Rede Rede is derived from Old English rǣd, of Germanic origin, also of Dutch raad and German Rat. As a noun, rede is defined as counsel or advice given. A rede serves as a guideline of how a person should behave. While rede is considered an archaic term, the modern equivalent might be more easily understood as a code of ethics and how ethics works as a standard of human conduct. Ethics are a guideline, much like rede, where the course of action and the subsequent effects may be interpreted as a good or bad, right or wrong. A rede encompasses a study of rules or standards to help us make decisions in our lives. Many times we struggle with the proper course of action, or the best thing to do in a situation. The first is the Wiccan Rede and the second is the Threefold Law or Law of Three. There is a long version of the Wiccan Rede which outlines all the possible things someone needs to consider in order to be a conscientious witch. It is a guide of how to live life ethically and practice magick wisely. This rede, also speaks to taking care of yourself and the importance of living a balanced life. The Threefold Law appears within and works hand in hand with the rest of the Wiccan Rede, stressing that whatever energy is sent out into the world will be returned to you times three. I cannot imagine a more compelling argument for trying to be sure that your magick was based on only positive …show more content…
The Wiccan Rede is not a law. There is no authority that can be called to stop your magickal works because you failed to operate within the guidelines. There is no specific punishment for choosing to act against a certain set of words designed to provide an ethical measuring stick. However, when we choose to work outside of the clearly defined or morally regulated scope that a rede or code of ethics may provide, then the karmic balance can seem to be off kilter. The energy is confused; not particularly positive and not specifically negative. Imagine, if you will, a broken magic wand, sending off sparks in all directions. What may have been intended to be sent forth has now just sparked onto myself. In this case, I would hope that the energy was a positive healing
In the book, Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton, there is a lot of symbolism that correlates well with the situation Ethan is in from the start. Not only is death and silence a reoccuring symbol within the book, but the color red is often brought up as the story starts to develop. Several items are said to be red as the story goes on. Ethan’s scar, the pickle dish, and Mattie’s red ribbon and scarf are just a few items that are brought up in the story. This color could represent the desire he feels toward young Mattie since he is so drawn to her but refuses to tell her how he feels.

In 2005, the American Counseling Association (ACA) published a document titled the ACA Code of Ethics which was designed to aid counselors in the ethical decision making process and, in response, “expand the capacity of people to grow and develop” (p. 3). The ACA Code of Ethics provides regulatory guidelines for all counselors to follow in ethical decision-making and practice. Of a more specific nature, the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) has also published a document stating the ethical practices and procedures for the Christian counseling field. The two documents contain many similarities, but, due to differing goals and principals, also containing may differences. This paper compares these two documents and more specifically focuses on the similarities and differences in the areas of confidentiality, fees, and records.

The color red has many significant meanings. It often symbolizes passion and desire but also anger and violence. In the novel Ethan Frome the color red represents not only the desire Ethan and Mattie have toward each other but the anger and stress his current marriage with Zeena is under. It also represents enthusiasm and confidence but in this case the lack of these qualities in the marriage.
...ecision making process that takes place when ethical dilemmas arise, but that it also seems refreshing as it takes us back to a time when society knew right from wrong and chose right. However, we also feel that beings capable of reason do not, as a whole, follow inherent duties. They are not always subject to imperatives which push them to act in the correct manner regardless of personal gain, or in the appropriate manner for personal gain.
Yet, as Professor H.S. Versnel flawlessly articulates, “Magic does not exist, nor does religion. What do exist are our definitions of these concepts” (177). Anthropologically evaluating the variance, it is moot and rooted in modern-Western bias that is irreconcilable with the reality of non-Western spiritual systems (Versnel 180). Yet, such perverse infusion of the concept of magic maintains its
