My current job as a research assistant has provided me with the opportunity to work as part of a team to achieve shared goals as well as to receive and provide feedback from other team members. Social skills and cultural competence are other competencies that I continue to strengthen. In the last 10 months, I have been able to interact with cultures and perspectives new to me which I have learned to appreciate, understand and respect. As a potential medical professional, my main drive is to alleviate others’ distress and help others, and through my current job and as a volunteer I have been able to help others locally and globally in a direct or indirect way. Finally, these experiences continue to strengthen different important skills in the medical field such as ethical responsibility, resilience, responsibility, continuous improvement, adaptability, and
I want to approach my career with the best possible qualifications. Moreover, as a woman, I feel I will be an excellent role model for other ambitious healthcare professionals. Having been born in the Philippines and raised in the United States, I feel that I possess a level of cultural awareness, as well as a sensitivity for the different needs of minorities that will help me within the field. In addition, I feel that the US healthcare system needs people like myself who are bilingual and can communicate effectively with people of different backgrounds given the influx of diverse

One important detail of my future I would share with myself is about all the different hospitalizations I had. During these hospitalizations for surgery, I had met a Child Life specialist. I would explain that a Child Life specialist is a person who works with pediatric patients to help them understand what is going on around them in the hospital. When explaining to myself about the duties of a child life specialist, they use different treatment methods such as, therapeutic play, talking to the child and family about a procedure, distraction during medical procedures, and medical education. I would remind myself that the staff at Mayo, Clinic has done those things with you, and it really helps you get through a rough time and not be so scared or anxious next time. I would explain that a Child Life specialist works with children to help with the emotional part of the hospital stay. While explaining my career choice, I would show myself that a child life specialist is educated in the field of Child Development to help a wide range of children, teens, and young
I had the immense pleasure of completing a summer internship with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in the amazing city of Kingston, Jamaica. UNICEF is a leading humanitarian and development agency, working globally for the rights of every child, with specific focus on safety and shelter, nutrition, protection from disaster, conflict and changing the life cycle: pre-natal care, clean water and sanitation, health care and education (UNICEF, 2016). UNICEF also lobbies and partners with government, leaders and policy makers to help all children realize their rights (UNICEF, 2016). Most of UNICEF 's work is in the field, in over 190 countries and territories.
The care we deliver helps the individual person and improves the health of the whole community. Compassion is how care is given through relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity. Competence is the ability to understand an individual’s health and social needs and the expertise, clinical and technical knowledge to deliver effective care and treatments based on research and evidence. Communication is the key to a good workplace with benefits the people they are caring for and for the co workers. Courage enables us to do the right thing for the people we care for, to speak up when we have concerns and to have the personal strength and vision to innovate and to embrace new ways of working. Commitment is vital to show we mean the best for those we are caring for, it helps gain trust (“The 6Cs.”). I apply to a lot of the “6Cs.” I have great communication skills, I am caring, compassionate, courageous, and am very committed once I start
Listening to people, trying to understand their stories and struggles is something that I have always deeply revered. I love learning about different cultural backgrounds and working with a diverse patient base. Working in different settings I have learned how to use these qualities as my strengths to give my patients the best care possible.

I am the kind of person who likes to be in an environment that doesn’t change to often. I’m not a fan of jumping into something new. Adapting to change is one of the hardest things for me and it is the one thing that I need to work on the most. Change happens all around us every day and I need to learn how to deal with it. Change can be good. Change can be bad. It’s just what I’m going to have to work on to become a better leader.
Personality is the study of an individual’s unique and relatively stable patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving over time and across situations and it is what distinguishes one individual from another. In the past changes in personality were thought to have only occurred in the developmental stages of childhood and solidifies in adolescence. After the teenage years it was thought to be set like plaster or the change seen to be inconsequential or absent( Srivastava, John, Gosling, and Potter, 2003). However, recent studies have suggested that changes in personality traits continue to occur throughout an individual’s lifespan due to multiple reasons.
5 years ago I sat in Muir Middle School with my friends and classmates talking about television shows we watched the night before and plans for that weekend. I didn 't have a job, and my only responsibility was taking care of myself and doing my school work. I never thought that my life could be dramatically changed in a short period of 5 years. 5 years full of events and lessons. I am now 18 years old and my personality, hobbies and appearance are all very different now.
More specifically, I wanted to increase my understanding concerning the role knowledge and experience have on nursing and the way in which nursing affects the community around it. For example, a day as a nurse is ever changing, from the patient supply to the randomness of patient situations and the choice of choosing how to approach those unfamiliar predicaments. Nursing would challenge me to think on my feet in a moment’s notice and thrive in diverse or educational opportunities, always adapting to new environments. Furthermore, nursing is one of those jobs appreciated by those too weak, defenseless, or sick to help themselves, where personable treatment and human interaction is needed. It takes one thing to be knowledgeable and experienced, but another thing entirely to apply emotions and feelings to treatment, such as intimate contact with others, or attentiveness and sensitivity to their needs. I want to be able to channel both my knowledge and experience on a daily basis and apply it to my career of not only helping others, but also advancing the community in which patients experience medical
In relation to social transformation I have gathered materials that focusses on programs provided for ‘refugees’ living in New Zealand. The purpose of my findings are based on the societies support for ‘refugees’ in terms of human security and directions of life before settling in their new destination. There are stories about ‘refugees’ that need to be shared and stories that need to be forgotten, because it can produce controversy within the society or the universe. But where can these ‘refugees’ go if the place they call home is unsafe or too risky for the lives of their families and for themselves. It’s hard enough to migrate into a new country, but it is devastating for refugees who have experienced the loss of homes and loved ones.
Many things change but how many things change a man? My life has had its ups
