Reading is one of the most important skills to have in your life. Whether it is reading Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss or reading War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy, it benefits you. Everything you read causes you to think and use your brain. I personally am not the biggest fan of reading, but I do believe that it is a crucial skill needed to be successful. The world of reading is a very large and diverse. There are countless numbers of books in the world and several different genres of these books. As of right now I lean more towards fiction stories because it's a nice stress reliever from this middle school to high school transition. Fiction stories give readers a nice break from reality and really asks the mind to think outside of its boundaries. I often find myself spaced out in class when we are reading an article or another sort of nonfiction reading. When reading something regarding facts, I disconnect and lose interest. Although reading nonfiction is not one of my strongest areas, I do recognize its importance and is something I need to learn to love. …show more content…

The more you read, the easier it gets and the more you learn. Fiction reading takes your brain to a place of imagination. When reading a fantasy you have to stop thinking about reality. When you stumble upon a fire breathing dragon in your story, you don’t stop to question it and say “Dragons aren’t real.” You simply accept it and continue reading. This leads to having your imagination and creativity expand and strengthen. Having a strong imagination is a good skill and can come in handy later in life. When reading nonfiction however you have to pay attention to details and make sure you fully comprehend everything. Nonfiction requires critical thinking and it’s the best kind of exercising for the brain. You are also well informed of real life things happening or that happened in the world.
