The jungle From the second we are born, we learn how to survive; the first step to learning how to survive is by taking our first breath. When we enter this world, we enter a jungle of competition, hatred, and backstabbing. The Lord of the Flies shows us all of these qualities in many ways. When we are children we learn survival from a very young age; well at least our parents try to teach us survival at a young age. One example of this is our parents teaching us “Don’t talk to strangers, or else you will be kidnapped and sent to a remote island and have to survive on your own. Another example is we learn the basic skills of survival like boiling an egg, threading a needle, and more. In the poem Childhood by Margaret Walker, it talks about a child living in a rural life. When we learn how to survive in this world, we not only learn basic life skills, but we also learn how to be leaders. Learning to be a leader is probably one of the most basic life skills we learn without realizing it. When we learn to be leaders, it can prepare us for experiences we never knew were possible. For example, growing up as leaders we can be: team captains, class officers, and club board members, and when we get to the workforce bosses, CEOs, vice presidents, presidents, and department chairmen. For example, in Lord of the Flies, Jack and Ralph fight over who has the best leadership to save the group. It is just like in the real world where people fight like animals for the top spot in the workforce. That is just one of many ways that the world is like the jungle.
