Is man naturally good or bad?
According to Hsun Tzu, man is naturally evil. Any kind of goodness associated with man is as a result of conscious activity. Man’s nature is that he or she is usually born with a fondness of profiting from anything he or she does. Tzu says any man is born with feelings on hate and envy of others. In the event man decides to indulge in these feelings, he is likely to end up committing a crime or violence (Meng &Lau, 2003). In such situations, a man’s loyalty and good faith is likely to disappear.
Tzu goes on to claim that man is usually born with fondness for beautiful and lovely sights and sounds. It is for this reason that people spend a large percentage of their earnings on visiting beautiful sites, buying music albums and even attending live music concerts. If a man decides to indulge in these kinds of desires, they are likely to lead him to wantonness thereby leading to him losing ritual principles and correct forms. Here, we clearly see that any man that opts to follow his nature will eventually end up harming others. The harm will be brought about by the wrangles a man will be involved in which will in thereby violating the rules and forms of the society.
