The movie I chose to review and write this paper on is- called Hotel Rwanda. When this movie is takes, place is when some of the worst atrocities in the history of mankind took place in the country of Rwanda. It was the beginning era of high-speed communication and the twenty-four-hour news station, where most of the events went unnoticed by the rest of the world. The movie is about an event where around One million people are brutally murdered and this one man has the courage to save over one thousand refugees, by granting them shelter in the hotel he manages. This movie must be able to be filmed in the environment where this horrible event took place and Terry George who directed and produced this film knew of the importance.

One critic states that “Unfortunately, George’s attempt at it is too mired in movie-of-the-week sensibilities, in flat-out bad storytelling to do any justice to its subject matter. I couldn’t believe how visually insipid this movie was–it looked like a “B” movie from the 80s, absolutely uninspired and, even on the level of cinema, a total travesty.” While another critic states that a weakness of this film is the ending to Hotel Rwanda is too Hollywood like and that it could have done without. Another weakness that critics have said is that the Terry Georges script takes no risks and that the production was cheap even though they shot on location of the events that took place. The strengths of this film that one critics have stated are that the actors are never less than believable and that you can feel what Paul and his wife are going through. One critic states that the film “relies on its audience to connect the dots and ask who the real villain was. The answer might leave them feeling more uncomfortable that any graphic violence could have.” which is very significant because a movie that is also compared to this movie which is “Schindler’s List” by Steven Spielberg there is a given enemy of that being the Nazis but the villain here makes the audience try and connect the dots.
