. We had 2 jazz bands in middle school. Jazz one was for 8th graders and jazz two was 7th grade. I played in both. My first year I played tenor 1 and 2 and the second year I played baritone saxophone. My 9th grade year I played only tenor one. We didn’t have to audition but the students who plays that instrument normally would have first say in who gets 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd part. That
The cost of being a successful musician is exorbitantly high. One must pay to record in a studio, to put all of his/her music on vinyl records or compact discs, to feed his/herself, etc. Sadly, a career in music will usually not give this person anywhere near the amount of money that he/she needs to survive. People often...
I participate in all these activities because one I absolutely love playing my instrument, but two I am always trying to
Of all the instruments laid out on display, only one caught my attention. I was thirteen at the time, and naturally, my eye was drawn to the shiniest of the group. I had never heard the sound of a flute before, aside from the cheap imitation of one on my family’s electronic keyboard. Nevertheless, I picked the pretty, gleaming, easy-to-carry flute on that first day of band class. Three years later, I can’t imagine playing anything else. What started off as blind luck and an attraction to shiny objects is now a part of my life. Playing an instrument is always a worthwhile investment; you develop a skill that many people only wish they had, you have opportunities to meet other musicians, and you may even get to travel in a band setting. But in order to reap the benefits, you first have to learn how to play.
proper musicians. Are any of you in a band or a pop group? I bet those
Musicians play an instrument, either for a recording or in front of live audiences, and usually choose to play multiple instruments, as well as write their own music (BLS). One will choose to play multiple instruments mainly because that skill will usually make the person more marketable and/or popular (BLS). A musician can also choose to play alone, in a small group, such as a band, or in an orchestra band (BLS). Many times, one will either choose to perform popular music, which draws in more attention than that of the second choice, a classical musician, which usually obtains paychecks more often (Greenwald.)
Playing a musical instrument as a hobby, gives an immense sense of achievement and true satisfaction, in that one can never feel like playing difficult songs or playing it flawlessly. This boosts the ego and enforces sense of self-achievement, which accomplish more in other aspects of life. Playing instrument as a hobby, require regular practice and dedication. Allotting time to practice daily develops discipline in a person. This can be very advantageous to children who, research shows that everything else fails, but music disciplines children-when they are naturally curious and excited about it.
Learning to play any musical instrument, benefits an individual in all aspects of life, whether it 's academically, socially, physically, or emotionally. Instruments that were created to make musical sounds are categorized into five main groups; strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and keyboards. And all it takes is dedication and admiration in order to successfully learn how to play an instrument. I believe that musicians, those who have musical ability, have an advantage over other individuals who don 't have the knowledge to play an instrument. Becoming a musician will also open up so many opportunities that are undeniably gratifying.
