Discussion and Critique Group work is utilized as a means for learning at all levels in educational systems. The underlying goal of group work in educational practice is to serve as an incentive for learning. This incentive prepares students to work as a group in a professional setting. This paper will examine the team’s organization by looking at how the group was formed and how duties were assigned. Next this paper will give an overview about the group’s leadership style and the different roles each group member chose. Furthermore, this paper will critique which elements of the group project worked and which elements challenged the group. Also, the paper will give insight into group work at an agency level; and each group member will …show more content…
It did not take much time for our team to get organized; a GROUPME group was created and we started communicating almost immediately through that app. We did not immediately decide on a population to focus on for this project because. We all had other assignments pressing that needed our full attention. Ideas were considered over GROUPME within a week of groups being assigned. Then we all agreed on one focus for our project after some discussion between all members of our team through the app. Tasks for each part of the project were voluntary. Each member of the team volunteered for a specific section of the assignment. Members also gave reasons behind their choice on most occasions, and the sections they chose usually had to do with their experience and knowledge about that specific task. For the most part, no one really seemed to mind which part they were going to complete for each phase of the project, and everyone was open to pitch in and help if one section ended up being more difficult or time consuming to …show more content…
For example, Amanda held significant experience with Head Start programming and could provide the group with leadership as to the gaps she saw in services and the potential ways a grant could meet the needs of Head Start families. Each member was empowered to be their own leader for the section but accepted constructive criticism from other members to fulfill the mutually agreed upon goal of the group to create a succinct paper meeting all the assignment requirements. All members demonstrated flexibility in roles of the group including organizing, uploading, formatting, critiquing, proofreading, clarifying and supporting other

There are many elements of a small group discussion each of which is important and play a key role. One of these elements is small group member roles and leadership which entails each member of the group taking on a specific role to benefit the group as well as gaining some form of leadership to help guide the group. The main roles that exist are; initiator-contributor role, information giver, orienter role, recorder role, and encourager and harmonizer roles. Each of these roles helps to keep the group and the discussion on the right path.

The group should come up with a list of tasks that need to be completed to lead to project completion. Assign tasks amongst the group, with this idea in mind: tasks are one thing that can be done by one person, not a major responsibility or series of tasks that complete a goal. The tasks should be completed by everyone, then put together into a whole to meet the goal.
In this paper, I will identify and describe a group I recently observed. The description will include information about the group process and an evaluation of the effectiveness of the leader’s style. I will also consider what I might do differently if leading the group and think about how I could apply what I learned from this observation into my own work.

How our group divided the work for our project was that we gave jobs to each person such as one would research information on the topic, one would write all down, and one would write the information on the power point that we did for our topic. Then when we were done researching hen we helped with the power point in keynote so that we all contributed. When we were doing research the source that we found
After completing the group task of preparing a presentation on, transferring individual facilitation skills into a group work setting I will critically reflect upon my own participation. I will evaluate my self-awareness while working in the group, as well as those around me. The way that I personally dealt with any issues that arose within the group and how that affected the group dynamics. I will also briefly discuss the roles in which each member of the group took and how role allocation affected, the group dynamics and the working relationships. Finally I will evaluate my work having discussed it with my fellow group members.
Individual Reflection of Group Challenge Group 2, Xin Zhang 1. Main role: Evidence Manager & Report Assistant As an evidence manager, I was in charge of taking care of the physical evidence, ensures the security and integrity of evidentiary items, and make sure we treat all the evidences proper and standard. During the challenge, I did my work properly at the first place when entered the scene, to be specific, I make the record of all details about the physical evidence and every step of action our team took to acquire the evidence data from target computer, which is to make sure the reliability of our evidence acquired and, to avoid any incident change to the data.
All the team members were well aware of their individual roles and their team’s role. As our team was multi-cultural, some arguments were already expected. GROUP STAGES Our group is composed of six students which were made in the first week itself, with a few additions and subtractions in the next week. By the second week our group was formed and proceeded to a second stage known as Storming (Tuckman, 1965).
Working in groups is challenging at times. Other times it is very rewarding. We are so focused on life that we do not take time to reflect on things as much as we should. Being in a Groups class has opened my eyes to a whole new world. I have begun to question, explore, and even understand how things work. I even get how they work sometimes. Not only is there a process involved in making individual decisions, process is involved in group decisions as well. This paper attempts give insight into my reflection of my group decision process.
Working in teams provides an opportunity for individuals to come together and establish a rapport towards others within a group. Teamwork is classified as people with different strengths and skills who work together to achieve a common goal. When a team works well, specific objectives are fulfilled and satisfied. Teamwork plays a crucial role in implementing and fulfilling a common goal in a team project. Each member plays a role and takes on different responsibilities combined together. In different stages of teamwork, conflicts and arguments may occur for as members have different standpoints which need to be harmonized within the team. The key to having an effective teamwork is to explore each member's unique abilities to motivate them.
A group can be define as ‘any number of people who (1) interact with one another; (2) are psychologically aware of one another and (3) perceive themselves to be a group’ (Mullins, L, 2007, p.299). Certain task can only be performed by combined effort of a group. Organisation can use groups to carry out projects, which will help to achieve its overall aim. However, for the group to be successful they must understand what is expected of them and have the right skill to complete the task. . (Mullins, L, 2006)
Working together with other people for an assignment can be a challenging task in some cases but luckily, I worked well with my group members. The decisions we made were anonymous although we paced ourselves individually when it came to completing our separate parts of the essay. As a group I believe that we connected well on an interpersonal level as all four of us were able to make alterations to any problem together . Furthermore, we did not give each other a chance to get angry at one another as we knew that this would only cause conflict that would disrupt our flow as a group. There was an equal divide in the amount of work that we all did; our contributions were fair and no one was lacking behind. In addition, my group members were great at keeping each other informed if one of us were not able to attend a group meeting; emails were sent out informing us what we missed and ideas that were formulated. Everyone in my group worked according to deadlines and in synchronization with each other; we did not have to nag anyone to complete work or wait on a member to complete their task.
Group work can be one of the most emotional times a student’s life. Students can face challenges working with people whose personalities they are unacquainted with. Perhaps because their past experiences with group work has led them to fear outcomes of upcoming group projects. It is possible that some students take on more work than others or that some students are often not heard. It is also possible that some students compete for prestige with other students or that some students take advantage of leadership roles. Whatever the problem is, assigned group work can conjure unpleasant musings for students. But what if students who were assigned into groups approached the idea of “two heads are better than one” and applied it to their assignment as they established group expectations. Not only will that inspire a change in perspective, but it will allow students to share different skill sets as they work together to reach a common goal. When group members share their knowledge and look at their different skill sets as an opportunity to thrive, the possibilities of achieving a successful project are endless. As the spark of one idea ignites into a group’s central mission, the opportunity for students to learn about team dynamics opens the doors for their abilities to grow. As our Service Learning Project officially comes to end, I realized that it was teamwork that had brought upon the successful completion of our project. Through my Service Learning experience, I will demonstrate the importance of effective group work.
