My service hours, pushing Jalen around, has remarkably impacted my life. This year I have helped Jalen around campus. Joseph, Anould, Jalen and I have become very good friends just because I helped push him around school.
I have been pushing Jalen around campus and enjoyed it as well. Joseph, Arnold and I give up a lot of our time to push Jalen around. We thoroughly enjoy it and gain explicit memories, considering he has become our friend through all of our hardships. We have a lot of fun together; this has been a pinnace of my life story. I have premeditated on that thought, and I have decided that this has been one of the best schools I have ever been to. One time we got locked out on our way to lunch and we could not get in either building. Another fun memory was when we could not find his wheelchair. When we finally found it, it was in the maintenance room. When we finally found it, it was in the maintenance room. We push him around all day, every day of the week.

When I am helping Jalen, I get this great feeling that says that I did what I am supposed to be doing-help Jalen around school.
I feel helpful because I assist him in what he cannot do on his own. I think that that is why I am at this school this year at this exact time. The thing that makes it so much easier to do is that he shows that he is appreciative of us helping him. I have been blessed tremendously by this experience. They have become very excellent friends and I am really going to miss them. I feel like I did something important. They are really good
friends. One question that I keep asking myself is, “why do I want to serve?” Then I realized that one of the main reasons I want to serve is because the Bible says to maintain a servant's heart. We need to live as the Lord Jesus Christ lived. He came and lived for us not man. We need to live as he lived. God created us to take care of each other. When we do serve others, we should feel good. I am really trying hard to have a servant's heart. In conclusion, we need to serve others as Jesus served us. He died on the cross for our sins, even though he did not have to. He died on the cross so we do not have to die and we can have eternal life. To me this divine Bible story of Jesus saving us does not get musty. I challenge you to serve someone else this week.

I have been able to help several friends and neighbors do better in math classes and on the ACT. Unexpectedly, I was also able to help one of my assistant baseball coaches who was studying at a local college to be a teacher. He asked for my help to pass a math test required for his teaching license because of my recent success in standardized test and math competitions. I was glad to oblige and am proud to say he is now a teacher at my school. I equate service with helpfulness—assisting others. I help both my school community by answering questions and giving feedback and my community as a whole through my volunteer activities, the most enjoyable of which has been Habitat for Humanity.
There were quite many relations made between my service learning experiences and themes addressed in the course. Some of the connections were about human self-respect, unity, and fairness. The social ties hold people together and can support the people who do not have the power to help each other. It was interesting for me to employ my skills and knowledge I learned in the classroom to serve those who need help.
Over the years I have been very involved in my community and school. Being a part of something helps to define who you are as a person and the principles and values you hold as important. A personal experience that helps to show my talents and skills can be illustrated by my trip to Italy last April with the MHS Language Department.
People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have.
After joining however I quickly realized the difference I could make in someone’s life by simply donating a few hours of my time. The school children I mentor 2-3 times a week are one of the greatest delights. Many of them do not receive any one on one time with another individual except for when I am tutoring them. These children have such great potential if only their parents and other adults around them would take the time to see it. It fills me with great satisfaction knowing that I am making a difference in those who one day may be leading this
There were three significant activities from my hours of volunteering that have dramatically influenced my perception of service. These include scheduling my hours of service, my orientation to the project, and my interaction with other volunteers. Not all of these experiences were positive.
Picture this, it was about twelve o’clock in the afternoon when my brother and I went outside to play. We decided it would be cool to build a cool tree house in our front yard. So, we went to work right away. We grabbed a 2 by 4 with me on one side and him on the other, carrying it above our heads to the fort to be. Tyler happened to let his side down and me, not being strong enough at all, let the piece of wood slip out of my hands and it landed dead center on my head. My mom came running outside to my crying as I passed out. Even though Tyler didn’t support me in this situation, he does now. With him supporting me, being the strongest person I know, and him always being there for me has made me who I am today. Without him, I don’t know where I’d be.
When it comes to participating in service, I did food and friends twice with Ms. Fitzsimmons for the couple months I have been with Gonzaga. I spent most of my time in a first grade classroom. In this classroom I observed the children as well as the teacher and paraprofessional. This classroom had children with special needs and that is why there was a paraprofessional in the classroom for half the day. What I observed in this classroom was how children with special need should be handle and taught. The teachers in this room loves her job and each student in her class. While in the classroom the teacher allowed me to help with children with their work, read to them and help them with anything else that they needed. During this field experience I got to give back to not only a school, but to a community that is very near and dear to my heart. In the beginning of his sophomore year, the knee problems came back, and with a vengeance. He had to leave school again after the first quarter. It was saddening to have to miss him again. But some of my fondest memories of this year were when three of us stormed his house as a trio and dragged him out to take him to movies, parties, etc. The feeling of completion that he brings to our circle really reinforces my feelings that we're all the best of friends.
