Thomas Edison’s mother highly influenced him by being a very considerate mother, who constantly encouraged her son to read books. And helped him discover many different kinds of knowledge, which aided him, in his older years, to strive to become an excellent, vigorous, and robust inventor.
Out of Thomas Edison’s many influences, his mother had the most dominant impact on his life, of inventing. Out of the many things she taught him of, the two most important were the “ Three R’s ” and to read and cherish the bible. The “ Three R’s ” refer to the most basic skills needed in all levels of education. That alludes to reading, writing, and arithmetic. He would give Thomas Edison ten cents for every classic he read. That was another starting point of Thomas Edison’s love of reading. His favorite books were on Shakespeare, and other English literature, such as. Thomas Edison’s father also transplanted his love of world history, reading, reciting, and poetry. His father also taught him that taking risks was okay. Thomas Edison’s father was always energetic, and never gave up when any of his businesses failed. He would brush himself off, and begin a new business. Thomas Edison was also like his father. One time in the middle of winter, his lab stove froze and many of his expensive chemicals froze. Another time chemicals that were not protected, were damaged by the sun. But Thomas Edison would never feel sorry for himself, he would stop whatever he was doing and solve the problem that had been made. In the midst of inventing, Thomas Edison said, “ Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. ” That meant that being smart isn't about having a good idea, it’s all about working hard, and never giving up on what you believe
