The Nazi empire was one of the most brutal regimes in history and was ruled with an iron fist (Third Reich: An Overview). All of the Nazi empire was controlled by an evil man named Adolf Hitler. Most of the soldiers were loyal and obedient to Hitler; carrying out atrocities, including the murder of millions of mainly Jewish people. Even though most were loyal, some of the officers stood up to Hitler’s reign (The History Place - Defeat of Hitler: Running out of Time). The few that had stood up to Hitler were some of the German generals in the Wehrmacht who had enough of Hitler; and had plotted and tried to carry out the assassination of him.

In addition to losing hope in Hitler as a leader, they were opposed to Hitler’s ideologies. Most of the Wehrmacht generals were disgusted with Hitler’s actions (Fact Behind Fiction). One of the main conspirators of the plot, Klaus von Stauffenberg, had disliked Hitler’s murderous actions and had believed that Hitler had ruined Germany’s honor. Not only did Stauffenberg believe that Hitler had ruined Germany’s honor, he had believed that Hitler had ruined Germany’s reputation too. However, this was highly unusual for a person like Stauffenberg to dislike Hitler (The History Place - Defeat of Hitler: Running out of Time). Operation Valkyrie was supposed to be an emergency plan set in place by Hitler to prevent public unrest. The reason for the plan was that there were many slave laborers in Berlin at the time and if there would be a revolt they would be prepared. If any other sort of scenario like a revolt happened, then the military would help keep order while the government tried to respond to the problem immediately. Instead of using the plan as it was intended, Stauffenberg hijacked the plan. He had used the plan to convince everyone in the Wehrmacht that Hitler was dead, then announced that anyone loyal to Hitler was behind the plot. In doing so, while all of the Nazi party members were imprisoned, the conspirators would establish a new government without the Nazis to save Germany from being destroyed. The first step of the operation had called for the Reserve Army to be initiated. The Army then began to seal off designated government quarters. The conspirators could now mobilize the army since Hitler was dead. Once the soldiers had sealed off the government quarters, they began to arrest people (Chen). Since Hitler was presumed dead, Friedrich Olbricht was the one in charge of the Reserve Army. The tide then started to turn against the conspirators. Many of the Reserve Army soldiers had
