For the Hispanic culture preventive care in often not viewed as important. The Hispanics believe more on living day by day and not focus on the future. The Hispanic culture is not proactive in regards to health care. Preventive care is not a priority for them. This culture relays health much in religious fate. When the Hispanic patient feels sick, home remedies is the first choice of treatment; or perhaps asking “abuelita” (grandmother) or an elder in the family. The Hispanic patient will even consider the possibility of a folk healer before seeking medical attention which a lot of the times will be the last resort. Due to trust concerns, the health care practitioner should establish a trust relationship with an effective cultural encounter. The African American culture believes there are different types of illnesses. One of them is natural illnesses which are physical illnesses like infection, diseases which could be attributed to environment or weather. Such natural illnesses can be treated homeopathic. Another type of illness believed by the African American cutler to exist is the occult illnesses which is the cause of supernatural forces, like evil spirits, and others forces not physical. Lastly, the spiritual illnesses, for the African American culture is the result of violation of sacred beliefs or of sin like adultery, theft or perhaps murder. They are treated by the power of God through religious healers. Home remedies such as salves, teas are the first choice before seeking professional medical advice. Much like the Hispanic culture the African American believed in folk medicine and over the counter medications. African American culture tend to not see preventive medicine as important and rather prefers to use the emergency room using a more crisis oriented approach to health
