Have you ever stopped and wondered what did people wear back in the day? Or what was the clothing like when the Romans or Greeks where here? The Clothing that we wear today is very different; people didn’t always wear skinny jeans and graphic shirts. I took the time to research what was clothing like before we were born. It was believed that the very first people the Homo sapiens may have been the first people to wear clothing. The first people may have worn leaves or animal skins. Adam and Eve (according to the bible) made aprons of leafs, so they could cover themselves. The first civilization in Mesopotamia was Sumerian. During the early years of Sumerian men wore small loincloth with a string in the waist so it could hold the waist up. This covered hardly anything. Later they started wearing skirts that were knee or lower length. The skirt would be held up with a thick rope belt that would be tied to the back. They were decorates with Fringe, a string like cloth, or they would cut pieces of fabric out in shapes of pedals. Women would wear a Shaw. A Shaw is a piece of fabric worn around the shoulders, or a scarf. Afterwards towards the end of the Sumerian rule men and woman wore skirts and shawls, this was around 2000 B.C. Ancient Egypt (3100 B.C-1 B.C) the most common textile was the Linen. It helped people feel more conferrable in the heat. Wools were known, but it was considered impure. The rich people were the only people that wore animal fibers. They were over coats, they were forbidden in the temples and Sanctuaries (holy place in a temple). Pharaohs would wear leopard skins over their shoulders and they would put the tail on their belts and they would hang. Men would wear skirts known as the Shendyt.
