Introduction

Ethics in the healthcare industry have been around for several years and many people are probably familiar with the Hippocrates Oath that providers must adhere. In addition, to the Hippocrates Oath there are four major medical ethic principles, which consist of beneficence, nonmaleficence, autonomy, and justice (Bodenheimer & Grumbach, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to reflect on ethical issues in the healthcare setting.
Roles Ethics Play for both Managers and Leaders
The four major ethical principles should play a role in the activities for both managers and leaders whether they are a healthcare provider or not. Beneficence is the obligation to help individuals in need (Bodenheimer & Grumbach, 2012). Although, the manager or leader may not be a healthcare provider they are in charge of the business-side of organization. Nonmaleficence is the obligation to do no harm (Bodenheimer & Grumbach, 2012). Therefore, managers and leaders need to ensure that the healthcare providers maximize the benefits and minimize any harm to patients by following through the …show more content…

Therefore, the first is distributive justice, which is the burdens in society and the allocation of benefits (Bodenheimer & Grumbach, 2012). Consequently, there is no universal agreement on the fair costs of care and/or a formula to allocate benefits (Bodenheimer & Grumbach, 2012). As a result, it seems distributive justice will continue to create challenges for the healthcare industry. The second is, rationing of medical care, money, and other services. Overall, it is a hard decision to decide who gets what healthcare services and who needs the care more. Therefore, it seems that rationing leads to the valuing of one life over another life. Therefore, multiple ethical dilemmas and challenges will continue to occur in the future when having to ration healthcare
