Highschool is not like the movies show it. Jocks are not always bullies, books are not slapped out of people’s hands on a daily basis, and getting A’s does not make someone a nerd. It is some of the most important years an individuals life. Highschool most of the time determines someones appearance to the world until they are an adult. If you do something amazing in highschool many people will remember you for it. The same thing goes for doing something with serious consiquences as well. Highschool is a tornado that consists of friendships, sports/clubs, and what one will do with their life after highschool. Friendships are a huge part of ones highschool career. The switch from middle to highschool is weird in the sense that people can really change. Some people a person may have considered a good friend in middle school can change to just another person they know in highschool. It does not happen extremely often but it definitely does …show more content…
Almost everyone has a club or sport that they participate in and enjoy. Many people get into a sport in highschool and a lot of players walk away with a scholarship or college sport career. Sports are a great way to extend ones education past highschool but stay fit and healthy as well. Sports are not the only thing that has benifits for participating in. There are many clubs and opportunities to extend one’s education past highschool. For example, Beta club is an extra curricular program in which one volunteers for school and community activities to help whatever the cause may be. With all of the options to choose from a person should know their limit. Doing too many clubs/sports and extra curricular activities can feel very stressful and demanding. It is good to do a few things like football and beta club, but a student could feel overwhelmed if they were to do too many things at once along with keeping up with their grades. A student should know their
Every person has different personalities that they develop during different stages in life. Many personalities start with parents and how they educate their children. That is the basis of who someone is. Once you get older you start to finally try and figure out who you are. High school can be either the best or the worst place to figure it out. High school is usually thought of a new scary place when starting freshmen year. There are kids who will be older and you will meet different types of people that you might have never met before. The way parents treat their kids can affect their school life. Meaning that if student’s lives at home are not good living conditions that can cause a gap between other students at school. The movie Carrie made in 1976, Carrie was bullied at school but also in way by the hands of her mother who also bullied her at home.
Making the transition from middle school to high school is a huge stepping stone in a teenager’s life. High school represents both the ending of a childhood and the beginning of adulthood. It’s a rite of passage and often many teens have the wrong impression when beginning this passage. Most began high school with learning the last thing on their mind. They come in looking for a story like adventure and have a false sense of reality created through fabricated movie plots acted out by fictional characters. In all actuality high school is nothing like you see in movies, television shows, or what you read about in magazines.
When I began high school, I decided to focus on my academics and athletics because I felt those were the most important to my future. I chose my classes carefully so that I would not only be challenged with rigorous classes, but also learn the value of working hard individually and as a team. As I’ve matured over the last few years I realized that I’m able to participate in a wider range of activities and still excel in my academics and athletics. I intend to continue to balance activities such as these while attending
Do you think its fair that players are credited for what they do, when cheating the game? Mark McGwire excelled at the game of baseball and got credit for all of his accomplishments, yet he cheated the game and used steroids. Babe Ruth, considered one of the greatest baseball players to play the game of baseball, who never cheated and set a great example for all who play baseball. Baseball has drastically changed over the years, especially in the cheating scandals of steroids; Babe Ruth set a great example by excelling in the sport and doing it clean, contrasting with Mark McGwire. Their existence shows how society accepted honesty and doing it the clean way in Babe’s era and how society accepts the scandals and dishonesty of Mark’s era.
I didn’t know what to expect of high school as I sauntered in the doors as an incoming high school freshman. In my first couple of weeks of school, I learned that it was basically like middle school, just a little stricter with different teachers and a different locker. I asked myself “how bad could it be?” Turns out,
I envision high school as an essential stepping stone for everyone. The era where every individual lacks the complete confidence in defining who they are or what they want to be. The four years of high school was the moment and opportunity to seek the interests that stood out to me the most. The experiences you make and the people you associate with are a crucial part of finding yourself.
High school is meant to be the time of your life, but for most seniors just like me it can be some of the most emotional and crazy time. The things in my past make me who I am today, and the things I do now are the first footsteps into the future. I’ve learned a lot about myself in these past four years, and I still have so much learning to do. This is my high school story; the good, bad, and the ugly.
High school is the most challenging part of life, for a high schooler. Trying to find your social group is crucial, and maintaining those friendships shapes your high school experience. Grades are not taken as seriously as they should be for most people, but are still maintained to please parents. Missing class, skipping class, or being late in general is customary, and most of your time is managed by the ‘adults’ in your life. You’re in a confusing space, battling between your own free will and the restrictions that are inflicted on you by law, whether it be your parents’, your schools, or even state laws, which regulate what time you’re allowed to be out, what you can wear, who you can date (that’s if you’re allowed to date at all), etc.
For hundreds of years it has been recognized that not all learning takes place in the classroom. Students mental and social development also occurs outside the classroom in athletics, music, and clubs. No matter what club the student is involved in, he/she fosters organizational, interpersonal, communication, planning, critical thinking, financing, and evaluation skills. A club gives students the opportunity to combine components of their mental and social development into personal action. These students have opportunities to test their skills and talents in different situations. Students will always work together to set goals, develop action plans for achieving those goals and implement those plans. Doing so, students could develop and maintain working relationships and friendships. The soul of a club is the students, but it also consists of many things that happen behind the scenes.
One of the biggest parts of surviving high school is to get involved in clubs and sports. In most schools there are many clubs and sports to choose from. Some clubs include, volunteer club, glee club, medical careers club, restaurant club and many more. Some sports include, cross-country, soccer, basketball, and track. Right now the clubs that I participate in are the glee
As underclassmen you come into high school either thinking that the next four years of your schooling will be really easy or really stressful. To tell the truth it can be both, weather you come into high school with a positive or negative attitude. High school is the last place you can get away with some mistakes and try again. The next four years will test your skills and responsibilities. You can learn a lot about yourself in high school, from how you use your time in school to your after school activities you do. What you do from a freshman to a senior will determine what you want and can do for future careers. High school will challenge you in many ways from organization skills to time management skills.
A variety of career options allow people to understand the job outlooks for people in many career paths right after college. Outside of the classroom, extracurricular activities allow people to learn about themselves. From a personal perspective, joining extracurricular activities has enhanced my personality, which has allowed me to meet new people who are majoring in a wide variety of subjects from english, history, business or even music. Some also get involved with extracurricular activities to relieve stress due to the anxieties of college classwork, projects or
I 'm involved in numerous extracurricular activities that will help me achieve my goals. For example, I am the current treasurer of (FBLA) The Future Business Leaders of America, Member of (DECA) it 's an international association for marketing that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in finance, hospitality and management. Additionally, I am an active member with Upstanders, a club that stands up against bullying and hate; (ASA) The African Student Association and the National Art Honor Society. I am also on the football and track teams. Track is a very competitive sport; it teaches me to endure and prepare me for the competitive real world. All of these extra-curricular activities are preparing me for future obstacles on my collegiate
Recent studies on parental involvement in education have found that there are many benefits for both the student and the adult when parents become involved in their children’s education. Without parent support, it is very difficult for a child to be motivated. From what I have seen growing up, only a small percentage of students are self-motivated, so it is absolutely vital that parents assist in the motivation process. I found this table to be particularly interesting and important.
Imagine walking across the stage in just a few years from now. Having thousands of eyes pointed at you as you take that emotional walk to finally receive your high school diploma. After a few years when you have graduated high school and started life, you're going to look back and think, what have I accomplished so far? Extracurricular activities can be very beneficial for students now, and those in the future as well. They can allow you to feel like you have accomplished something while in school. Extracurricular activities are important because they can benefit a student through personal, educational, and even social means. It is a great idea to get more students involved in extracurricular activities and parents should begin to give their kids a little push to get them more involved.
