Richard Florida’s The Rise of the Creative Class and Joy Malnar and Frank Vodvarka’s Sensory Design
Of all my positive attributes, creativity is not one of them. I think of creativity as the ability to come up with new things, using one’s imagination to create beauty, induce laughter, and/or provoke emotion. My jokes are always corny, my drawing skills are comparable to a toddler’s, and I suck at telling stories. “Creative” definitely does not describe me.
Richard Florida, in The Rise of the Creative Class, describes creativity as a separate entity from intelligence, and I totally agree. He also describes it as something acquired through experience. I have always been a nerd, but that doesn’t make me a creative genius—and my tunnel vision hasn’t helped either. Florida mocked me with these words: “Creativity is favored by an intellect that has been enriched with diverse experiences and perspectives.”
I thought that creativity was something you were born with, and that I just wasn’t present when God was giving it out. Florida describes that theory as the “romantic myth of creative genius,” and says that creativity is inherent in all people. Ordinary abilities foster creativity. I never thought of it that way.
Richard Florida also goes on to say that creativity is energy-absorbing, tiring work. To come to think of it, it can be very laborious. My husband likes to design clothing, and sometimes he stares into space for hours daydreaming. Suddenly, he’d sprint into the bedroom, grab his notebook and start drawing. He could eat up a whole pencil, eraser and all, for that one drawing. Beads of sweat would form on his brow, and the nerve in the middle of his forehead would protrude. And I’d know to keep our daughter away and leave him at peace. You see, I think my husband is creative. He’s got a great sense of humor, and he’s an artist.
Geniuses like Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison were not only smart, but they also devised new theories, solved mathematical mysteries, and pioneered new gadgets.

The main challenge is to determine how Panera Bread can continue to achieve high growth rates in the future. Panera Bread is operating in an extremely high competitive restaurant market which forces the company to improve and to grow steadily for staying profitable. The company’s mission statement of putting “a loaf of bread in every arm” is just underlying Panera’s commitment for growing. They are now in a good financial situation and facing growth rates of up to 20% per year in a niche market that has a great growth potential. In the next 7 years the fast-casual market is expected to grow by 500% in sales to a total of $30 billion.
Albert Einstein, Bela Bartok, Alan Turing, Bill Gates, Thomas Jefferson and I. Is this a list of Geniuses? People who have changed history?
Throughout Shakespeare?s play, Hamlet, the main character, young Hamlet, is faced with the responsibility of attaining vengeance for his father?s murder. He decides to feign madness as part of his plan to gain the opportunity to kill Claudius. As the play progresses, his depiction of a madman becomes increasingly believable, and the characters around him react accordingly. However, through his inner thoughts and the apparent reasons for his actions, it is clear that he is not really mad and is simply an actor simulating insanity in order to fulfill his duty to his father.

The Panera Bread Company began in 1981 as Au Bon Pain Co., Inc. Founded by Ron Shaich and Louis Kane, the company thrived along the east coast of the United States and internationally throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s and became the dominant operator within the bakery-café category. In the early 1990’s, Saint Louis Bread company, a chain of 20 bakery-cafes were acquired by the Au Bon Pain Co. Following this purchase, the company redesigned the newly acquired company and increased unit volumes by 75%. This new concept was named Panera Bread. Top management chose to sell their previous bakery-café known as Au Bon Pain Co. due to the financial and managerial needs of Panera. In order for Panera to become the success top management visualized all resources needed to become available for Panera. Panera Bread is now the most successful bakery-café in the category in which there are currently 1,777 bakery-cafes in 45 states and in Ontario Canada (Panera Bread).
Panera Bread is a US food chain featuring bakery products, sandwiches and salads. They are a bakery-cafe in a fast casual restaurant setting. Panera Breads mission statement is "A loaf of bread in every arm". Panera bread also has a "bread leadership goal": "With the single goal of making great bread bread broadly available to consumers across America, Panera Bread freshly bakes more bread each day than any bakery-cafe concept in the country. Started its company in 1981 as Au Bon Pain Co. Inc. Founder Louis Kane and Ron Shaich expanded there along the east coast of the United States and started expanding internationally in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1993, Au Bon Pain Co. Inc. purchased a local bread company in the Saint Louis area, Saint Louis Bread Company. The company then managed a comprehensive re-staging of the Saint Louis Bread Company. Ultimately the concept's name was changed to Panera Bread. By 1997 it was clear that Panera Bread had the potential to become one of the leading brands in the nation.
...nced, the information our subconscious soaks up. Creativity is what combines our consciousness with our subconscious, which helps us with things such as problem solving, strategizing, and art.
Most people in America find themselves drinking a nice glass of water that has a clean and refreshing taste to it. Most people do not have the privilege of drinking safe water. Contaminated drinking water has been linked to illnesses and deaths within the United States each year. We can solve this problem by finding new ways to clean water such as filtration and using diluted chlorine. Using these methods can lead to a much healthier way of living for those who suffer from contaminated drinking water in the United States. Contaminated water can be classified as water that contains pathogens, mercury, and even arsenic.
Thomas Alva Edison was considered one of the greatest inventors and industrial leader. He had over 1000 inventions but none greater then his ability to develop a system that would provide people with a wide safe stable and efficient light and power. This also lead to other countries such as Europe and South America to follow this wonderful invention that modernized the world forever.
What exactly is creativity? To be creative is to understand and connect the small details of our experiences, both good and bad (creative something). Creativity involves a person using his or her original ideas to create something. Artists such as poets, writers, painters, designers, and more use creativity on a regular basis. They use creativity to come up with new ideas and create original works of art. A poet would use his or her creative abilities to write and produce a poem just like a painter would use creativity to paint a painting.
There have been many inventions throughout the centuries that benefit mankind in terms of comfort, speed, efficiency, and reliability. Whether it is the creation of wood and stone weapons in the Stone Age or a device that transmits thoughts to other people in the future, inventions are made to serve people. One man in particular, Thomas Edison, revolutionized the world we live in with his many inventions. Through his success and failures, Edison was able to successfully create inventions to better the human race. By working with DC current, creating multiple inventions, and obtaining patents, Thomas Edison can be seen as the greatest inventor in the world.
Since we are born we have imagination and as we grow up this imagination may increase or decrease. Creativity strongly relies in our imagination. Depending on different circumstances people learn to express their creativity openly while other people close themselves and believe they do not have creativity. Creativity is a natural talent that every single human has. Creativity can be used to solve a complex problem in a different manner or just to find innovative ways to have fun. Creativity is thinking out of the box. Even though creativity cannot be taught from scratch there should be a class that is specific for creativity.
I am creative. I love to be given a problem and try to fix it. I have to come up with many ways to end up with the solution. Most of the time I do not even solve the problem, but I still know a little more than I did, therefore, I have more experience for the future. Also, I love to be given materials and build anything. Most of the time what I build does not work, or it is ugly, or never even gets close to the final product. I have no idea what I am doing, I just keep trying different methods and find out if it works. I am creative because I play three instruments. One of them is new, and I am not very good at it. I need to be creative when I try to figure out the chords and the instrument methods. I am creative because I like to crochet. I love to have yarn and then make a final product. It amazes me that one long strand of yarn can be knotted and become a beautiful blanket, hat, or mittens. Granted, some of my creations are not that great, but it was enjoyable to even be able to try. Finally, I am creative
