A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a hero is an individual who is admired for great bravery or fine qualities. To me a hero is so much more than a person who shows great bravery. When I think of a hero many fine qualities come to mind; intelligence, courage, altruism, compassion and great bravery.

Consequently, the Egyptian King forced the children of Jacob into slavery and mandated that all males born were to be killed (Sumney, 80). These stories and themes within Exodus fall in Anderson’s first act of the biblical drama—the formation of God’s people. In this act Moses beat the unruly conditions in order to become a very prominent character in God’s process. I believe this is one example when God makes the impossible seem possible. Instead of Moses being killed at birth, God enables him to do the impossible which consists of living and becoming an important instrument in the formation of God’s people. Not only does Moses end up returning to Egypt to free the oppressed people of God, but he also shows great leadership when helping the Israelites cross the Red Sea. Both of these instances are important in understanding the unified message of the Exodus and God’s covenantal relationship with His

Movies have evolved a great deal since the days when a couple fighting scenes and a small love story satisfied audiences. Today movie plots are much more complicated and have much more action, thanks to modern day technologies. Although these new technologies seem to make movies increasingly complicated, some crucial roles in movies will never change. One thing that has remained constant in the film industry is the role of the hero. No matter what the genera of the film and or when the film was made the hero’s always share similar characteristics and are put through similar series of tests to prove their heroism. When these tests are completed it seems to pull everything together in their films. Although the hero Shane in the movie Shane and the hero Ripley in the movie Aliens are from two separate generas and are also from separate time periods, the hero’s in each movie share characteristics and are put through similar tests that make them, in theory, one in the same. Heroic characteristics start to become evident right from the start of each of the movies.
