Hexion Chemicals Inc. is another diverse organization that contributes to multiple industries. For example, Hexion has ties to the oil and gas, forestry, transpiration and automotive, construction, and renewable energy industries (Hexion, 2018, para. 1). Hexion makes phenolic resins, fracking sand, pipeline and vessel coatings, epoxy resins, and wax emulsions (Hexion, 2018, para. 1). Hexion is based out of Columbus, Ohio, but their origin dates back to 1857 (Crunchbase, 2018, para. 1). They currently have over 10,000 employees in over 60 facilities that span 20 countries (Crunchbase, 2018, para. 1). Currently, Hexion is very familiar and comfortable with Lean Six Sigma, and the mindset is already present within the corporation. They employ …show more content…
Firstly, all fire hoses and fire extinguishers were marked on the wall with red paint leading from the floor, and dressed with new fire hose and fire extinguisher covers. Secondly, all overhead hoists and atomizer drop zones were marked with large lettering, red floor paint, and the atomizer drop zones had mounted retractable belt barriers to prevent individuals from walking under suspended loads. The belt barriers would serve as a warning device to let individuals in the area know that an overhead lift was in progress. Next, all railings and stairs were repainted yellow, which also marked all entrances, exits, and a change in walking height on the ground level. All waste bins, consumable materials, and equipment storage locations received labelling and yellow marking floor paint, to ensure everything has a place. Furthermore, the implementation of the 5S boards allowed operators to store their tools for working on the atomizers during plant shutdowns. Lots of derelict equipment or irrelevant equipment that was present in the process area went to another more appropriate location. The last stage ended with revamping the housekeeping check sheet to encourage the continuous improvement and sustainability portion of 5S. Coincidentally, repairing a large process leak during the same period of the Six Sigma implementation that made the housekeeping sustainability factor

The product was made from 4-methylcyclohexanol. The chemical, 4-methylcyclohexanol is used in industrial settings. In 2014, West Virginia was exposed to this chemical in drinking water. Since this chemical is used to wash coal of its impurities, it was unsafe to drink the water as well as take a shower (CNN). Similarly, 4-methylcyclohexanol has a strong smell which may cause people to have symptoms like vomiting, skin irritation, and trouble breathing. Diesel is also replaced by 4-methylcyclohexanol (National Geographic).

Even though I have no real experience in software development I know that dealing with software is not easy and can be very frustrating. Six sigma incorporates many tools that help organizations determine their customer requirements. Before reading this article I thought six sigma was just about statistics and improving processes. It is so much more than that. It’s also about managing all given information or data quantitative or not. Six sigma can help with customer requirements and also with understanding processes capability.
As you can see from the figure the lean six sigma is customer driven, targets variation, focuses
Lean is best defined as “a systematic approach to identifying and eliminating waste (non-value added activities) through continuous improvement by flowing the product only when the customer needs it (called pull) in pursuit of perfection” (Sarkar, 2008, p. 1). Lean thinking along with Six Sigma have generated interest all industries. This can be seen by the countless studies and quality improvement efforts undertaken by many corporations, with training and building staff as certified Lean Six Sigma experts.
Preparation for the shift often begins while one is walking into the station, because the thorough inspection of the fire apparatus is primary for a dependable engineer. During a walk-around inspection one should be examining the fire apparatus for any defects or flaws that were not present the shift before. Engineers take pride in the fire apparatus and wear them as badges of honor. On approach to the truck note if there are fluid leaks of any kind: engine oil, transmission fluid, radiator fluid, and water. Good engineers treat the fire apparatus as if it were their own child; if anything is wrong with the fire apparatus it is time to go to the doctor or in this case the mechanic. The windshield of the vehicle must be clear and free of cracks or blemishes, for this is the vista of our response to emergencies. The doors to all compartments should all open and close pro...
Since 1988 EnClean had been basing its strategy on providing high quality service (as opposed to low-cost). Quality improvement and control processes had been developed and successfully maintained. However, by 1992, as a result of rapid expansion, many divisions were executing quality procedures as a formality, just to satisfy the corporate group. Thus, EnClean is undermining its core competency – hig...

Lean Six Sigma is a methodology that creates processes within an organization to cut waste and improve the company’s performance. However, studies have shown that over the past decade applying Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma can create problems for companies financially and potential problems for employees. Companies should take great care before implementing a Lean Six Sigma solution because in some instances, going lean can do more harm than good both financially for the organization as well as destroying employee loyalty and moral.
The author reviews the impact of emissions controlled devices, however the focus of the case study is on incremental changes in existing technology. Incremental changes include substituting one or two steps in a production process or relationship changes between production steps. One example of incremental changes provided by the author was eliminating chlorofluorocarbons and saving energy by replacing a refrigeration process with a heat exchanger that can exploit waste cooling from another part of the process. There are three critical decision-making stages for incremental changes: identifying a pollution prevention opportunity, finding a solution appropriate to that opportunity, and implementing that solution. The author discusses the three aspects of an organization (culture, ability to process information, and its politics) and how they impact the decision-making stages.
The Six Sigma approach was designed by Motorola in 1986. The primary objective of the concept was to develop a tool for tallying the process defects and, as the result, improving business operations. The foundations of the approach are the customer needs, statistical analysis of data and facts, and timely execution. The method promises numerous benefits such as increasing performance and profitability of an organization, improving product or service quality and employee morale, decreasing costs, the growth of market share, the higher level of satisfying customer needs, etc. (Meredith & Shafer, 2013). The primary advantage
... As it has already done with its customers, the company has taken its suppliers as partners in pursuing Six Sigma quality, and it technical assistance and offers training to help them continuously improve.
The main idea is to fulfill the internal or external customer’s wants. Through lean thinking, it is hoping that nonmanufacturing company’s can provides value to the customers with minimum cost, effort and can save time. Thus, it will lead to improve performance and optimum utilization of the company’s additional capacity and resources.
