FinQ1)
The are generally four kinds of substitute constituent utilized in THA that are metal-on-metal, metal-on-plastic, and ceramic on ceramic, ceramic on plastic. Types prosthesis utilized is reliant on the needs of patient and the procedure of the surgeon. All hip replacements allocate one thing in common: they contain a ball-and-socket joint. Which materials are utilized in the ball and in the socket, that jointly is shouted the “bearing” like a bearing in a car has the possible to alter the long-term durability of the combined replacement.
Metal-on-Metal
Hip implants have been utilized even longer than metal-on-plastic implants. Metal-on-Metal bearings (cobalt chromium alloy, titanium alloy or from time to time stainless steel) were in use from as distant back as 1955 nevertheless they were not agreed for use in the U.S. by the FDA till 1999. They proposal the possible for considerably decreased wear, alongside less inflammation and less bone loss. A little mechanism recalls have held negative attention to Metal-on-Metal. Metal-on-metal constituents permit the biggest heads across the whole scope of implant sizes. Colossal ball heads furnish increased scope of gesture and larger stability, that can considerably cut the chance of hip dislocation, a critical factor in the long word accomplishment of an implant.
Metal-on-Plastic
Metal-on-plastic is the most extended endeavored and tested bearing. The convex femoral stem is crafted of metal and the concave cup liner is made of a plastic shouted polyethylene.
Ceramic-on-Ceramic
Ceramic-on-Ceramic is a good combination alongside longevity and reliability. In this hip combined a high-strength ceramic bearing that has the standing for ultra-low wear performance. Ceramic is the har...

I carried out this case study on Mrs. Casey (Pseudonym), any 86 year old woman who underwent an elective left total hip replacement (THR). After the OT student studied Mrs. Casey's past medical history in her medical chart, it was noted that she had previously undergone a right THR in 2011, which had been successful and free from complications. Ms. Casey had no other significant past medical history and had been an independent and active woman before the progression of her arthritis. Ms. Casey was required to have total hip replacements carried out on both hip joints as a result of severe Osteoarthritis (OA), which lead to stiffness, pain, and an eventual decrease in mobility, affecting her quality of life and involvement in meaningful occupations.

The concept of Osseointegration by Branemark has opened up limitless possibilities and rehabilitation to the extent of involving not only single tooth or multiple teeth but also various developmental deformities and also extensive damage of jaws following injuries and resection of tumors. Dental implants have a long history dating back to prehistoric people where in they have used this technology (Bobbio A. Maya 1973, Tapia JL et al 2002). Dr.Norman Goldberg and Dr.Aaron Gershkoff did research on the use of dental implants and published an article in Dental digest in 1949 and a text book on dental implants in the year 1957. In 1965 Branemark an anatomy professor was the first to place dental implants and later on manufactured implants and drills under the compony named Bofors. Since the introduction of implants in dentistry it has become an esthetic, functional restoration which as a long term predictability (Scheller H 1998).
Some ceramics are used in orthopaedic applications such as bone repair, bone augmentation and joint replacement but their use in this field is not as extensive or widespread as metals and polymers because ceramics have poor fracture toughness. This severely limits the use of ceramics in load bearing applications (Davis, 2003).
In the early 1980’s breast implants began gaining popularity, but they have been on the market since the early 1960’s. They were invented by plastic surgeons Cronin and Gerow. Dow Corning began manufacturing them commercially in 1962. Today over two million women have undergone breast augmentation surgery. There are many negative consequences that may arise from the surgery, and there is always the risk of infection or rupture. When beginning my research on the subject I assumed there would be a plethora of information. I was shocked to find out that there wasn’t. Silicone breast implants have been around for 40 years and there have been very few studies on their consequences, and possible effects on a woman’s body. The Food and Drug Administration has never approved the use of silicone implants. It is a surprising fact, because silicone implants are still being used today, but only by women who agree to be in a study of their safety. The politics surrounding breast augmentation are sketchy for lack of a better word. They have been promoted as being safe, yet their safety has never been fully questioned. While looking online, I found a variety of websites on the subject. There were many websites from the plastic surgery industry promoting breast implants as being safe. Then there were the websites like http://www.siliconeholocaust.org, this was by far the most disturbing site I have ever seen. There were dozens of pictures of real women who had their lives ruined by breast implants. If these, and other women had the little information that is available on the subject, they may have opted not to have the surgery because of the unnecessary consequences they now suffer.
The most common use of biomechanics is in the development of prosthetic limbs used for the handicapped. Most work on prosthetics is done in laboratories where scientists use calibrated machines to test stress and wear of artificial limbs. These days, prosthetics, are made of titanium and lightweight fiberglass to make a near perfect match with most people. The most common prosthesis is the replacement in a below the knee amputation. The American Society of Biomechanics (ASB) held a meeting at Clemson University of 1997 in order to develop a sports prosthesis that would stand up to every day flexing of the knee for performance in sports.
Solid Freeform Fabrication(SFF) has been possibly the most large scale fabrication technique among the different types of design and fabrication methods (Bose, et al., 2012). The main feature of SFF has three dimensional parts which are printed layer-by-layer depending on computer aided design (ask plagiarism). The fabrication of SFF on polymer, ceramic, metal and composite scaffolds has been widely accepted in bone tissue engineering applications (Bose, et al.,
The modern total hip replacement was invented in 1962 by Sir John Charnley. Sir Charnley was an orthopedic surgeon who worked for a small hospital in England. The total hip replacement is considered by many to be the most important operation developed in the 20th century, solely based on the fact that it helps to relieve human suffering. Total hip replacement was first performed in the United States around 1969. Since then there have been more then a hundred of thousands of replacements performed in the United States. One of the first surgeons to perform this surgery was Charles O. Bechtol. In 1969, while he was a professor at UCLA, Bechtol started a total hip replacement program. The artificial hip joint is considered a prosthesis. There are two major types of artificial hip joints, cemented prosthesis and uncemented prosthesis. The type of prosthesis that will be used on the individual patient is decided by the surgeon depending on the patient's age, lifestyle and the experience that the surgeon has with a particular one.
The field of bioprinting, using 3D printing technology for producing live cells with extreme accuracy, could be the answer to many of the problems we as humans face in the medical field. It could be the end to organ waiting lists and an alternative for organ transplants. In 3D printing technology lies the potential to replace the testing of new drugs on animals. However, the idea of applying 3 dimensional printing to the health industry is still quite new and yet to have a major impact. Manufacturing working 3D organs remains an enormous challenge, but in theory could solve major issues present today.
Denture teeth can be made of acrylic poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or composite resins. PMMA is a polymer - a material made the from joining of methyl methacrylate monomers. Properties of PMMA include resistance to abrasion, chemical stability and a high boiling point. (Jun Shen et al. 2011). However, weak flexure and impact strength of PMMA are of concern as they account for denture failure. (Bolayir G, Boztug A and Soygun K. 2013). Composite denture teeth are made of a three distinct phases - filler, matrix and coupling agents. Out of the types of composite teeth available, nano-filled composite teeth are preferred. Composite teeth have a PMMA coating around the tooth and a high content of filler particles. This gives them strength, higher resistance to forces than acrylic teeth and provides compete polymerization due to the PMMA coating. (Anusavice, K. J., Phillips, R. W., Shen, C., & Rawls, H. R, 2012). If the interface between the PMMA denture base and PMMA or composite teeth was weak, the denture will not be able to sustain occlusal forces, making the base-teeth interface, an entity of significance.

Spinal fusion stabilizes the spinal vertebra by fusing the disk spaces between the vertebra. The purpose of Lumbar fusion surgery is designed to help create solid bone between the adjoining vertebra. Classically Autograft bone has been used for fusion. This case study demonstrates the successful use of a synthetic bone graft called Signafuse. Signafuse is a moldable bone graft comprising a proprietary combination of patented bioactive glass particles and biphasic mineral granules suspended in a patented resorbable polymer carrier.
While the idea of human tracking has its share of benefits, there certainly are numerous pitfalls that also exist. While the ability to identify someone with an ID tag may have practical uses, the security and privacy issues could seem potentially alarming to some. Not only that, a closer look may show that the technology doesn’t necessarily offer very many advantages when considering the costs of nation-wide adoption of the technology. This paper will try to investigate into these issues, whilst attempt to come up with some solutions.
As the complexity and convenience of technology increases, some of the new advancements such as microchip implant for humans and animals can be very controversial. At first, the implants may seem to have benefits, but in the long run they will actually cause more trouble than they are worth. These potential "troublemakers" are about the size of an elongated grain of rice and are injected into the skin under the arm or hand (Feder, Zeller 15). The chip is not powered by a battery and there is nothing that can possibly leak out into the body (Posada-Swafford 8). An early form of this technology was used to monitor salmon and has been used for other wildlife research (Verhovek 5).
