Proposed Program Based on the problems associated with the current scheduling system and the research in the previous chapter, it is important that Central DeWitt High School consider the feelings and preferences of the students when creating the their schedules. Therefore, I am proposing that the administration and staff members consider allowing students to indicate who they would prefer to have as their teacher. This may require teachers to teach different courses, which would allow the administration to have more flexibility when creating the master schedule. This would not guarantee that each student would have each teacher that they have requested, but that their input is being considered when creating the master schedule. In the proposed plan, it will be important to educate the teachers’, students, parents, the counselors, and the administration. The plan will need to include how to collect the information, implement the plan, what will happen when a request could not be honored, which courses will need to be taught by more than one teacher and educating the staff, students, parents, the school board,

This article was written by a co-principal of an elementary school. The article explained how teachers could have better classroom management the use of technology. The co-principal and her teachers were looking for a consistent way to document behaviors of any kind. After researching and compiling information from other schools to ask about their classroom management procedures the school launched a technology based behavior program titled Kickboard. The school saw improvements in their school culture and began to use the program to track academics and behavior both. The program helped teachers establish consistent practices for effective classroom management.
Each year, more and more schools are switching from normal eight hour days, to block scheduling. There are many in favour of this, saying that having more time allows the students to absorb more information. Others believe that block scheduling isn’t such a great idea. The length of a block is too much time for some people to focus on one subject, some unused time ends up being wasted, and during the extra day that students have between classes, information that taught can be forgotten. These are but three reasons that some disapprove block scheduling.
For this project, I chose to select the option of making an artist’s book. I have always found the portrayal of written words and pictures quite fascinating. Some have each page carefully worked out with decorative motifs varying from page to page. Some have fancy covers or style of binding that screams “pick-me-up!” But the type of books that fascinate me the most are those that are dedicated to the art of photography. I proposed for this book to be created as a photographic reference towards life. I wanted to create something that had meaning. I wanted it to tell a story, appeal to the eye as well as the mind. I chose to entitle the book ‘ABC’s of Life.’ Yes, I know that sounds kind of cheeseball, but a fancy name wouldn't get the point across.
Creating a sense of urgency among those who need to implement the change is the first step discussed. Level Up sessions aligned with this step by allowing all members of the school to not only see a need for the change, but also feel how the change would directly benefit each person involved. All parties clearly saw a way to address their sense of urgency. Administration found the sessions an effective way to address the needs within the school, and supported the idea of not everyone needed all the sessions, the leadership team was able to address some the educational and instructional gaps of the faculty, and the faculty felt empowered to not only learn and share, the faculty found sessions to be a safe place to experience needs in a comfortable setting. I am writing this proposal in regards to the opportunity grant that is being put forth to the community fellows. It’s to my understanding that these grants are put aside if in the event that the fellow comes to face a financial burden while at their placement. If provided that the grant will be lend towards replacing my current wardrobe which consists of clothing attire that is inappropriate for my workplace. The funds would be used for the purpose of purchasing new dress shoes, sneakers, polo shirts, dress shirts, dress pants (including khaki pants), black socks, and shoe polisher. Having the ability to purchase a whole new wardrobe will benefit me in a significant way. The lessons contained in this unit of instruction were based upon Madeline Hunter’s Seven Steps of Lesson Plan Formatting. This lesson plan format is a proven effective means for delivering instruction. When designing lessons, the teacher needs to consider these seven elements in a certain order since each element is derived from and has a relationship to previous elements. It should be noted that a lesson plan does not equal one class period. Throughout the course of the lesson, it may take multiple sessions before the student is ready to independently practice the skills learned. Anticipated lesson duration is included with each lesson plan provided in this instructional unit. Madeline Hunter’s Seven Steps of Instruction includes stating the objectives, anticipatory set, teacher input, modeling, checking for understanding, guided practice, and independent practice (Hunter, 2004). For the purpose of this instructional unit, input and modeling have been condensed into a streamlined event; as well has, checking for understanding and guided practice. This form of lesson planning is preferred within the Elkin City Schools district and lends itself to the creation of engaging lessons.
Research can be defined as collecting data, information, and facts to gain knowledge. Research can be used as a tool to engage an efficient approach to one’s practice and provide them with effective data to make changes based on what he or she may have learned from the research. By conducting research, school administrators gain knowledge about not only their practice but their staff members, students, and district. Thus providing the administrator the abil-ity to make more effective decisions that can bring more success to the school or school district. When conducting research, one may decide to traditional research or action research. This paper will address the differences between action research and traditional research regarding their use in an educational environment, as well provide explanations and examples to delineate their uses in an education setting.
Starting with his first stage establishing a sense of urgency, I have reflected upon situations within my school and identified areas that should be changed such as the addition of study skills lessons for students new to a laptop program and online learning. Following that identification, I put together a team, which for Kotter, is creating the guiding coalition, and that team is the people that I knew could be dependable leaders and team players to support the change I wanted to implement. The third and fourth components to Kotter’s stages involve developing a vision and the steps to achieve that vision as well as a plan for sharing the vision with the community. I used these stages to clarify for others where we were heading and how we were going to get there. It was important to communicate that which teachers and students would be affected by the implementation of the lessons and the expected out come after they were introduced. The achievement of the next stage for making the change required the empowering of broad based action where I planned for providing my affected teachers and staff with professional development to help everyone to feel more at ease with the new expectation. For instance, I undertook research on how successful the implementation of the ‘Extended Learning Opportunities was. I carried out a survey in year 8 and year 10, analysed the results and made recommendations to the head teacher on how to make the Extended Learning Opportunities better working.
