During my freshman year of high school, I was diagnosed with developmental bilateral hip dysplasia. I was told that I would be able to put off surgery until my late 20’s and strengthen the muscles around my hip with physical therapy. I ended up being referred to a different doctor in Chicago right before my junior year of high school. My new specialist, Dr. Michael Stover, said that I would need surgery as soon as possible and my first hip surgery was scheduled for December 16, 2014. Two years later, after more physical therapy, my left hip began to weaken. My second hip surgery and first screw removal was scheduled for May 9, 2017.
There is no good time to have any surgery, but these surgeries are often inevitable for those with hip dysplasia. One of the corrective

I often relate life situations to terms/concepts that I have been able to learn in school. One of the terms that I have to know for this course, is opportunity cost. Opportunity cost is used to look at two situations and determine which one would be more beneficial to the individual or firm. After comparing each surgery, I believe that it is a better option to have a major surgery during the summer if possible. While I did not have to miss any school during summer break, I know that most individuals who have this surgery, have had to miss school during winter. I believe that I only missed a week and those that have more complications than me, may have to miss more days. This summer, my family was able to limit the amount of work and school that they did, to help me recover. This was possible because my family works in the school system, some individuals do not have all the support that I have, but I would still recommend summer surgery. Another benefit of having summer surgery, is that the weather is nicer, I was able to do more things outside and get out of the house more. In the winter, I had
I carried out this case study on Mrs. Casey (Pseudonym), any 86 year old woman who underwent an elective left total hip replacement (THR). After the OT student studied Mrs. Casey's past medical history in her medical chart, it was noted that she had previously undergone a right THR in 2011, which had been successful and free from complications. Ms. Casey had no other significant past medical history and had been an independent and active woman before the progression of her arthritis. Ms. Casey was required to have total hip replacements carried out on both hip joints as a result of severe Osteoarthritis (OA), which lead to stiffness, pain, and an eventual decrease in mobility, affecting her quality of life and involvement in meaningful occupations.
Another significant reason is summer vacation needs to be longer. The primary reason for this is children need time to wind down and relax before they have to go back to school. For instance, during the summer children relax and prepare for school, if they...
Hip implants have been utilized even longer than metal-on-plastic implants. Metal-on-Metal bearings (cobalt chromium alloy, titanium alloy or from time to time stainless steel) were in use from as distant back as 1955 nevertheless they were not agreed for use in the U.S. by the FDA till 1999. They proposal the possible for considerably decreased wear, alongside less inflammation and less bone loss. A little mechanism recalls have held negative attention to Metal-on-Metal. Metal-on-metal constituents permit the biggest heads across the whole scope of implant sizes. Colossal ball heads furnish increased scope of gesture and larger stability, that can considerably cut the chance of hip dislocation, a critical factor in the long word accomplishment of an implant.
So i have therapy mondays and wednesday. And when i went back that monday my therapist was surprised of how good i’ve gotten, because i was able to move my knee more and bend my knee more than 70%. She told me that it was good but my goal is 120% or more, for me to get to the next step of surgery. So i focused on that, and i was putting in twice as much as work i usually put in. Because the only thing that's on my mind is to get back on the field and work my way to become stronger and better. Also do what i love to do and enjoy playing with my friends and family. That's the only thing i’m striving for is to come back healthy and strong. And not do the same mistake as i did before to put myself in that situation. Finally almost that time for me to receive a phone call from my sergeant to tell me what i should do before i come in for surgery. She told me to not eat or drink once it's 7:00 because i was scheduled to have surgery at 9:30 and also she told me not to put on any lotion on my knees. So i did what she asked me to, and that whole day i been thinking about what is going to happen and would i ever be the same and how would it take for me to come back and be fully healed. So i went to the hospital it was almost time for me to have surgery and i was kind of scared but i was really looking forward to just get it all over with it. After i got done with surgery i was in so much pain that couldn’t move at all. Because if i even tried to move my leg that i would be in so much pain that i have to drink my pain killers. Once i got home i was in so much pain that i didn’t sleep for a whole week straight. But then i started getting used to sleeping without a problem or pain. But my doctor would always called me and told me what to do or if i had any problem to just give her a call. Then i asked her the next day when i could start walking and stuff. She
After joining the profession of nursing, I soon came to realize that people with hip fracture are usually in the dire need of the caring nurses for their activities of daily living. For that reason, I spent significant time helping and aiding the patients that have hip fractures during my service. I remember one of my patients named John, whose upper femur was broken as the result of a fall in the bathroom. His doctor opted the Open Reduction Internal Fixation (ORIF) to repair the fracture with the help of plates, nails, screws, and pins. I provided an egg-crate mattress for this patient, keeping in view his particular condition and high pain levels.
Hip Dysplasia is a genetic attribute which is affected by environmental factors such as excessive growth, exercise, the dog’s weight and the dog’s nutrition intake. This chronic disease often arises while the dog is still young and physically underdeveloped around the five-month mark the symptoms will appear and it will deteriorate as they grow. This abnormality can eventually cause lameness and agonizing arthritis or even loss of function of the hip joint altogether. The larger breeds of dog such as Great Danes, Saint Bernards, Labrador Retriever and German Shepards are most likely to hold this genetic
Soon after that, I had a much needed surgery to fix my hip injury. It was a long road to recovery with more physical therapy, but finally I knew I was on the right path thanks to the endless support from Master Guns. I received his encouragement to find new things that would help my hip and allow me to maintain my weight. I could swim. I could ride a bike. I could begin to enjoy lessened pain and lessened anxiety, while still working hard at my unit’s web management. I was starting to feel like a whole Marine again, despite the year-long rollercoaster I finally found a way off
For years, parents and educators have debated the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional school calendar, which has long summer vacations for all students. The longer you are away from school, the more you lose what you learned in the previous year. Studies have shown that children who know English as a second language benefit the most from year-round education because during the long summer break, they may not hear English for several months. Long summer breaks is a problem for traditional schools and the solution is to substitute traditional schools for year-round schools.
Total Hip Replacement (THR) is a surgical procedure that relieves pain from most kinds of hip arthritis, thus helping to improve the quality of life for the majority of the patients that undergo the operation. Arthritis simply means "inflammation of a joint." Arthritis can occur in any joint in the body. The main symptom of arthritis is pain which usually worsens with activity and weight bearing. This pain may be relieved most of the time through rest. There are over 100 types of arthritis but less than a handful account for over than 95 percent of the hip replacements that are performed. Some of these include Osteoarthritis (causes deterioration of the cartilage and the growth of bone spurs), Rheumatoid arthritis and Osteonecrosis of the femoral head. Doctors suggest that before considering hip replacement surgery for arthritis that the patient tries a number of non-operative interventions. Your doctor may have you consider little things such as weight loss (most arthritis is caused due to the weight bearing on a joint), activity modification or even the use of a cane. Patients should consider THR when daily living activities become harder to accomplish due to the pain. These activities would include walking, climbing stairs or other moderate pastimes. Anti-inflammatory medications which will help reduce the inflammation from the arthritis and reduce your pain may also be prescribed by the patient's doctor.
Question #3: What, if any, are the long term complications associated with these surgeries and do the benefits outweigh the risks?
The summer vacation students on a traditional schedule receive could be very beneficial since summer gives time for the students to attend camps or other activities that would allow them to learn. The camp may not be like the learning in school, but students would be able to get a different style of education while having fun. Lynn-nore Chittom and Jeff Klassen, two authors who wrote about year-round vs. traditional schooling say,
Physically stolen information can result from records being recovered after they were improperly disposed of or the medical chart being taken when the backs of the medical staff are turned. These are both pretty scary scenarios to consider as the outcome has numerous negative effects upon the patients life. Unauthorized disclosure of patient information is the second most common form of violation, with a total of 20%. This means the health care staff is letting the patient’s information be seen and used, either knowingly or unknowingly, by somebody other than the professionals and the patient themselves. These numbers are both astronomical as well as preventable. The US Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights states that “between April 2003 and January 2013 they received 91,000 complaints of HIPAA violations, in which 22,000 led to enforcement actions of varying kinds (from settlements to fines) and 521 led to referrals to the US Dept of Justice (criminal actions).” Prosecution rates may continue to rise, however, it is now our responsibility, as medical staff, to prevent the information from being release in the first place as well as to keep our patients information
I also am able to make five-hour road trips up to Rochester and St. Paul Minnesota for medical care throughout the year. Having the flexibility in my learning would allow me to work on my degree from anywhere and anytime. I would even be able to work ahead of schedule like I am use to doing in high school if I know there is going to be an extended time in Minnesota for medical care. I would mention to my younger self that due to your frequent surgeries, you would be able to get a majority of your work done before hand. Another great feature of managing my own schoolwork and time would be the ability to volunteer for part of my degree during part of the day and work my courses around my schedule. Along with doing volunteer work, I would be able to eventually get a part time
Orthopedic conditions may be treated by your physician and/or other medical specialists and healthcare providers. Several physicians from different medical specialties may be involved in the treatment at the same time. This multidisciplinary team approach is particularly important in managing the symptoms of an orthopedic condition, especially as many symptoms are chronic and change in severity over time. Some of the more common medical professionals involved in the treatment of orthopedic conditions may include the following:
Any surgical procedure, there is success or failure depends on the skill of the surgeon and the patient 's condition and also there are complexity after the surgery. The recovery period half the success of the surgery. Surgeons often forgo their own personal and family life In order to serve in patient and save people 's lives.
