Critical Preface As somebody who always played sports until my senior year in high school, the connection with something that I always like, it is really huge. I would always argue with anyone who would try to say anything bad about sports. As a former athlete I want to know what kind of effects does sports have in ourselves, whether they help your body and brain or not.
Some people believe that by doing sports you can stay in a good shape and a healthy brain. Sports had become a big part of our society. After having done some research on sports, I believe that they help your brain, it can help to boost up your memory and productivity.
We as people we only view things from different perspective and sometimes we disbelieve what we haven’t experience yet. Sports can be really great help for students because it is more than an activity, it is a guide through your journal. This will allow the students to participate and perform better in the schools and in their jobs. Some people have to really view sports as something that can really help them as a human being is all ways because it also has a high percentage of decreasing crime because they are doing something that is worth for them. If more people take sports seriously, this society would be a better place to live. People could get a clue of what sports can do for them, they will have a higher performance rate in the sports and a higher chance of getting to the point where they want to be.

Participation in sports has proven to increase self-discipline and self-esteem, and can teach athletes to learn from their mistakes and move on (Issitt). Athletes playing team sports also develop the ability to work well with others and use teamwork in their everyday lives. Teammates form relationships that are strengthened over a common passion and goal. These relationships can last long after high school is over (Chen). These social skills translate into better communication used with an athlete’s family, peers, and in the community. Likewise, “A 2006 study in Maryland found that student athletes are 15 percent more likely than non athletes to be involved in their communities and to take the time for civic engagements, including participating in voting and volunteer activities” (Issitt). The same study also concluded that athletes are far more likely to be comfortable with public speaking than non-athletes. I think of everything they’ve taught me: camaraderie, humility, how to resolve differences.” At most high schools in America, sports a part of the curriculum to teach students useful life skills to prepare them for their educational outcomes. High school athletics have a significantly important impact on students by teaching them social skills, responsibility, and determination. First, high school sports are positive because learning how to work well with others prevents situational conflicts.
Several researches have revealed that physical exercise has relieved many people from symptoms of anxiety and depression. During physical activity and exercise, the body produces a type of chemical called “serotonin”, a chemical that aids while dealing with anxiety, stress and depression. Studies also have shown that people who participate in sports results in higher self- esteem and a more positive self- image. Many studies made conclusions that adolescents and students who take part in sports and physical activities tend to have positive and higher self esteem than students who do not play sports and often tend to result better in academic performances at school.

People may say that students may get distracted by sports. However, sports can boost self esteem, make a student stay healthy, and let a student have fun in school. The benefits of sports range from physical, mental, and social. Exercise keeps people fit, develops healthy muscle tone, and reduces heart and lung problems (Oak, Manali). Sports studies have shown that “youth are motivated and engaged in ways that do not happen regularly in any other parts of their lives. Even though I did not truly understand all the mechanics of the game, I met new friends and began to develop motor skills.
