For years, society has been led to believe that Hitler died in his Berlin bunker, but did he
actually escape to South America? It has been proven that many other high ranking Nazis have
escaped to countries in South America, such as Argentina and Brazil, so it is no surprise that
Hitler too could have escaped. Many know only the accepted cause of Hitler’s death, and they
are not aware of the evidence that hints he could have escaped to South America. However,
there are other theories that hint towards a different outcome of Hitler’s life, theories that have
more evidence. It is very hard to believe that lower ranking Nazis, such as Adolf Eichmann,
escaped, yet they allowed Adolf Hitler, who practically built the Third Reich, to kill himself in
his Berlin bunker.
As World War II was ending, many Nazis were forced to flee their homeland for
Argentina, which welcomed many Nazis with open arms. In fact, Juan Peron, then President of
Argentina, was pro Fascist. Peron went as far as sending Argentine agents to Europe just to help
Nazis escape from the Allies (Nelson). According to Sharkhunters, Hitler and his wife, Eva
Braun, were witnessed by a Spanish spy“being forcibly drugged and removed from the
Führerbunker under orders from Martin Bormann.” Martin Bormann and other high ranking
Nazis knew that Hitler would be tried and executed as a war criminal. If Hitler was a symbol of
the Reich, then why would his comrades let him kill himself?
Hitler knew that the Allies would be looking for him, so he not only fled Germany to
Argentina, but he also went to other South American countries, such as Paraguay and Brazil.

Adolf Hitler was a horrible man that killed many Jews, because he thought it was the right thing to do. Reading, “Hitler’s Last Days” by: Bill O'Reilly, and multiple other reliable sources has made me believe and want to spread the word that the World would have been much better off if Hitler had faced the consequences of his actions. Many people of all backgrounds and opinions also strongly support this fact. Hitler knew he was going to die, either way and he decided to take his life rather than becoming a Russian prisoner. I mean just imagine all the good it would brought the world if he had faced the consequences. Hitler would have become a Russian slave and we would have gained more information through him, the World War II would’ve been won, and Hitler would’ve got his just desert.
He was imprisoned from 1876-1890 by Mexican dictator Porfirio Diaz. He was released, but died 2 years later in his home town of Tamaulipas. (PBS, 2001)
“And so he remained for more than half an hour, lingering between life and death, writhing before our eyes.” If the Nazis were ok with “hanging a child in front of thousands of onlookers”, who knew what they were capable of?
Occurring in 1942, the Germans believe they have built an ‘escape proof’ camp in which they plan to house their most troublemaking prisoners. What they do not realize, is that they have put all of their greatest masterminds in one place and allowed them to speak to one another. If unable to escape, the prisoners believe it is their job to make the German officials pay as much attention to their confinement as possible and away from other military expenditures. Unlike previous escape plans from the past, Royal Air Force Squadron Leader, Bartlet, plans a massive escape of 250 men through a series of tunnels.

Since the Nazi’s had been in Argentina in 1946, and the short story was written in 1946, Julio Cortazar could have made a connection to the invasion of Nazi’s in Argentina.

If you have been in a History class you have probably heard of an event that happened after World War Two called the Nuremberg Trials. These trials were conducted by the United States. Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson was appointed to lead the trials (Berenbaum). During these trials they charged with Crimes against the Peace, War crimes and Crimes against Humanity (Berenbaum). Many major Nazi leaders committed suicide before officials could hang them or before even being caught. The famous Doctor Goebbels killed his children then him and his wife committed suicide (Berenbaum). Only twelve out of the twenty-two who stood trial were hanged, twelve, while the rest just got prison time. Besides major Nazi officials, Physicians were put on trial, the people who were part of the mobile killing squads, Concentration camp officials, Judges and Executives who sold concentration camps Zyklon B. You can expect that they had many excuses, but m...
In a newspaper, normally more important news is published on the front page, except during the times of the Holocaust. Due to the fact the Times’ did not publish the stories on the front page of the paper and rather ‘hid’ them within the pages made it difficult for Americans to find the facts and understand their importance (Leff 51). The Times’ ran 1,147 stories which averaged to about seventeen stories a month (Leff 52). Within six years the Times’ only featured six stories that mentioned Hitler’s target; the Jewish race. The New York Times was the primary source for wartime news. When they neglected the events of the Holocaust it affected the judgment of other news sources as well (Max Frankel).
Many of the alleged Nazi war criminals that were captured had attempted to evade prosecution shortly before the end of the war. Some opted for suicide, rather than risk capture while others used the Austrian and German Underground offers of fake passports and other means of forged identification to assume a new identity . A choice opted for by many, that virtually guaranteed them a new life with remote chance of detection was to travel to the Anglo-American countries after immigration quotas were raised. Over 4000 Nazi criminals sought refuge in Australia . Many lied about their history to gain entry into their new home and proceeded to blend in, unnoticed by our government. They were no longer Nazi criminals but new citizens with a hidden past. Lists of suspected criminals were compiled and alleged perpetrators systematically captured and put to trial.
He then went into exile in Mexico, where he trained and assembled the 26th of July Movement. He gained support from Che Guevara and others before leaving aboard the Granma to invade Cuba in 1956.
When the infamous Hitler began his reign in Germany in 1933, 530,000 Jews were settled in his land. In a matter of years the amount of Jews greatly decreased. After World War II, only 15,000 Jews remained. This small population of Jews was a result of inhumane killings and also the fleeing of Jews to surrounding nations for refuge. After the war, emaciated concentration camp inmates and slave laborers turned up in their previous homes.1 Those who had survived had escaped death from epidemics, starvation, sadistic camp guards, and mass murder plants. Others withstood racial persecution while hiding underground or living illegally under assumed identities and were now free to come forth. Among all the survivors, most wished not to return to Germany because the memories were too strong. Also, some become loyal to the new country they had entered. Others feared the Nazis would rise again to power, or that they would not be treated as an equal in their own land. There were a few, though, who felt a duty to return to their home land, Germany, to find closure and to face the reality of the recent years. 2 They felt they could not run anymore. Those survivors wanted to rejoin their national community, and show others who had persecuted them that they could succeed.
Adolf Hitler escaped to Argentina after faking his death in Germany. There is a CIA file that states that Hitler did escape Germany for Argentina. An article about a classified CIA file states,“He also stated that HITLER left-Colombia for Argentina around January 1955”(Mills). In this quote a CIA agent explained some of the things a friend of Hitler's told him. The friend was reliable, and he explained that Hitler had fled Germany to South America. In South America he lived in Colombia until he moved to Argentina where he spent the rest of his life. World War 2 ended in 1945, meaning Hitler was in Colombia for ten years before fleeing to Argentina.
