I am pursuing an interdepartmental degree in Mathematics and Economics while simultaneously pursuing a MBA in Healthcare Management (Leadership in Medicine). The National Health Systems relates to my Economics ID and especially the MBA in Healthcare Management. Analyzing the healthcare systems in United States of America, Canada, England, and Netherlands will help me understand how healthcare systems compare and contrast in various countries. During the fall trimester of my freshmen year, I took a class called Introduction to Health Systems (LIM 500). This class focused on a series of topics regarding healthcare systems in America. In addition, it discussed elements of the American healthcare system such as HMOs, ACOs, insurance, and end of …show more content…
I have had extensive experience in the medical field in the past 7 years. I have shadowed several doctors of varying specialists, from orthopedic surgeon to endocrinologist, and worked in many hospitals, such as the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, NJ. In addition, I am a nationally certified EMT and have worked as an EMT over the past year. Through my experiences in hospitals and medical settings, I have been able to see how healthcare is managed so differently even in the same state. By analyzing the variance of health care across countries I would able to gain a better understanding of healthcare systems and healthcare management. I have also read a wide amount of articles and books on health care systems as part of LIM500 in Fall 2015, LIM501 in Spring 2016, and HCX633 …show more content…
I have visited 6 of the 7 continents in my lifetime and experienced lifestyle in each of those. I spent two weeks traveling around Europe while in high school. In addition, the summer before my senior year, I stayed in villages in Ghana (Africa) to provide medical care to individuals who did not have access to medical care. This particular experience, in which my lifestyle was dramatically altered from that of my lifestyle in America, helped me become independent and culturally immersed. These are two traits I believe are crucial for people who are seeking to go on a term abroad. Through my experience in Africa, I was not only able to receive lessons and experiences from the communities, but I was also able to contribute to the culture and atmosphere of the villages there. I believe I would be able to do the same on the communities visited in National Health Systems. Unfortunately, due to the limited amount of time spent in some of the countries in this program, I will likely receive more from the communities than I am able to contribute to them. Overall, because of my experience being abroad I believe I am extremely well prepared to spend the summer term abroad on the National Health Systems program. As a result, I will be able to easily immerse myself in the international components of this program and get as much out of it as
The health care organization with which I am familiar and involved is Kaiser Permanente where I work as an Emergency Room Registered Nurse and later promoted to management. Kaiser Permanente was founded in 1945, is the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plan, serving 9.1 million members, with headquarters in Oakland, California. At Kaiser Permanente, physicians are responsible for medical decisions, continuously developing and refining medical practices to ensure that care is delivered in the most effective manner possible. Kaiser Permanente combines a nonprofit insurance plan with its own hospitals and clinics, is the kind of holistic health system that President Obama’s health care law encourages. It still operates in a half-dozen states from Maryland to Hawaii and is looking to expand...
After over 15 years of working as a CNA and Caregiver, I decided that I wanted to continue my education in the medical field. In 2013 I took the first step towards gaining a better future with more experience as a medical professional. I enrolled into a Medical Assistant program at IBMC college of Longmont. It has been a long road and I am almost to the finish line having gained essential skills needed to move further into my career. It has been a grueling and eye opening experience for me being an adult learner returning back to school at 33 years of age. I persevered through these pass two years with courage and determination, never letting my short comings get the best of me. As I approach the end of my journey with IBMC I have realized that I have a passion for helping those persons who
According to the American Health Information Management Association, Health information is the data related to a person’s medical history, including symptoms, diagnoses, procedures, and outcomes. Health information records include patient histories, lab results, x-rays, clinical information, and notes. The data can be analyzed to see how a patient’s health might have changed. I took interest in Health Information Management when it was brought to my attention by a doctor. He told me that is a very interesting field and it is in high demand as they have more jobs than people to fill them. I went home, researched it and now here I am making my entry into the field.

Being accountable to me as a professional is saying yes to the call and responsibility we have to bear out. It is a responsibility we take for ourselves and for others who rely on us to be present in any situations. The mission requires an openness to relationship with others. The consistency of performing at a higher level each time the job is done and strive to give all for the greatest good. In collaboration with others involved. Throughout the developed world, the health care system is constantly faced with many unique challenges. Everything from daily business practices, location, reduced budgets, local populace and high medical utilizers may present many unique situations. Hence, it is important for a successful health care system to be diverse and have the ability to respond to challenges as they arise. I applied to the Global MedPrep Scholars Program to study abroad in Shanghai, China. This experience allowed me to view health care from a global perspective. Studying the Chinese health care system has given me a glimpse as to what Global Health entails, allowing me to aspire towards my goal. Similarly, I believe the SPRINGH program will allow me to continue studying Global Health in the capacity of my interest. Doing this kind of research is where I believe my passion lies as a future physician. If accepted, I would have the opportunity to conduct Global Health research at sites across the world, gaining access to invaluable experiences and knowledge that would facilitate my future in global
Healthcare administration is a field that is often overlooked, but is essentially the beating heart of any healthcare organization. With more and more hospital, and clinics, and other healthcare organizations popping up everywhere there is a need for people like me to manage the day-to-day operations. I am choosing to apply to this program because I want to study how the U.S. healthcare system operates. I want to learn the essential skills of operating a healthcare facility such as managing a budget, reducing healthcare costs, analyzing the efficiency of an organization and proposing ways to improve it. This program is going to give me the necessary education and skills so I can carry out my goal of being a healthcare administrator.
It has been my passion to become a doctor ever since I was a little girl. A doctor has one of the greatest jobs in the world, which is the power to heal someone of their discomfort. I want to be able to be of service to people by helping them both physically and emotionally. Currently I'm helping others on an emotional level through my volunteer work with Personal Touch Volunteers by spending time with patients and assisting them with their needs. However, I'm not able to heal them physically thus my reasoning for wanting to go to medical school to obtain the training to become a physician.
From a young age, I was drawn to the healthcare field, not because the amount of money doctors, nurses and other health professionals made, but because of the dedication and contentment I saw on their faces helping someone in need. Growing up everyone wanted to become a doctor or a nurse and as a little child being a doctor or a nurse was a profession many parents wanted their child to pursue as a career. Needless to say, I fell into that category because I had high hopes that one day I will become a nurse. However, that dream came to a halt.
My previous academic experience and research in economics and management information systems as well as my work experience and training in both healthcare and information systems have prepared me for your program. I believe the master of public health with a focus in health informatics program at Georgia Reagents University provides the ideal academic setting to help grow and develop the skills necessary to help reach my goal of contributing to the effective integration of information technology into the healthcare setting. My excitement for the field will doubtlessly lead me to actively participate and contribute in the academic settings as the potential to improve the effectiveness of healthcare information systems truly is my passion.
Public Health is the most important aspect of medicine. My studies in Public Health will go a very long way to help me grasp the proper concepts and tools needed to work with the government to bring sustainable solutions to health care problems faced by various communities today. Public Health issues touch almost every family in the USA today. I know that if the health sector was better funded, better equipped, and better managed, with clear and effective policies, this kind of suffering could been avoided. I want to go into public health because I believe strongly that I can contribute not only to my fellow Americans, but also to people all over the world. I anticipate that through proper planning, interventions and implementation of effective policies, one will be able to bring about much-needed change through my work with an NGO or non-profit affiliated with the UN.
’s volunteer in an enlightened health organization (non-profit) which is working in Houston to promote the public health through scientific research and spreading health awareness among the people through offering free screening for blood glucose, blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, free lab tests, offering health pamphlets and ensuring access to discounted physician visits to the uninsured people. Reading the curriculum of your epidemiology track made me more fascinated with your program. I will have the great honor and passion to pursue a master's degree in public health from such a prestigious and reputable school. My ultimate goal is to improve the practice and delivery of public health as a leader and teacher in the clinical setting. . I am excited to start my studies with the hope of making a meaningful contribution to this field and to the community.
