A Scary Good Time
Fall. The leaves are falling, the air is getting brisk, the sense of spookiness surely does not go unmissed. It can be seen throughout town, but Busch Gardens’ Howl-O-Scream is the largest venue around. Howl-O-Scream is Busch Gardens’ alter ego come fall, there are monsters and ghouls inside the park and in haunted houses. Seeing the production as a guest simply puts one in awe, but much more appreciation for the event is felt by the employees. Members of the haunted houses, better known as the Scare Squad, appreciate the fact that they work in a historical park, provide guest with an array of emotions, and create a unique family-like dynamic with fellow cast members.
The name Busch Gardens is derived from its primary developer

Guests can be critical on whether or not the house and actors performed well. They will even have a negative opinion on how they were scared. But the actors do not let one negative comment get in the way of scaring hundreds of other guests. If anything it will make them stride to do better. The emotions change from guest to guest. Some will be high strung, others will be laughing off the scare. The important factor is that they are enjoying their time at Howl-O-Scream. Enjoyment and scaring go hand in hand for scare actors. A scare squad member once said, “It is not a successful night unless a guest has peed themselves out of fear.” This is the motto they live by. The objective is to scare, so there is no better feeling than seeing a park operations employee escorting a person out of the maze because they were too scared. Moments like that really brings the cast together and creates a sense of unity, because they worked together to make that guest …show more content…
That is why scare squad members feel like an extension of family. They start and end the shift together. From warm ups and silly games to putting on makeup and the deathly spray that is barrier spray, they do it all as a unit. Since this is a very physically and mentally taxing job, cast mates and stage managers make it as enjoyable as possible for each other. It could just be little things like mints and chocolate, but it shows that the manager cares and appreciates their employees . A key component of success at Howl-O-Scream is communication. Without communication haunted houses would be even more hectic than what they are now. Talking with cast members about scare tactics can lead to tag team scares, which makes guests twice as terrified. Having that team dynamic produces an experience guests will not
Late autumn has arrived and with it comes the dark magic of Halloween--and, of course, the
Halloween is the time of year that most people loved the idea of being scared beyond belief. But nowadays it’s harder to be genuinely scared because it seems like some people have become accustomed to most horrifying things that relate to Halloween due to the fact that it is the same every year. Nonetheless every year amusement parks use Halloween as a marketing scheme to get people and their friends to come to their horror nights, and spend money on ridiculous overpriced items, which all present the same things; clowns, clowns, chainsaws, and more clowns. Yes we can all agree that clowns are scary, but there has to come a time where the ones coming up with these “horror nights” step back and realize that what they are doing is no longer working anymore. But alas there is someone out there who knows what they’re doing, and it quite possibly could have to do with the fact that they are connected to the movie studio that did invent the horror film genre. But what makes Universal Studios Halloween Horror night so sinister? Universal Studios has a way where they take you out of reality and place you in a horror movie where you encounter many horror mazes, and also by the way they attack your senses in unexpected ways.
Master of Horror Wes Craven continues the Scream films with a adrenaline-filled sequal that is just as fun as the first. With characters from the first Scream and a entire new lineup of characters in Scream 2. You'll be in for a roller coaster ride of thrills and chills making you want more at the end.
To begin with, some people would say they enjoy a horror movie that gets them scared out of their wits. They go see these movies once a month on average, for fun, each time choosing a newer sequel like “Final Destination” or “The evil Dead”. King says “When we pay our four or five bucks and seat ourselves at tenth-row center in a theater showing a horror movie we are daring the nightmare” (405). As a writer of best-sel...
Do you ever wonder what you would do if you were being chased by a zombie? Last October on the weekend before Halloween, I got to find out the answer to that very important question. My friends Ashley, Anna, Vikram, and I decided to go to the Great America Fright Fest. It’s a very unique event where the whole park is decorated for halloween and filled with lots of scary attractions for the entire month. It had been a sweltering day for late October filled with lots of cotton candy and rollercoasters, and as the sun sank lower into the sky the real fun began.
First thing to remember, Humans react to the horror by the amount of fear they have inside of them. In fact, King's short story “Strawberry spring” causes fear to the people because it’s something that would come around every eight years.(Strawberry
SCREAM starts out in the quiet country region of Woodsboro, California. The silence is soon broken by the ringing of a phone coming from the inside of Casey Becker's home. The conversation between Casey and the threatening Voice, eventually leads up to having Casey scared out of her wits and being gutted. Sidney Prescott learns about the murder, and also finds out it was almost as bad as the murder of her mother (Maureen Prescott), which occurred almost a year ago. Randy Meeks, Reporter Gail Weathers, and Deputy Dewey Riley all get mixed up in the story with Sidney. If you want to learn anything else about the movie, go WATCH IT!!!!
The researchers also found that the higher the pitch of a scream (e.g. ambulance siren), the scarier it is. Damage to the amygdala can affect an individual’s ability to process emotion, including fear response. The human amygdala plays “a crucial role in developing fear responses to conditioned threats” (Klumpers, Morgan, Terburg, Stein, & van Honk, 2015). Without the amygdala (or a functioning amygdala), we would not be able to express ourselves through emotions (i.e. facial expressions) nor could we perceive others’ emotions. By expressing ourselves, it allows us to connect and relate to the people around
Scream is no exception. From the very beginning of the movie, sound is present. The movie starts out right away with creepy music in the background as Dimension Films slowly comes out of the darkness. It is followed by a rumble, as if several doors are being shut. While the eerie music is still going the title of the movie is stretched out and comes back together with a loud crash. This is followed by a phone ringing, a heart beating rapidly, a terrifying scream, a knife slicing into something, and finally followed by more screams. The ringing phone ties it into the first scene. The caller picks up the phone and the music, the beating heart, and the screams vanish. This is all done within twenty seconds of the film. Craven has already played on the viewer's senses. There's the apprehension that something bad is going to happen. Another example of sound is in the beginning, when Drew Barrymore's character hangs up the phone for a second time from the mysterious caller. The scene changes to the outside of the house where the camera is focused on some tree branches. There's the sound of some crickets, frogs, etc. In those noises, a creaking sound is heart. The camera travels downward and the viewer sees that it's a swing swaying back and forth that's making the noise. The rope is rubbing against the branch. It creates a feeling of tension because amongst these peaceful night noises is this odd creaking noise. It also leaves the viewer wondering perhaps, is there someone in the tree? Wes Craven is setting these small elements up to scare the viewer. Yet another example of sound being used is when Drew Barrymore (Casey, as her character is known) is talking to the mysterious caller. The caller had already threatened her. She tells him that her boyfriend is coming over and that basically, he'll beat him up. The caller responds with, "His name wouldn't be Steve, would it?" Casey stands stunned as a loud boom
People are addicted to the synthetic feeling of being terrified. Modern day horror films are very different from the first horror films which date back to the late nineteenth century, but the goal of shocking the audience is still the same. Over the course of its existence, the horror industry has had to innovate new ways to keep its viewers on the edge of their seats. Horror films are frightening films created solely to ignite anxiety and panic within the viewers. Dread and alarm summon deep fears by captivating the audience with a shocking, terrifying, and unpredictable finale that leaves the viewer stunned.
All is not lost, however, because there are indeed top-scarers on the job; for example, Sulley is a huge, blue, friendly, and furry monster who can extract screams from children like no other monster. Mike is Sulley’s round and green partner, who has incredible loyalty to Sulley. He is hilarious to watch. Sadly, there is an antagonistic monster who is out to break Sulley’s record of screams whose name is Randall, a cunning character. Randall can change his color to blend into the background instantly, like a color-changing lizard, whose genus’s name escapes the author at the time of this writing. Because this is a workplace, there is an owner. His name is Mr. Waternoose, and he would do anything to keep his factory alive. With these scarers, and Sulley about to break the record, story-telling tradition screams at us that something is about to go wrong.
Would you rather be horrified beyond repair or thrilled to the point of no return? In horror, the main purpose is to invoke fear and dread into the audience in the most unrealistic way. Horror movies involve supernatural entities such as ghosts, vampires, teleportation, and being completely immortal. As thriller films are grounded in realism and involve more suspense, mystery, and a sense of panic. Though both genres will frighten the audience, it will happen in two different ways. Whether the horror thrills or the thriller horrifies, a scare is always incorporated.
Over the years horror movies have become a big part of cinema business. Teenagers and adults like to watch scary movies because of the adrenaline rush. Every scary movie includes unexpected scenes that make the movie interesting and frightening. It is very terrifying that, parents are allowing their children to watch horror movies. This can be very harmful for children’s mental health. Watching really scary movies and cartoons, and even playing scary games, has many lasting side effects on children. When we watch those horror movies with kids, unknowingly we might hurt their feelings. To be more precise, it can easily affect their nervous systems. Unexpected loud scenes in horror movies may scare children easily. Horror movies can create negative
Never ending queues weaved and meandered through the swarm of people away from the attractions in a random route. People, families, boyfriends and girlfriends stand idle and lethargic, waiting in line patiently for the hurricanes of fear and enjoyment to ride upon them, listening to the squeals of both horror and excitement increasing in volume as the ride turns and twists, goes round the loop-de-loop and curves in every direction.
As a result, it makes it an elevating entertaining viewing because of knowing that the characters understand the horror cliches of the acts they should do and shouldn’t do. Additionally, Scream encroaches one of the oldest cinema history rules. It is about the characters who reference or attends to see movies. The characters even know the actor's names like Jamie Lee Curtis as they watch the classic ‘Halloween’. They comment on how
