First, Hester is a main symbol in the book and she is a symbol of sin, confession, shame, and repentance. The first two symbols Hester represents are shame and sin. She has committed adultery and was forced to stand on the scaffold for public humiliation. She has to wear the scarlet letter ‘A’. The scarlet letter ‘A’ stands for adultery and is a symbol of shame. Hester is forced to wear this so she will always be reminded of the sin she has committed and so everyone knows that she has committed adultery. Although Hester has to wear the scarlet letter, she is a very strong, independent woman even without a male influence in her life. Hester is also a symbol of strength because she has to hold all of the shame and punishment in the sin that her and Reverend Dimmesdale committed. On Election Day Reverend Dimmesdale gives his sermon and people say it is the most powerful speech he has ever given. They think that

Witchcraft. The word in itself evokes a certain kind of eeriness. In past centuries, people who were accused of being witches were thought of to be the worst kinds of people there are. There were several kinds of witches and several ways in which they operated. Whatever the reason, the Catholic Church saw witches, or those accused of being witches, as sinful. Partly to stop this kind of sin and other forms, the Inquisition of the Catholic Church was implemented. It is important to know what the factors leading up to the Inquisition included to fully understand its implementation. Once the history is reviewed it is easy to see how the Faith of the Church and the reason behind its thinking were hand-in-hand at the time, and also the way in which they seemingly conflict today.
Through the Harry Potter series starts off relatively pleasant and more as a children’s story, the series soon turns grim and might even be considered a horror story by some. Magic in the wizarding world of Harry Potter and it is not viewed at negatively because of the positive ways it is used throughout the series, but what about the negative ways? “The fight between good and evil, embodied most strongly in the characters of Harry and Lord Voldemort, emerges as a centerpoint for the story line” (Patrick and Patrick 222). Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters are wizards and witches who use dark magic to kill and torture those that disagree with their views. These wizards and witches relentlessly use the unforgivable curses in the series such as the: cruciatus, killing, and imperious curse. These curses are unforgivable and also illegal in the wizarding world and the display of torture and murder are harsh acts for young viewers. Christopher and Sarah Patrick go on to say in “Exploring the Dark Side”, that this is “the kind of evil in which serial killers engage directly parallels that of Lord Voldemort (Patrick and Patrick 230). The use of dark magic, murder, and torture are all reasons why the Harry Potter films and books can be hard for young viewers to comprehend and therefore may be of ill
A spiritual ritual would be performed while the ill received medicine. A spiritual ritual would be performed to rid the ill of bad spirits and cleanse the spirit. Native Americans believed that a person became ill when a bad spirit entered the body. It is the shaman’s job to try to purify the ill’s spirit. Every tribe across the nation has a shaman. A shaman or medicine man/woman would perform this ritual. A shaman uses the spiritual world to help heal the sick. Shaman were highly regarded as chiefs and tribal spiritual leaders. Shaman were often born into a family with many generations of shaman. Shamans who were not born into, they had visons that lead them to study medicine. Being the shaman was a full-time job. In return of their services to the tribe, the tribe would provide food, shelter, and any assistance needed to the shaman.

...nce. She could have stayed in a place where no one knew of her sin, but she had transformed into an independent woman who decided for herself what she did with her life. Hester’s sin proved to be a lot more life changing than she bargained for. Her whole life was turned upside down, from a new child, to social banishment. Hester couldn’t live how she once did, speak to those she once knew, or act the way she once did. However strenuous life was, Hester still prevailed in a society controlled by sin. Hawthorne states, “Such helpfulness was found in her- so much power to do and power to sympathize- that many people refused to interpret the scarlet ‘A’ by its original signification. They said that it meant ‘Able’; so strong was Hester Prynne, with a woman’s strength” (152).
WITCHCRAFT: The word witchcraft comes from the word “Wicca.” Wicca means the wise one. Witchcraft is to be believed as a pagan worship and or religion, a stereotype as a “magical phenomenon. The first is the Wiccan Rede and the second is the Threefold Law or Law of Three. There is a long version of the Wiccan Rede which outlines all the possible things someone needs to consider in order to be a conscientious witch. It is a guide of how to live life ethically and practice magick wisely. This rede, also speaks to taking care of yourself and the importance of living a balanced life. The Threefold Law appears within and works hand in hand with the rest of the Wiccan Rede, stressing that whatever energy is sent out into the world will be returned to you times three. I cannot imagine a more compelling argument for trying to be sure that your magick was based on only positive
Hester Prynne’s sin was adultery. This sin was regarded very seriously by the Puritans, and was often punished by death. Hester’s punishment was to endure a public shaming on a scaffold for three hours and wear a scarlet letter "A" on her chest for the rest of her life in the town. Although Hawthorne does not pardon Hester’s sin, he considers it less serious than those of Dimmesdale and Chillingworth. Hester’s sin was a sin of passion. This sin was openly acknowledged as she wore the "A" on her chest. Hester did not commit the greatest sin of the novel. She did not deliberately mean to commit her sin or mean to hurt others.
Witchcraft has been a part of many cultures for hundreds of years all around the world. Witchcraft is defined as being the manipulation of substances and or words that are powerful using magic to cause either harm or good depending on the person intent. The characteristics are that there are a few exceptions; witches are mostly seen as evil beings, secondly, witches have particular traits, for example reversals of behaviour, witchcraft is typically genetic condition, as it is usually used
It is used to connect with another entity, in every sense of the word (mind, body and spirit). According to AltFaith, Invocation should only be used for serious matters, such as healing, and not for simple day to day spell work, as this can aggravate the deity being called upon, and because the power this creates is so great, it is not to be abused. AltFaith’s recommends building a relationship with the entity/deity prior to Invoking them, as this is an important part in self-protection, as well as creating a beneficial working relationship with this deity. A good (mundane) example of this is calling upon a friend for help – if we are in regular contact with this person and is a mutually beneficial relationship, when the time arises for one of us to ask for help from the other, chances are pretty good the help will be there. On the other hand, if we were to regularly call upon a friend only when we need aid, eventually they will stop assisting us, as they begin to feel used – this can also be attributed to asking for help from other worldly beings; in order for the relationship to work, it must be mutually beneficial, and is not to be taken
