These days technology has been advancing at a rapid pace. Scientists and engineers have come up with neat technology that will help the betterment of society. Many of these technological advancements are more for entertainment purposes only than the betterment of society but then again many can argue against that. One of those technological advancements is the Google Glasses; an alternative to carrying around an I-Pad and tablets of various sizes. Google started a project in April 2012 in one of their divisions called Google X. The project was called Project Glass and basically what the scientists and engineers did was solve one simple little problem. That problem was the purpose for the start of the project. They wanted to create a “wearable computer” that will allow people to explore and share the world from first person point of view. It also allows the user to experience a computer in first person. This will allow users to be on a computer and see the world and the things around them at the same time without having to look down at a screen which is the problem in today’s society. This was the start of a new technological innovation for both computers and glasses. This new technology can use many apps, Internet, and call people. The user can also video conference with other people on Google Glasses but the other person won’t be able to see the user’s face. Instead that person would see what the user is seeing. To begin, the structure of the Google Glasses is so that it is wearable and convenient for the user to wear at all times. The frame of the Glasses overall is very light and the bridge rest can be adjustable to the users comfort. Even though, Google Glasses allows us to browse the web, take a call, or send messages there has been a lot of controversy behind it. Google Glasses can also be seen as a health hazard on the roads. There has been several cases where people are being sent to court for having the device on while driving since it obscures part of the user’s vision. It can also cause problems with the eye since it is hard to look at a screen with one eye and not both. The Google Glasses is an amazing innovated technology. It is amazing how such a little piece of technology can do so much. It is also amazing how small the piece is and how many microchips fit in it. Google Glasses changes everything we know about making portable computers and will someday help renovate portable computers to be even smaller.
The human eye is an organ that allows a person to see, the sense of sight. The eye is composed of several parts including the cornea, lens, pupil, retina, optic nerve etc. There are two portions the eye is broken into, the front third is the anterior segment and the other two thirds is the posterior segment. The anterior segment includes the lens, cornea, iris, and ciliary body. The posterior segment of the eye essentially is the back portion of the eye. In detail, the posterior segment is the portion of the eye behind the lens that includes the retina, macula, optic nerve, choroid, and vitreous humor. My interest into becoming an optometrist had begun when I was in high school; it happened in an unconventional way. It was not through watching videos, or someone explaining to me what optometry was, but rather, seeing the power of it firsthand. There was a point in my life where I felt emotions that I was unable to comprehend at the time. Seeing a family member on an operating table was the most petrifying moment that I have gone through, especially when the person on the table was my father. My father had to get a chalazion removed from his right eyelid. The doctor told my family that my father would be susceptible to certain health risks because of his diabetes and the severity of his cyst. This procedure was the hardest thing I have had to deal with in my life because it made me feel helpless. Usually, when my dad needs help he always asks me, but this time I could not do anything. It is interesting to think that something so small had such a big affect on my life.
