Some people in the world are leaders and some are followers. Most people would like to be leaders but
some would just like to go with the crowd. This quote by Elizabeth Kenny explains this: "It's better to be
a lion for a day than a sheep all your life." I think this is a great quote because wouldn't you rather be
bold and courageous like a lion for a day than clueless and being told what to do all the time like a sheep
all your life? A movie called The Hunger Games is a good example for this. The Hunger Games is about a
girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in District 12, a very poor place, and they have an event called
The Hunger Games each year. At the Reaping, they choose a boy and a girl from each District to fight the

Leaders are meant to bring up loyal followers who can assume the lead if they are called to do so. A major driving force for leadership is a mutually agreed upon goal. The Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross, was released in 2012. The film is about a young girl who lives in one of the twelve districts of the Capitol of Panem. To keep these districts from resorting to war like past times, the capitol now forces one girl and one boy to fight to the death until only one remains. Jennifer Lawrence, staring as Katniss Everdeen, has been chosen to represent district 12. The film uses many different elements to display all the emotional and physical struggles Katniss must endure while participating in the games.
The Hunger Games are a systematic way of reminding the citizens of Panem that the Capitol is not to be defied. It is also widely seen as a form of entertainment by the wealthy in the Capitol; the people who are not required to enter the games. Every year, a male and female between the ages of 12 and 18 are ‘reaped’ and chosen to represent their district at the games. The rules of the games are simple, you must be the last survivor; it is a fight to the death. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are the two tributes chosen to represent district 12 at the 74th annual Hunger Games. Katniss did not have her name drawn, rather she volunteered to take the place of the female who had originally been selected; her sister Prim. This act highlights one of the quality personality traits Katniss possesses; selflessness.

In a not-too-distant, some 74 years, into the future the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 13 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games; these children are referred to as tributes (Collins, 2008). The Games are meant to be viewed as entertainment, but every citizen knows their purpose, as brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts. The televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eradicate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. The main character throughout the series is a 16-year-old girl from District 12 named Katniss Everdeen.
The movie “The Hunger Games” has many similarities and relations to World Mythology. While it may not seem like this movie is as myth related as others, such as Troy and Thor, many of the themes and situations in the movie were inspired by the stories of the great myths and epics. The overall theme of the movie is courage, strength, and destiny.
Everyone has a different definition of what makes someone a leader. My definition is not a statement of requirements, but more so a list of characteristics. I believe it takes a strong, independent, dependable, open-minded, thoughtful, selfless, smart and creative, someone who can work well with others, able to work under pressure, respectful, and experienced individual to be a leader. I believe it is someone who knows who they are and know their morals, someone who has already found who they are in life and accepts who they are, making what I believe the most important characteristic is, is someone who knows and sticks with their personal values. If someone cannot respect values and stick to their word, then how can they be a leader of others? A leader takes a lot of work, but if you are good at it, it may seem like nothing. Some people are leaders and do not even know it, like role models. When little kids look up to certain people that have impacted their lives in a way, they will see those people as role models. Truth is, leaders are everywhere and not everyone knows or can see that. It's not always the person who stands out for taking control or being bossy, but the one with the characteristics and high values that do the right things, even when no one is watching.

Twelve oppressed Districts rose up against an oppressive Capitol, and the end result of this civil war was a Capitol victory (Hunger Games).
