Every night on Halloween, Spookley had to sit upstairs in the attic and watch through the window at all of the other kids who got to go out and trick-or-treat. Unfortunately, for Spookley, he couldn’t go out and trick-or-treat. Spookley was a ghost. He had never gone trick-or-treating in his entire life. This year, however, was different for Spookley. Spookley had come up with this idea one day when the kids who lived in the bottom half of the house had been getting their costumes ready. Spookley had mastered the art of walking around downstairs without being seen or heard by the humans. The little girl that lived in the house was going to be a fairy, and the boy was going to be Batman. As Spookley watched their mother get everything put together for the …show more content…
The boy said, “Mom, can we put the spider that jumps out at you right here on the porch?” “No, I don’t like that spider. It’s scary,” said the little girl. The two kids continued to argue until their father stopped them and said, “Okay! Here’s what we’re going to do. We will put the spider on the porch, but your sister gets to pick the next two decorations.” So, the boy put the spider on the porch, and the girl started digging through a box with decorations in it. She pulled out a smiling ghost, with a purple ribbon tied around it’s neck, and she hung it off of a tree branch. Spookley could practically feel the lightbulb come on over his head. He went back upstairs, and found an old white sheet that the boy used when he was a baby. Spookley draped it over his head, and looked in the mirror. You still couldn’t tell what he was supposed to be. So he got into the “Art Supplies” box, and obtained a bottle of black paint. He used an ancient tennis ball to put two black dots in place of eyes. He let it dry for a little bit, and then put it back on. He looked like a ghost! He was going to be able to
There’s a haunted house in Dover, Delaware called the Governor’s Mansion, where all of the Governors of Delaware have lived. If you go to the house yourself, you might see or experience a couple different ghosts. One evening, a guest to the house passed an old man dressed in old-fashioned clothes while going down the stairs for dinner. Once at the table the guest asked the owners who the person was. The curious owners asked for a description of the man. The description that the visitor sent chills down the spines of the owners, as it was an exact description of the owner’s father who had been dead for many years, and nobody else was in the house. The father had also been known for getting drunk a lot, so to this day he can still be seen drinking any liquor left out in the open. The mansion is also known for being a part of the Underground Railroad, so lots of slaves were always coming and going through the house at night. One night the house got busted and one of the runaway slaves ran and hid in a big tree in the yard. The slave was up there for a while and was already tired from his journey to the house.
Late autumn has arrived and with it comes the dark magic of Halloween--and, of course, the
The poem “Halloween” does such a great job at conveying that image of trick or treating. This poem takes into account the nostalgic feeling one gets when looking back at past memories such as this. Going door to door dressed in your favorite outfit. The use of imagery is so strong it is easy to be right there almost as if it were yesterday. The poet Mac Hammond writes “Kids come, beckoned by / Fingers of shadows on leaf-strewn lawns / To trick or treat” (15-17). This goes on to describe the pull and excitement a child gets when arriving at a house. The shadows of the owners Halloween decorations are cast onto the fall lawn, calling children to the front door. Not only does this give the reader an image of the fall weather, but of the Halloween decorations on someone’s house. Children tend to be drawn towards homes with decorations because it feels more welcoming. Therefore, this is where the beckoning feeling comes from. Not only does Hammond do a wonderful job by using imagery, but also the sound personified in this poem is

When they went outside no one or thing was there one of the office workers there at the plantation said that they heard something so they went to see what it was and they saw a group of rocking chairs rocking all at the same time. Another one of the workers there said that she saw multiple things move across the desk tops. One of the couple tour guides there was giving a tour when suddenly a candle stick flew across the room. Another one of the staff workers there reported hearing someone crying inside of the mansion. A staff worker Mitchell borne was working alone one night inside of the mansion when he felt someone touching his arm. One of the tour guides was walking around when they did not have a tour and saw a figure sitting upright in one of the beds. ("Ghosts tales”).
At the end of the story was an unexpected twist. Instead of a ghost in
When I learned that I would have to do my ethnographic report on what I did during Halloween, I was worried because I live in Turnpike and the most excitement that happens in turnpike is the sound of the garbage truck when it comes to pick up the Wednesday trash. Fortunately something did happen to me and I realized I would not have to write a boring paper of how I woke up and just stayed in my room the whole day. Well the day started off with me waking up and walking to the bathroom to take a shower, as soon as the turned the water on I realized I had left my shower and rather than turning off my shower I stayed in because the warmth of the hot water was too seductive for me to get out and get my towel. In the shower I had my usual thoughts about life, death, and comebacks to old arguments. Afterword I got out of my shower and reached for my toothbrush, which was located in a cupboard behind the toilet, but I grabbed at it too quickly and it fell in the toilet. I stood over my toilet for about five minutes just staring at my toothbrush in the toilet not believing what just happened, after that I started blaming myself for being too impatient. When I was done feeling sorry for myself I went into my room in search of another toothbrush but unluckily I couldn’t find one, so I had to go walk to the local store at around 7:30 in search of a toothbrush. While searching for a replacement toothbrush I realized that not that many people were in the store, I had always thought that stores were busiest in the morning and evening but apparently that’s not true. Once I got my new toothbrush I finished brushing, got dressed and went to catch the 11 to the Transit Center.
“Hey Mat since it’s halloween why don't we go to that scary maze everyone is talking about?” said Mark.
In this story we see many strange things taking place at a house on Harley Street in a town called Bly. We meet Mrs. Grose a housekeeper who is taking care of the house while the master is out of town. The governess, also the narrator and unnamed in this story, has more credentials than the housekeeper and is mainly in charge of caring for the children. Flora and Miles, two young children who are left in the care of these women until their uncle returns. Throughout the story the governess explains to Mrs. Grose that she is seeing two people staring at her. At first Mrs. Grose thinks what she is saying is ridiculous, but after careful examination she begins to agree with the governess. The governess explains in full detail what these people looked like and Mrs. Grose tells her it's the ghosts of Peter Quint (the previous butler) and Miss. Jessel (a previous maid).
The Nelly Butler hauntings is referred to as the first recorded ghost story in American history (LiBrizzi 5), and possibly the most exciting hauntings to date as there are still many unsolved mysteries. The apparition appeared on more than 30 separate occasions to over 100 witnesses in Sullivan, Maine, just over fifteen years after the American Revolution (5-6). Although the Nelly Butler apparition is one of the most convincing ghosts of all time, it was subject to suspicions of fraud. These claims turn out to be groundless as the evidence reveals the ghost to be genuine.
On a sunny day in a small neighborhood, a lady is trying to sell cosmetics. She can’t seem to get anyone to buy anything from her. After going from house to house in her neighborhood, she gets an idea to go to the mansion on the hill. When she reaches the mansion, she knocks on the door but gets no answer, so she let herself in. After going around the house for a bit, she ends up in what looks like the attic and finds Edward, from Edward Scissorhands, in the corner. When he sees her, he slowly walks towards her and comes from the shadows. When the saleslady, Peg, sees him, she gets frightened and tries to leave but Edward stops her. Ghoulish and awkward situations like this happen often in director Tim Burton’s work. His films
I can’t hold in my excitement as I run to the foyer. Mom looks at me worriedly, but I ignore her and throw open the door before the person standing behind it can knock. He looks at me with boredom lacing his expression, obviously expecting my weird gift to tell the future. I quickly hug him and grab his pale hand, pulling him outside. Tonight is Halloween, and the only time my pale blonde friend visits me. He’s my first and only friend, so I don’t mind that he doesn’t play with me the other three hundred sixty-something days in the year.
Within the picture before me, I see myself. I was dressed in all black; black dress shoes, black pants, a black button-down shirt with a sleek black tie, a black suit jacket, black gloves, a black ski mask, and a black fedora to top it all off. I am not entirely sure what I was supposed to be. Was I a mobster, a thief, or even a personification of the night? The date was Halloween and I was sitting on a bench in front of my house, waiting to scare or give out candy to anybody who approached the door. That year, we had not decorated our house as well as previous years; but we still had a few last minute ideas implemented o let people know that they were welcome to approach. There was a rotating red beacon flashing, jack-o-lantern cutouts over the porch light, and creepy music playing loudly. Despite the decorations, not one person came to our house and hardly anyone had decorated for the holiday along my street. I remember feeling disappointment when I realized that nobody was going to¬¬¬¬ come and anger as people walked by our house without a second glance.
Horror stories are a little different to ghost stories. In horror stories the key elements are surprise and torture. They have less involvement in supernatural beings and activities, sometimes they can but normally you find serial killers or a psychopath. However in ghost stories you find supernatural elements, they usually have the key features of a horror story but they always do not. F...

Of course I didn't ask my mom or dad. Nobody shall know. October 26 1998, haven’t recorded in a while. I've been paying attention to the thing in my house, but today changes everything I don’t think we have one I think we have many. Today I go in the basement to see what is down there. I open a door labeled, CONCEALMENT CHAMBER. I open it anyway I find bones and organs in jars. I almost threw up. I had to be stealthy leaving the basement, I was told not to be down there by my parents order. I went to check in the attic that had a built in step ladder. I went up there and there was dead animal carcases as my body stimulate my body. As I steadily leave the attic after almost throwing up in the attic which was a closer call than the basement. I go in my room to write it down and on my wall it says fury. I have no clue why this thing is angry. October 31, 1998 It's Halloween and I am not ready to have this ghost pop out of nowhere and kill me and put my organs in the basement. I take precautions. I don’t have the audacity to capture this ghost. So I just go out trick or treating. I don’t want to come back with the house in flames but I have to go trick or
