People often interchange the term management and leadership style. Although both seems to have similar principle because it requires guiding or controlling a group of people to achieve goals, both have actually different outcomes of expectations. Management level is about getting things done whereas leadership style motivates and getting people to be committed in achieving the overall goals. In handling an organization, the style of leadership or management has no fix, right or wrong to use as it depends on the organization industry and sector. Organization can adopt one style or can lean over with two styles combining.

Also, having healthy citizens ensures social strength, financial security and political stability (Tammy Dray, 2013). Hence, it is essential to have a competent, forward-looking and proficient management to develop and nurture the organization.
Bureaucratic management style seems appropriate to pursue for healthcare industry and to those who engage in routine tasks because it is about ensuring that people follow procedures strictly. This style consists of various layers of management levels and positions thus decision making has to undergo several section heads for approval as information typically flows from top to down wards.
Similarly to healthcare sectors, decisions making needs to have authorization and it is crucial as not to jeopardize the safety of the society. However, both have the same desired target to work into. It has already been ruled out that the management plans whereas the leaders execute the plan. Hence, there is no one style to fit all or the organization and there is also no right or wrong in the choosing of the style because each management and leaders have their own ways in approaching to people and projects. Being effective is to understand your strengths and weakness and be comfortable with your own style. Healthcare organizations are generally strict with their leadership style because health matter can lead to deadly consequences therefore a firm and visionary leader is essential. It is not easy to be handling people management because trust and capability is the few factors to consider in a leader. There is so much a individual can implement but if the group of people is not highly motivated or lacking in skills and knowledge, the leader can is still considered as an ineffective leader, hence the upper management level needs to step in to boost up the morale and amend the shortcomings. Leadership is the ability to influence employees to voluntarily pursue organizational goals. Leadership is vision, enthusiasm, love, trust, passion and consistency. Management is to pursue organizational goals efficiently and effectively by integrating the work of people through planning, organizing, leading, and controlling organizations resources. Leadership and management are not the same. They are not interchangeable. Leadership is coping with change and management is coping with complexity (Williams 444).
Hospital emergency room is a place which requires high efficiency and precision of job performance. Apart from that, it is also a place where many routine jobs are performed daily by healthcare team following a strict set of rules. In 1947, Max Weber explained about the bureaucratic style saying that following normative rules and adhering to lines of authority are the basis. This type of leadership is beneficial in the management where not much creativity and innovation are expected from the team members. On top of that, the bureaucratic leadership is useful for a job which is routine based and a definite set of safety regulations or guidelines.
Management is defined as the act or manner of managing, handling, direction, or control (dictionary.com). Leadership is defined as an act or instance of leading; guidance; direction (dictionary.com). They do not mean the same thing; however, it is thought that a manager should have leadership skills to be able to manage an organization. Not all managers have great leadership skills and just because a manager does not have these skills does not mean he or she is a bad manager.
Even though leadership can be an essential place for development, if certainly not of greater importance, is the desire to create your conditions, which service and boost new models of leadership. Another dimension regarding consideration inside the implementation regarding clinical governance as well as leadership would be the disempowerment from the nursing profession. Hitchcock (2013) supported this view, asserting that yesterday’s methods do not work in the permanent white-water world, where managers traditionally manage within the system and focus on doing things according to the rules.

In this paper I will highlight an example of a specific leadership style that we come across in healthcare settings. I will review my leadership self-assessment results and discuss the impact of leadership on staff and groups.
According to Business Dictionary.com, leadership is defined as the individuals who are the leaders in an organization, regarded collectively. It also can be define as the activity of leading a group of people or an organization or the ability to do this. Leadership involves the establishing of a clear vision, sharing the vision with other so that they will follow willingly, providing the needed information, knowledge, and methods to realize the vision and coordinating and balancing the conflicts interests of all members and stakeholders.
Bureaucracy has been the main form of organisation for over a century and can be characterised by the following: functional specialisation, employees carrying out one function of activity as their primary role; hierarchy of authority, those in superior positions having authority based solely on the virtue of the position itself; a system of rules, the tasks of the organisation following a formal set of procedures and practices; and impersonality, individuals being treated on the basis of the rules rather than emotions and personality (Knights & Willmott, 2012). The mainstream perspective states that a bureaucratic organisation’s central aim is to maximise efficiency, objectivity and fairness and can be thought of as a ‘machine’ with the people making up the components (Knights & Willmott, 2012). This view attributes three problems to this rule-centred organisation: poor motivation, poor customer service and a resistance to innovation and change (Knights & Willmott, 2012). This chapter helps explain the content of qualities and proficiency for healthcare managers to be effective. Once again, effective management skills or certain qualifications enhance a healthcare organization environment. Healthcare managers and supervisors must have the capacity to handle challenges while the organization objectives and regulations may change over a period of time. Effective healthcare management governs the success of a healthcare organization. There are many different skill sets and leadership styles to be effective as a manager. People are interested in knowing what strategies are effective in healthcare management.
Presently many of us have learned that managers are primarily administrators who have learned to write business plans, utilize their resources and keep track of progress. We must learn that we are not limited by job title, and that means we can utilize our management skills in any position that we are in. We must also know that we can use our leadership skills in the same situations. On the other hand we have also learned that leaders are people who have an impact on those that surround them. The main difference that separates these two roles is that management is a function that must be utilized in any type of business, and leadership is the relationship that the leader has with his followers, which in turn can motivate and energize the organization.
Organizations in today’s world need to adapt and overcome many obstacles that are predictable as well as unpredictable. Max Weber outlines the five basic principles of bureaucracy which are as follows: The Division of Labor, Hierarchy of Authority, Written Rules and Regulations, Impersonality Principal, and Technical Qualifications. These basic principals were designed to maximize productivity and assert authority over subordinates in the workforce. (Weber, 1968) In present day the basic principles of Weber’s bureaucratic design are still visible in just about every organization. The only variable is to what extent they are applied.
Leadership in the medical field is vastly overlooked. Many people view leadership in medicine as a rise in ranks, in positions of power within a hospital or organization. Management is when you are in control of things or people, and basically, you are in charge and have people who work for you. Leadership is the leading of a group of people or organization. My management style was to be more of a manager than a leader because I had to be strict with some of my employees and be the boss. Also, they weren’t following me in the simulation, they were working for me.
