I've decided to base this research and project on the Carolingian Empire. For reference, the Carolingian empire was the dynasty of the Frankish aristocrats between 750 to 887 CE. Through these medieval times the Carolingian Empire thrived and ruled over countries such as France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Spain and Austria. The Carolingian Empire (Britannica 2024) formed through the combined power of the Pepins and Arnulfing houses, and it rose to popularity in France during the 8th century after its political predecessor, the Merovingian Dynasty (458-751) fell. Norse Invaders, known for their shipping skill, targeted the coastal regions of France, Germany and the Netherlands. These invasions caused damage to the locals as well as interrupting trade routes and harmed agricultural productivity. The Caroligian empire was already dealing with internal political conflict but still fought to protect their boundaries and keep peace. The attacks greatly damaged the authority of the empire. One honorable mention I must include with these three significant events in the coronation of Ruler Charles the Great (Chalemagne). As we can see, he was a large part of the success of the Carolingian Empire. After his military successes in expanding the empire he joined many scholars during the Carolingian Renaissance and expanded the education, art, and landscaping of the empire.
