There are several organizations that are found to help people around the world. One organization is the Good Shepherd of North America or the Sisters of Good Shepherd, although it did not just begin like that. The reason it was founded was to help people, especially those who do not have a place to stay or are struggling. Let us first start with the Sisters of Good Shepherd which was founded by Five Sisters, under the name of Our Lady Charity of the Good Shepherd in 1835. The reason the Sisters of Good Shepherd are important is because they are the reason Good Shepherd has established, and it also started there while it began in Louisville, Kentucky on December 1st of 1842. One story is from a woman named LeQuang - “ My family just came from Vietnam to resettle in Atlanta five days ago. We were heartened because Good Shepherd sent an outreach worker to come and help us. We must say that we are moved and thankful for their help. We consider this as a great consolation for those who just came to live in America. We are very thankful.” Just like LeQuang, the Good Shepherd of North America has helped many people. They locate in over 72 countries around the world. Some are in the Asia-Pacific Circle, North America, Latin America, and Europe. They work in a broad base of service, safe houses, schools, ministries, and training centers. There are also various ways you can join. You can join by starting a career with a Good Shepherd Agency, or you can become a full-time volunteer. You can also join the Associates or Companions. The Associates and Companions are groups that offer men and women to deepen their faith and to become closer to God. If you have a religious call, you can become a Good Shepherd Sister. If you’re interested in starting a career or volunteering, there is a process one must go through. Firstly, you must have the heart and compassion needed to help other people. You then need to give all your information to the organization, which is needed so that they are able to contact you. If you are over age during the ongoing process, you will need to go through a background check. This is necessary to make sure that those who join are safe and well-trusted people. You also must be committed to respect yourself and everyone else. They make sure that everyone feels comfortable and in a safe
Kevin C. Robbins (2006) says modern organizations can trace their origin to the philanthropists who feel a sense of moral or spiritual obligation to a cause (p.13). It is at the basis of human relationships and civilization to care for the needs of others, and has been for centuries. Nearly every religion emphasizes in some way the spiritual and moral responsibility of individuals to contribute to others. Ancient Jews saw charitable giving as essential and imperative (Robbins 2006). It was expected that they participate in almsgiving for the poor, widows, and orphans. The Roman Empire contributed to our modern view of philanthropy, also. They had a sense of obligation to civilization to formalize and regulate philanthropy (Robbins 2006, p.17) Christianity has also greatly influenced the motives of philanthropy worldwide by encouraging the practice of self-sacrifice for the good of others in need.

Four journalists named Helen Jones, Larry Andrews, Marcia Glaser, and Fred Myers thought it would be a good idea to create a nonprofit organization to help animals that have are treated cruelly by either abuse or when they are left alone. The Humane Society has been helping animals since November 24, 1954(2). Their mission since the beginning has been celebrating animals and confronting cruelty. There are a great number of things that the Humane Society has been doing for the animals, like saving them from people who want to harm them. The list of animals that the Humane Society helps is very long, because they don’t just help the household pets that you might have thought. The conditions of the Humane Society change due to the types of animals

Volunteering for a poverty program, policy group, or community service organization is an experience that will educate oneself and endure an involvement with those who may be in need of assistance for a period of time. When deciding where I wanted to do my volunteer experience for the class I wanted to make sure that I found experience that I would learn from. There were a variety of places that I could choose from that were in the area. For my experience I chose to volunteer at a salvation army in my hometown Springfield, Oh. This is an organizational group that provides services to those who are poor in a variety of ways. The Salvation Army is an organization that has several different branches in various locations. This branch helps in a variety of ways by having summer camps for children, social service programs that offer assistance with topics such as bills, food, clothing, furniture and a variety of other resources. America has supported families who lacked finance, education, shelter, food, and clothes as early as the 1800’s. After the civil war, many families received temporary assistance from congress, and religious institutions; such as the Freedman Bureau, and the Roman Catholic Church. As of today, the Catholic Charities USA is known for serving the nation as one of the best supporters for those with serious needs. Across the country, the CCUSA assist families and individuals in poverty through difficult and challenging setbacks too overwhelming for their economics, and emotions. The Catholic Charities desired goal as they work to decrease poverty; is to help people meet their full potentials, as well as assist them in becoming self-sufficient characters. (Catholic Charities USA, 2014) The Salvation Army is another organization which has a lengthy history for assisting people who lack essential needs due to setbacks. “The Salvation Army is committed to serving the whole body, soul, mind, and spirit.” (Salvation Army USA, 2014)
Every religion embodies a plethora of recognized rituals that are significant to its teachings. Customs exclusive to each religion can include acts such as: attending a weekly mass, praying five times a day at specified hours, celebrating the transition from childhood to manhood, along with endless others. The similarity shared amongst all religious rituals is that the follower of faith must believe whole-heartedly in what he/she is doing or saying. Dhikr, or the remembrance of God, is a ritual based in Islam that does not receive the attention it deserves from mainstream Muslims, and is highly under appreciated for its value (Robson 238). Its myriad versions allow it to be very personal, whereas other rituals are more structured, which is

World Prayr founded and built upon the principle that we are all full-time ministers and servants of God. This belief led to the formation of a mission team, who serve not only those they encounter daily but beyond. They reach out to those who need to know that a radical love has come to unchain them and set them free to dance.
Thousands of homeless animals are looking for forever homes in America. Volunteering is a great way to give to your community and socialize the animals at the shelters. Working with dogs and cats that have not had good starts in their lives helps them trust again. It helps animals get over the trauma they have had before they went to the shelter. Socializing makes the animal more adoptable and they are given a chance to get forever homes. Volunteer at your local humane society 's and help out the animals like I have worked with in shelters.
