Employee Relations is an integral part of human resources. “Employee Relations involves the body of work concerned with maintaining employer- employee relationships that contribute to satisfactory productivity, motivation and morale. Essentially, Employee Relations is concerned with preventing and resolving problems involving individuals which arise out of or affect work situations.” (www.wfnetwork.bc.edu) The human resource professional requires knowledge and understanding, but they are of a limited value if he or she lacks the competencies to apply them to solving problems. Because employees want to feel good about who they are, what they do and where they work it is important for Human Resource professionals to constantly stay up to date on ways to improve employee relations within an organization or company. Policies, procedures , rules, discipline and employee rights are a couple ways where Human Resource professionals can maintain good employee relations. Human Relations professionals are usually in charge of reviewing and updating the policies, procedures and rules. Policies, procedures and rules are established for many reasons. Some of those reasons are : to comply with state and federal regulations, to improve productivity, to improve profit, to set a standard to be recognized by, for the safety of the employees and individuals within the organization, consistency for day to day operations and fair and honest treatment for each individual. According to www.policy.calpoly.edu, a policy is “The formal guidance needed to coordinate and execute activity throughout the institution. When effectively deployed, policy statements help focus attention and resources on high priority issues - aligning and merging efforts to ac... ... middle of paper ... ... must be noticed in advance that an employee would like to view his or her records. Unauthorized individuals should not have access to employee information. The employee ( or representative of the employee) may view documentation relating to the employee’s qualifications such as the application, promotions, disciplinary actions and transfer papers. Employees may also view their training records and different sign off forms which maybe be related to their job. There are also documents which are not able to be seen by the employee. These documents include things such as reference checks, records of criminal investigation, judicial papers or any document that may contain personal information for other employees. There is a certain procedure for viewing personal information in which the Human Resource personnel must follow to insure they are not violating privacy.
All health care employees will do everything within their power to protect the patient’s right to privacy. This means they will follow the HIPAA law closely. They will disclose information that is relevant to a specialist or treatment. Also, means they will release information that a patient has asked for as promptly as possible.
Policy in my perspective illustrates as a decision making, planning and or action taken to achieve a certain specific goal within our society. According to Longest B. (2010), his definition stated in his text book states that a policy is defined as ” authoritative decisions made in the legislative, executive, or judicial branches of government that are intended to direct or influence the actions, behaviors, or decisions of others.” In developing a policy, certain steps need to be taken in act to implement the policy. The crucial steps in implementing a policy are: recognizing the problem, agenda setting, formulating the policy, and finally implementing the policy (N.A., 2015).
Terms and Laws have gradually change overtime dealing with different situations and economic troubles in the world in general. So then dealing with these issues the workplace has become more complex with little or no rights to privacy. Privacy briefly explained is a person’s right to choose whether or not to withhold information they feel is dear to them. If this something will not hurt the business, or its party members then it should be kept private. All employees always should have rights to privacy in the workplace. Five main points dealing with privacy in public/private structured businesses are background checks, respect of off duty activities/leisure, drug testing, workplace search, and monitoring of workplace activity. Coming to a conclusion on privacy, are there any limits to which employers have limitations to intrusion, dominance on the employee’s behavior, and properties.
According to Easton (1953) a policy is a mass of actions and decisions that attach values to it. A policy advisor uses their expertise to evaluate the policy, based on effectiveness to examine what is working by utilisation of evidence and advises for improvement (Verrelli, 2008). Policy is a broad area of research for the advisor to analyse and suggest how to implement new options and improve the policy (Mayer et al, 2004). However, the advice given may or may not be implemented by the actors involved and as such accountability of the advice must be accepted by the parties involved in the
The central focus of the human relations approaches is human needs within an organization. The evolution of this theory stems from the classical approach. The classical approach centers around the machine metaphor. It highlights the importance of three key elements within an organization: specialization, standardization, and predictability (Miller, 2012: 18-19). In the classical approach, organizations emphasize structure and efficiency; communication is limited within the boundaries of hierarchy and formality. Classical organizations communicate vertically from upper management to employees, often relying on written and formal communication methods (Miller, 2012:
that personnel’s action concerning any employee or applicant for hiring will be taken on the
25 Privacy Rights Clearinghouse (2002) Employee Monitoring: Is There Privacy in the Workplace? . (6/3/2004)
In an ideal world, every person is treated equally when it comes to getting a job, advancing in his or her career and being treated fairly in the workplace. Unfortunately, discrimination still exists in hiring, firing and promotions; and the diversity of the workforce regrettably can cause hostility in the workplace when individuals do not appreciate and respect the differences among themselves and their co-workers.
The topic under review is strategic alliances. This particular form of non-equity alliance between firms in the same industry (competitors) is becoming an increasingly popular way of conducting business in the global environment. Many different reasons of why such alliances are occurring have been recognized. These include: the increasing globalization of the world's economy resulting in intensified global competition, the proliferation and disbursement of technology, and the shortening of product life-cycles. This critique will use Kenichi Ohmae's viewpoint on strategic alliances as a benchmark for comparison. Firstly, a summary of Ohmae's article will be provided. Secondly, in order to critique Ohmae's opinion, it will be necessary to review other literature on the topic. Thirdly, a discussion of the various viewpoints and studies, that have hence arisen, will be discussed in detail. Finally, conclusions will be drawn with implications for companies operating in today's global environment, together with suggestions for future research on strategic alliances.
Policies affect employee privacy by lowering employees' expectations of privacy in the workplace because he or she cannot expected privacy if an employee conducts the activity in a manner open to other employees. If an employee's reasonable expectations are similar to the privacy of personal mail delivered from the post office, he or she may believe the computer are just as private as the documents that he or she stored in the personal workplace's desk or filing cabinet. This reasoning of employee's reasonable expectations violates the employee's privacy. Yet, the employer stands may be that it has a justifiable interest in the oversight of business related employees communications, and in the cost of the used of the computer system. Only through consideration will these two interests will allow the right determination to be determine.
...ir conflicts resolutions and motivations. Some measures which can help a human resource management department to impart equity would include but not limited to competitive salary, fringe benefits, career progression, gender, personal development, promotion etc are few variables which HRM require to look after to keep employees motivated. Through such measures, the companies can reduce the probability of employee dissatisfaction, non compliance with the standards and regulations and hence reduced chances of legal actions.
The relationship between employer and employees plays a pivotal role in the performance of the organization. Employers and employees have certain responsibilities towards each other which facilitate a fair and productive workplace. Positive work relationships create a cooperative climate with effort towards the same goals. Conflict, on the other hand, is likely to divert attention away from organizational performance.
Human resource is the most valuable and unique asset of an organization. The successful management of an organization’s human resource is an exciting, dynamic and challenging task , especially at a time when the world has become a global village and economies are in a state of flux. The lack of talented resource and the growing expectation of the modern day employee has further increased the difficulty of the human resource function.
But, these laws always changing, depending on the work setting or policies set by any specific organizations. Because there are so many different work environments, each claim of privacy has to be evaluated based on the actual conditions of the workplace (Smith & Burg, 2015). This is why policies must be set according to the CEO needs. If the organization does not allow the use of the internet for any personal use, than the employee must follow such guidelines. This eliminates employee privacy right violations, because the policy will informs them of the monitoring during the hiring
The main purpose of Human Resource management is to develop both the individuals and the organization. This means Human Resource is not only responsible for finding and maturing talents of workers, but also putting programs in effect that will enhance communication between other workers.
