The feedback that I received from these questionnaires outlined that all learners felt that they were given time to effectively carry out the home practice. Issues such as ‘life’, ‘time’, ‘no issues with the children’ and ‘issues with the children in placement’ were all outlined as barriers that prevented them from completing their home practice effectively. Cooper, Lindsay, and Nye, 2000 highlight ‘’In recent years homework has been once again viewed by many as an inconvenience and intrusion into family life and as an impediment to a full and active social life’’. As teacher, I need to be mindful that the implementation of home practice can be another source of added pressure and anxiety to me my learners. Reflection is given to Bloom’s Taxonomy …show more content…
Warmen 2006 outlined ‘’How the programme is delivered and the social climate that is established is highly significant and related to positive training outcomes’’. As well as attention to the group processes my role is also to model the skills and qualities that my teaching aims to develop in my learners. I aim to achieve this by praising and rewarding carers for their efforts and successes. This approach reflects BF Skinners operant conditioning approach of consequences or praise as a way of extinguishing undesired behaviours and promoting desired behaviour. I have therefore introduced the use of a reward chart within the group. As this is a programme whereby the use of praise, positive reinforcement and charts and incentives have been taught and implemented for the children in their care, I devised a chart for the final 6 sessions that I have engaged the learners in producing as a group. Paton and Education, 2008, reflected upon research completed by Ofsted highlighting "Rewards, such as opportunities to go on trips or to gain awards, were a powerful incentive for students who struggled with school. Rewards motivated the students to apply themselves more and to achieve better grades at GCSE level. In the process, the students also gained the satisfaction of making a valuable contribution to the community." I also reflect upon Psychology theorist Maslow in which he promotes the notion that humans transcend through a series of development and that within this I promote self-esteem and confidence that will hopefully lead to effective
Honor in The Iliad is imperative to the Greeks because it is the foundation of the Greek society. It leads people to perform certain actions and determines their fate. Greeks live their lives based on the actions in which they will receive honor. All Greeks are determined to gain honor because it guarantees them a strong reputation and standing in the social ladder. The goal of every Greek soldier is to achieve honor in their lifetime one way or another. Homer portrays numerous heroes in The Iliad who fight for honor using various techniques. Honor is an important factor in a Greek society because it holds the respect for those honorable men; it gives Greeks a motivation to attain dignity. Hektor is the most honored because he sacrifices
My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile, the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.
In this essay, I am going to reflect on my learning and the way it has informed my practice in developing a positive learning environment. I am going to demonstrate my understanding of the need of promoting enabling environment in early years and the changes in my practice since attending university. I will critically evaluate on my own reflective and evaluative skills and I will offer examples of implementing these skills into my practice. I will explain why I decided to nurture the areas from the action plan and how I can achieve the recommended proposals. I am going to evaluate other modules and I will identify the areas I found interesting and would like to study in more depth. At the end of this essay, I will reflect on the learning journey and the way it helped to shape my personal and professional life. I will include references, which review related issues, where eligible.
They celebrated with a spaghetti dinner.” (p. 2)This evidence indicates that a reward at the end could teach students to dedicate themselves to something and stick with it as well as work hard. These skills could stick for some students and could carry over into school work and daily life. A simple reward at the end also can provide motivation for the kids. Some might say that providing a reward is corrupting the motives and morals of the participating students, but it is still teaching the kids valuable
My portfolio will demonstrate the skills and writing techniques I have developed and honed while taking the course English 1010 at the University of Memphis. Some of the techniques and skills I have learned include how to write with different persuasive strategies on the audience and how to incorporate critical thinking into my work. As well as these skills I have learned how to apply an effective composing process to my writing and have fine tuned my writing abilities. Writing with different styles on different topics has improved the way I approach writing papers. These styles helped me learn quickly, therefore making me a better writer and student at the same time.
Therapy Analysis The purpose of this paper is to examine the efficacy of my work as a co-therapist during the fifth session with the simulated couple Katy and Michelle. I will discuss our therapy agenda and the goals we hope to attain during the session. It is prudent to begin by giving a brief outline of the couple’s present problem and the patterns of dysfunction that I have identified within their relationship. In my opinion, it is the therapist’s job to recognize patterns and behaviors that disrupt the intimate bond between the partners.
Positive reinforcement and consent encouragement is a key part of learning, which I observed in my week of placement. The students would get that feedback from their teacher after doing a task correct, it would allow the students to excel with the next task with a positive outlook and enough encouragement to do it on their own. It gave the students a safe and supported platform for their learning to occur ‘ (Mackay, 2013, pp. 360)
In this paper I will be discussing the information I have learned from the article “From Positive Reinforcement to Positive Behaviors”, by Ellen A. Sigler and Shirley Aamidor. The authors stress the importance of positive reinforcement. The belief is that teachers and adults should be rewarding appropriate behaviors and ignoring the inappropriate ones. The authors’ beliefs are expressed by answering the following questions: Why use positive reinforcement?, Are we judging children’s behaviors?, Why do children behave in a certain way?, Do we teach children what to feel?, Does positive reinforcement really work?, and How does positive reinforcement work?. The following work is a summary of "Positive Reinforcement to Positive Behaviors" with my thoughts and reflection of the work in the end.
Reflection and reflective practice are terms widely used by many professional groups this assignment will focus on the education sector, specifically primary education. Reflective practice was originally defined by Dewey (1933:9) as: “An active persistent and careful consideration of any belief or supposed form of knowledge in the light of the grounds that supports it and the further conclusion to which it tends”. Although dated, Dewey is considered a seminal author and referenced broadly when examining reflective practice (Ghaye and Lillyman, 2006., Tripp, 2012., Schön, 2014., and Carroll and McCulloch, 2014). Many others have subsequently provided their own definitions including Kolb (1984), Boud (1985), Schon (1987), and Gibbs (1988). In
The reward system is a beneficial behavioral modification teaching method, which promotes more positive behaviors in the classroom (Charles & Barr, 2014). Many teachers generally use the reward method of praise within their classrooms for a variety of reasons. The first advantage of using praise within the classroom is because it encourages students do repeat positive behaviors in the classroom. Many children are simply looking for attention and enjoy it, which makes it a great technique to use in the classroom (Charles & Barr, 2014). Another advantage for this reward type is that due to the encouragement, the students are able to perform at a better rate; students excel academically. A final advantage to using praise is that it is easily implemented into the classroom and requires little to no preparation. This makes the reward method a great addition for teachers as well as students because students get instant feedback without
Without a doubt the lessons and exercises on time management were the most meaningful to me. They brought insight into why I seemed to be constantly working yet still never really got anything I wanted to accomplish throughout the day finished. I realized the majority of the activities I had been spending the most time on didn’t reflect my values of hard work and self discipline and long term academic goals to be successful in college. This motivated to completely change the way I managed my time by effectively striking a balance between my maintenance, committed, and free time.
Reflective practice and ‘the purpose of reflection is to work out what is already known and add new information with the result of drawing out knowledge, new meaning and a higher level of understanding’ (Moon, 2004). Kurunsaari et al (2015) noted that physiotherapists require professional skills in clinical reasoning and independent decision making. They also need to synthesize data. As I begin my career as a physiotherapist, the development of these skills will be important and reflective practice will be an essential skill required. This task is a reflective essay on my experiences of the module CT6031, Preparation for Practice Education.
The utilization of positive reinforcement is a possible technique for enhancing students’ behavior for a variety of school conditions for individual and as well as for the group of students (Wheatley, et al., 2009).
For my assignment I have decided to choose a group which I have just finished taking for level 1 Hairdressing and they have progressed on to level 2 Hairdressing. This is within my current role as a hairdressing lecturer at Hugh Baird College which I have done since October. Within this group there are a couple of people who have support workers. There is one student within the group who has severe learning difficulties and is a more mature student. She also has many health problems which results in her having to carry an oxygen tank around for when she has any problems with her breathing due to her having problems with her heart. There is also another student in the class who has learning difficulties, she is very clever but just needs someone there for when she needs something explaining. She also has a support worker that comes in to give her support. This student has also been going through personal problems at home and has attendance issues. There is another student within this group who has severe dyslexia. She doesn’t have a support worker but the support people who are in there do give her help as she can have a tendency to give up, not to listen and just needs to be kept on track so by sitting next to a person that does have a support worker she gets the help from them. These three students have all had their level 1 qualification extended for a year were the rest of the group have progressed on to level 2 Hairdressing. Two of these students may progress on to level 2 but one doesn’t have the ability to be able to do this as the requirements are too high for her. The reason the course was extended for them was because they were struggling with the work that was required for this qualification, but as the col...
One way in which a practitioner could work with the parents is by giving parents many different types of activities to do at home. By setting activities you can make them flexible so that they can be completed indoors or outdoors (Durant, S.
