I Think It Should be a Requirement High School is an important part of one's life. It sets each and every student up for the future, their future. Every student knows this is the main reason why we are here but also to learn the basics of studying, working hard, and being able to be attentive. These are all skills that we need to apply for the future. Teachers tell us that they are preparing us for the difficulties that come along with going to college. Most students need to go to college in order to make a good amount of money. There aren't many entry level jobs that pay well without going to college. This brings us to the application portion of college and jobs. No matter what job or school you are applying to, community service will always look great on your application. And while you're at it, community service …show more content…
She brings up the point that making a selfless act a requirement for graduating negates the spirit of volunteerism itself. She also says that the student will not feel the satisfaction of having spent time charitably. I completely respect these two viewpoints but I will have to disagree. First of all, you cannot remove the aspect of helping out the community by making it a requirement. It is a choice to not enjoy it if it's a requirement or you can feel that satisfaction if you choose. I got my job done in a couple weeks with the satisfaction of accomplishment as well as feeling like I've made someone else's life easier. Doing things that are selfless such as community service can make you feel great on the inside. It is a choice to not feel this way. You don't want to live your life with a mindset of “I just have to get this done”. Even if you have to why not take them time to enjoy it? You can't go on with your life thinking about the hardships of it, you've got to enjoy it. As far as we know, we only have one
Imagine a typical teen, they have a job, homework, sports, and other extracurriculars. They don’t get home till late at night and they are exhausted. This teen can take much more and thankfully they are about to graduate, but wait the school wants them to fit in one hundred of community service into that schedule in order to graduate. How on earth is this busey teen suppose to do that with all that they have going on? Students should not have to do one hundred hours of community service to graduate high school.
Plus, volunteering isn’t the only way to experience these things. Not everyone has grown up in areas with people just like them and things like social media have made people become more aware of things in the world and it has let them be able communicate with different people all over the world. Community service is only one way to achieve its benefits and it’s unfair for schools to enforce this on students that would like to reap its rewards another way.
In 2012 nearly 205,000 people were employed as a physical therapist in the United States. The average salary of a physical therapist in 2012 was $79,860 per year. The number of jobs is estimated to grow 36% from 2012-2022. This job of physical therapy involves many and very important tasks to fulfill the needs of their patients. It requires many different educational requirements and you must have strong people skills.
If students want to learn more about their field, they should feel inclined to actually do the work on their own. Also, if a school makes each student complete at least 24 hours of community service to graduate, every student in the school will graduate with the exact same amount, which means hundreds of students are going to the workforce with no advantage over the other.
For the longest time I could not decide on a major and a career to study throughout college. When I came to Georgia Southern University I discovered that they had a major that was very interesting to me. Sport Management id the ideal major for my interest and me. Since I love sports I figured that this would be the career for me. A degree in Sport Management helps to prepare for success in sport related occupations.
Ever wonder why you didn’t get that job you wanted? How would you feel if you knew a recent high school graduate got that job because they were more qualified than you? High schoolers that do community service, that is required to graduate, are becoming more certified for jobs because they get all kinds of different experiences. From volunteering at the local gardens, giving service to the elderly and cleaning up the streets, they get to serve and put their time into the community.

...h to work with children in elementary level classroom; I helped them to be prepared for a special dancing and singing mixed event in the other side of a church. I enjoyed working in the classroom at this church, but I never thought to become a clergy, a priest or a religion-related worker because I am not really religious person. In the mean time, this community service did not help me to choose a career and explore skills and interests. However, some people would feel do not want to volunteer because they do not see what is the point of it when it has nothing to do with their plans. I concede a community service for a career exploration, but this should not be a requirement for graduation because it is unfair to people who have career plans.
Community Service is a service that is performed for the benefit of the public or its institutions. There are two groups who perform community service, and those are criminals and the rest of us. This means that, for the majority of us, performing community service is completely voluntary. It is for this reasons li that I believe that community service should not be mandatory in high school for graduation. The supporters of this act think of it as an ideal society’s noble concept, but it is rather a noble concept trying to force an ideal society. When you look at it from this perspective you realize it is ironic.
Community service: What a wonderful opportunity for students! A chance for our younger citizens to learn responsibility, experience the satisfaction that comes with helping others and to acquire new skills.
Community service is a voluntary, unpaid act of kindness that an individual perform to benefit and help others who are in need. It is important for individuals to do community services. It is not only about helping the community but, also making a difference in someone’s life. It can help a person grow and build connections mentally, physically, and emotionally. Mentally, a person who does community service is able to change their perspective of the world and appreciate the things they have. Physically, it can help a person be more motivated and explore what is going on in their community. Emotionally, it can help a person feel kindness therefore, it can also help an individual interact with others, build a relationship, and further their communication. Participating in community service can help a person become more active and involved in their community, it can also build your work related skills and make you gain experience to network with future employers and companies. Community Service helps an
In an article written by Linda Saslow titled High School Mandating Community Service for Graduation, she mentions the many pros to mandatory community service. Saslow mentions school districts like Roslyn and Hewlett-Woodmere (1994, para 3) that have started requiring high school students to complete a certain number of community service hours in order to graduate high school. Their goal is to give “kids the opportunity for new experiences” (Saslow, 1994, para 4). Through research conducted by the school districts, they have come to the conclusion that students who would’ve been “too shy to volunteer have admitted that they were glad they had been forced”. This is good because it’s bringing students together and really opening them up to new
There should be a minimum age for allowing employment! We need a minimum working age of 18 to keep kids from taking away job opportunities from people that need to support a family. Kids these days are seen to be working casual or part time jobs a lot more, but what is happening to the older generation? They have been left out like love stock in a pack of predators with no support. This is all due to no minimum working age that is in South Australia which relates to how bad the pay rate is that benefits only the bigger companies.
Key word here being "freely", when a student is required to volunteer in order to acquire a high school diploma, the game changes completely and becomes unfair for those who are not ready to volunteer. A person's motivation to do something should be justified, when students are being forced into community service, "they are less likely to get involved into volunteering again."(Mandatory Volunteerism, Arthur Stukas) When being forced into something, a person is undoubtedly to have a negative feeling toward that thing, after all, mandatory community service is a punishment for minor
Contrary to this opposing view, helping others is the best feeling that one could ever have. What is a volunteer? Volunteer: a person who does work without getting paid to do it (Merriam, Webster). The act of volunteering gives people a sense of responsibility and makes one feel needed and useful to society one way or another. Students should be obligated to give back to their communities through acts of community service. It should be viewed from the perspective of paying their dues back to the community, after all the education of these students is free and it is the community that pays for it. Community service should be a mandatory high school graduation requirement because it builds ones character, limits the rate of teenage delinquency, and establishes a path for a better future as an individual.
