In class discussions, I make an effort to actively participate and share my ideas. When I participate, I always support my ideas with details and quotations directly from the novel. In addition, I lead partner essays and group discussions where I contribute many ideas. Due to my contributions, I believe that I deserve a B+ as a participation grade for marking period two. In class discussions, I continuously make an effort to contribute my thoughts and ideas. I try to support or dispute other students. I also discuss what my group and I wrote about for essays to gain insight on what others thought about the same topic. For me, it is easier to have an effective discussion with a smaller group or a partner. The discussion is usually much more focused, which is why I tend to do well on group essays. I definitely believe that I should participate more in class discussions, which I will work on. This causes a us to dig deeper into a passage or a quote and leads to a well- written thesis. I always bring our discussion back to why it is significant to the rest of the novel. Furthermore, I contribute by adding ideas on how we should answer the specific question and what details/ quotes we can add to support it. I always make sure to create a document online and type up all of our ideas that we formulated earlier, with supporting quotes. This causes us to write the essay much more smoothly, since we have our ideas right there. According to the article, "Neither a Wallflower Nor a Paris Geller Be" (Rebecca Schuman, Slate Magazine, 14 Oct 14), in order to be a successful student, class participation is the key aspect of college students. Schuman explains that the class participation is not a competition. In fact, the purpose of class involvement is to experiment new idea, share thought and discuss the subject matter. Although some students may feel uncomfortable to participate, Schuman recommended that students should take part in the class. We seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot at the start of this year. My first semester in this class was rough to say the least. I spent the entire first marking period trying to get caught up on the summer work for a class I didn't even want to take, but couldn't switch out of. The second marking period was better. What brought me down there were, quite frankly, the useless and unnecessary blog posts. There is no better textbook definition of "busywork". I can write you another email dedicated to this atrocity. Every blog post I made was complete nonsense and I'm sorry you had to read them. There was also the matter of the Frankenstein DIscussion grade. I got a failing grade on that assignment? An assignment that is majority participation? When I asked you about it, you said that my contributions to the conversation were not in-depth enough. I simply nodded, smiled, and went on my way. To myself, I thought, "That feedback was awful." Isn't the purpose of a discussion to share ideas? What were my contributions missing that warranted a failing grade? I still believe that I was one of the handful of students that contributed my genuine thoughts and ideas to the conversation. I can name names of students who just went to the analysis section of the Sparknotes and read from it verbatim to sound intelligent. I know this because I read the Sparknotes as well, but didn't use that information in the discussion unless it came up organically. I
As we approached the due date for the first essay assignment, the professor asked us to share our introduction paragraph aloud to the class. Since I barely knew any of my peers, I found the aspect of participation terrifying at first. However after becoming familiar with my surroundings and fellow mates, I felt at ease sharing what I my thoughts and receiving positive feedback. Writing is a process that takes multiple steps. Starting with brainstorming and finding a topic, then organizing the idea into an outline. Outlining is an important step as this is where you generally form your thesis statement. This tells the reader generally what your essay will be about. From that point forward forming a thesis statement as one of the first challenges in getting started helps in making a strong path to follow. This makes it easier to put your ideas from the outline into writing a rough draft. Once you have a first draft, proofread and edit to make a final, polished essay. Refreshing this process has helped me greatly in improving my personal writing.
Group therapy is considered one of the most resourceful forms of therapy. The benefits to group therapy can be both cost-effective and a great means of support (Corey, Corey & Corey, 2014). The process of experiencing ideas and viewpoints expressed by your peers allows group members to become more susceptible to the counseling procedure. Group counseling also helps individuals to feel a sense of belonging due to similar situations and experiences shared by the group. The sense of support from group members can be an excellent means towards developing long-lasting relationships and developing communication skills needed to move forward during the counseling phase. In this paper, I will discuss my experiences throughout the group-counseling phase.
In a team-oriented setting, everyone contributes to how well the group succeeds overall. You work with fellow members of the group to complete the work that needs to be done. Having the right people in the correct roles is an important factor in measuring the success of a team, where you are united with the other members to complete the main goals. Every group is made up of definite strengths and weaknesses. Our team's 3-5 major strengths necessary to work accordingly consist of Informer, Summarizer, Orienter, Piggy-Backer, and Encourager. One of our strengths as a team is that we get input from everyone involved. Every member of our team is a leader in some way. Part of being a good leader is knowing how important it is to receive the best ideas from each member of their team. We attend group meetings where we discuss any challenges, issues, and problems. At these meetings, we often exchange ideas or brainstorm new ones with each other and come up with the best and most creative team solutions as potential answers to those perceived problems.
From the beginning, where we were unfamiliar with each other and became a team, my team and I had started to learn each other name and getting to know each other. Throughout each meeting, we slowly start to feel more comfortable and open minded with each other. Not only are we getting familiar with each other, each meeting that was held we progress of becoming an effective team member, we learn our strengths and weaknesses of everyone. For whom have you raised your voice? I raise my voice for fellow students at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as a member of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Youth Council. Students experience the strengths as well as the weaknesses inside our schools on a daily basis, yet, there are no student members on the school board. We have presented the idea of student members on the school board, but until that happens, Youth Council members will continue to speak to board members about issues within our schools.

In order to gain some purpose while working in a group, I know it can be challenging task to do because every group member is required to agree and cooperate. I am privileged to become a part of a group and completed our task successfully. Our group consists of 5 members and we experienced the stages of group development along with which different roles being considered. In reflection on my learning experience in the group class, I have gained clarity on what sorts of competencies of facilitating group therapy, as well as in what areas social workers and students tend to feel most strong in my practice. Regarding my specific gains in competencies, I feel that I learned the most and was most likely to gain specific group facilitating competencies at the weekly class.
